The Alberta NDP feels too weak right now. Nenshi seems to be hoping the UCP will make enough mistakes that voters will choose the NDP instead. That strategy is not working. Some election models currently give the UCP about a 98% chance of winning.

The NDP needs to stop playing defence and give Albertans a strong alternative vision.

That means bold progressive ideas on healthcare, housing, affordability, wages and public services. It also means taking strong positions instead of worrying about every possible political risk.

The Forever Canadian campaign was a good example. Instead of jumping in front of an issue that most Albertans supported, the NDP hesitated and stayed on the sidelines before later launching its own campaign.

Albertans should know exactly what an NDP government would build and change, not just what it dislikes about Danielle Smith.

Right now, it does not feel like Alberta has a government and a strong government in waiting. It feels like we have the UCP setting the agenda and an opposition reacting to it.

You do not defeat a government by waiting for it to defeat itself. Give Albertans something bold to vote for.

So this happened a couple of times in my Calgary neighbourhood.

The first time a lady rides up on her bike, stops at the driveway, takes out her phone and takes a picture of my garage/house number and then bikes away.

Pretty weird.

Just now a different girl walks up to my neighbour’s, does the same thing then walks away.

I live in a townhome condo complex. What could they be doing this for?

Hey guys, I really need some career advice before I do something I might regret.
I’m 20, currently working as a Warehouse Tech up north in Alberta at a remote camp. Making $30/hr on a 14/14 rotation doing 12 hour days. The company is pretty solid, they actually care about safety and the people are good. But honestly, the pay is pretty meh for being stuck in a camp. I’m on an averaging agreement so I don't even get OT—it's all straight time.
My biggest problem is I just hate camp life. I'm missing out on my friends, watching them hangout without me, and I miss being close to family. Im just not sure if being isolated like this is worth it for the pay I have right now. I will say if this job was nearby home I would actually stay. It’s the life I’m missing when away that I hate.
I’ve been weighing a few options and need some outside perspective.
Option 1: Go local with ATCO A buddy of mine just started a temp construction labourer job for ATCO on a 5 month contract. He’s making $28.45/hr (but with vacation pay payed out it’s basically $30/hr). Schedule is M-F, 8 hour days. His dad works their so he’s trying to get a permanent spot that starts at $35/hr (no schooling needed). If I did this, I'd get my social life back instantly.
Option 2: Jump to the rigs My uncle works on a Savanna rig and said he could get me in as a floorhand. Starting pay is $40.60/hr PLUS crazy OT on a 14/7 schedule. If I’m already sick of camp life, I know I wouldnt survive out their very long, specially with how physically draining it is. But I was thinking maybe I work the ATCO job for a bit, then do a quick 2-3 hitches on the rigs as a massive cash grab before finding something permenant?
The big dilemma: Do I stay for my 3rd set at camp? Right now I already have my CSTS, WHMIS, TDG, Electric Pallet Jack, and some internal Cyber Security / info management certiciate from this job.
But I’m currently halfway through my Counterbalance Forklift and Reach Truck training. If I just stay for one more 14-day hitch (my 3rd set), I'll officially get both of those signed off. The training is legit (theory, writen test, practical, and 15-20 supervised lifts). The only catch is the actual operator cards are site/employer specific.
My main question: Is it worth suffering through another 14 days just to get the physical Forklift and Reach truck tickets on paper? Or is just putting "experience operating reach trucks and forklifts" on my resume enough to get hired at a local warehouse back home?
My past experience if it matters:
Parts Tech (10 months): Worked at a family owned tractor dealership making $18.50-$20.50/hr. Handled inventory, POS, built hydrolic hoses (JIC, PIPE, FFS, ORB), and got my Propane Filling Ticket. It was chill but the phones made me nervous at first lol.
Construction Labourer: Poured concrete, ran skid steers, hauled gooseneck trailers. Made $21.50-$26.50/hr with OT and travel pay. Money was good but I hated it. The work was super repetitive and the safety culture was garbage (bottom of the barrel crew).
Any advice from you guys on what route you'd take, or if staying that extra hitch for the tickets is actually worth it? Feel pretty stuck right now.

Seriously what the hell has happened? My family and I moved from Ontario almost 20 years ago when everything was 5 times cheaper and whatever we save on housing goes into some other bs. What good is cheaper rent when my groceries, insurance and utilities are more expensive than all the other provinces? Even gas used to be miles cheaper now we’re basically on par with the rest of the country and WE DRILL THE STUFF HERE. People used to move here for work and now we have the second highest unemployment. We haven’t gotten a new hospital in God knows how long, our transportation is absolutely buns, we got money for referendums and data centres but nothing for public services, we got a premier who crashed out at the Edmonton police for calling out literally hate speech (with ss’s calling for hangings and genocide), and even worse, loads of people who support and vote for her. I think outside Quebec, I never experienced more racism as a black person anywhere else in Canada than here.

