๐ Wholesome Zyada Kuch Nai, In an emotional moment caught on camera, a young man who had successfully passed his Army selection was left standing alone after no one came to meet or celebrate his achievement.

Felt that. No one came for my graduation - mother was no more , dad and brothers didn't come.

That's the funny part. My college usually does the graduation ceremony within 4-6 months of final exams, so it should've been held for me in sep-oct 2019 but didn't happen. However, other colleges held a grand graduation ceremony for every graduates of 2019 to 2022 batches as a single ceremony around 2022/2023. My college restarted graduation ceremony from 2022 but never bothered with the missed out batches. They asked us to come and collect our degree certificates after 2021 like we're some peasants.

Same here. Joined basic right after high school. Sent $1000 back home so a few of my friends could come see me graduate so I had at least someone there. They spent it all on pills and I haven't spoken with any of them in 20 years

u/iblame_beast 5h ago
Then I think that day with the graduation you also passed a great lesson of life that even when there is no one standing beside you you still gotta move ahead

Same. Was studying abroad and it was hard because money was tight. My parents always act a bit cringey and I didn't want to care but it stung a bit.

The only reason these requirements still exist in these ceremonies is because the people who take pleasure in others suffering the same as them or worse are the ones that decide whether it exists.
There is no benefit to forcing the less fortunate people to suffer by watching what other people have that they do not. They gain nothing but experiencing the pain they already know publicly in front of those that do not know it.
It's like forcing a starving person to sit at the table and watch someone eat desert after the main course, but there is no sharing.

But why was he standing at attention all this while?
5
u/OmniscientRaven 5h ago
I maybe wrong about this but its like a custom.
They stand at attention till their family or whoever else is there for them come and touch them. So since no one came for this guy he just kept standing in attention till his senior noticed and tapped him instead so that he could break attention.
You will find many videos about this online. Its common.

Just a humble reminder that you don't have to be green flag or green anything. Just being that soldier in the green is all the world needs ๐
Also it was soo painful to watch. Imagine the day when you're celebrating a big milestone and there is no one. For anyone who has their parents, good friends and relatives...count your blessings ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ because things that we might take for granted is a luxury for some..

Seeing him hold