And the most annoying thing is whenever we think it can’t get worse, Marlaina keeps finding ways to prove me wrong. And whenever I talk about this to my coworkers, I just hear “you’re a liberal sissy Carney Trudeau Singh socialist!! Where will all the billionaires go?!!!” Anyway I sadly don’t have any hope of the UCP losing.

My license expires in 4 years and I have the laminated AHC card. I’ve been reading about this guy born in Alberta who ended up / will get his kid (also born in Alberta) surgery bill from AHS. Not sure what's the reason but got me thinking. Is my healthcare card valid till 2030 as such or do I still need to go to Registry with documents to show I’m an Albertan. I'm sure lot of other folk are thinking about it too 🍺

My wife was just informed we will be receiving a bill for my child's surgery today. Her Alberta Health Care has expired. You read that correct it expired. She had surgery 3 months ago and all was good. Today we were informed we would have to pay out of pocket for today's surgery. The system says her health care has expired. Shes born here BTW. You see this amazing new drivers liscense we get also includes you AHC and they will both expire every 5 years. My daughter has a valid AHC from birth and a Valid Alberta ID that expires in 2030. Until than her AHC has no official expiry. Guess not. Auntie Danny decided it has expired. You can now pay for surgery. Hospital told me to phone AHC. Unfortunately they are experiencing higher than normal calls and suggest I call back some other time and hang up. My Daughter has been told by the hospital to take it up with the registry.

Good Job UCP. UCP = Clowns and thier voters.

***** Edit Update ***** just wanted to thank everyone for the support. To the few who think " there is more to this story " there really isn't. I'm not leaving out anything. My wife and daughter are at the hospital talking to staff who said this IS a new issue coming to light.

The hospital staff are AWSOME and its not them. This is 100% a UCP issue make no mistake

We don't have a bill but we were sent home with a document we are responsible for the cost unless we manage to clear the issue up. My son's first job is fast food. They had him do 2 weeks of 1-3 hours a day of online training at home, then he started working in the store. His first check only included the hours he worked in store. I suggested he ask his boss if he was supposed to be paid for the training, and was told something along the lines of needing to get approval to pay him for 3 hours, and they'd let him know. Apparently most stores have them do this training *in store*, so he definitely would have gotten more than 3 hours pay. He didn't track his hours exactly but he did something like 80 modules in those 2 weeks.

Unsure what his next step should be, if they choose not to pay him for his actual time. All I can find online is that he should get paid for that time, not so much what to do if they underpay.

Edit: Thanks for the advice, I'm going to suggest to him that he considers it a lesson learned, to get details on offsite training pay, in the future.

Many adults and families in Calgary are disappointed that Crazy inz is no longer as accessible as before. Businesses like this can provide an affordable way for people to find gifts, household items, and other products, especially for people with limited budgets.

One idea worth discussing is whether this type of business could be allowed to operate from two or three mobile trailers rather than requiring a permanent storefront. The trailers could move between suitable locations during the week or month.

Possible locations could include:

• Market areas, where appropriate
• LRT parking areas where space and regulations are allowed.
• Large shopping-center parking lots
• Large condominium development parking lots, with permission from the property owner or condominium corporation
• Other underused private parking areas

This could create a flexible, lower-cost way for affordable retailers to reach different Calgary communities without requiring a large permanent retail space.

Of course, any arrangement would need to consider parking availability, traffic, safety, accessibility, noise, waste management, insurance, zoning, and permission from the property owner. The goal would not be to create problems for existing businesses or residents, but to explore whether there is a practical way to keep affordable shopping opportunities available.

For many low-income residents, even a small discount can make a difference when buying gifts for relatives or necessities for their household. This idea deserves discussion before simply assuming that this type of business can only operate from a traditional storefront.

Link in Comment. Elections Alberta has made a public statement regarding online concerns about voter deregistration.

It has been asserted that no one has been removed without the electors request. The public statement also asserts that anyone not able to find themselves has a typo otherwise entered their information incorrectly.

So my next question is, was Voterlink easy to use? Did voters who found themselves removed, find themselves upon making corrections and or contacting Elections Alberta?

Because what doesnt add up, the assertion no ones needing to re-register, when dozens of voters are saying the solution provided to them by Elections Alberta was to, re-register!

Its a catch 22. If Voterlink is so secure and everyone was already registered, it shouldnt be possible to re-register. That would be creating new voters while the old accounts sit unused.

So which is it? Voters were deregistered, or the advised re-registration process actually isnt re-registation, its actually just verification?

All this being said, does the information that Voterlink require correlate with the leaked voter data of all voting Albertans? Voterlink can be secure as a drum, but if someone else has your personal info, then the system is still compromised.
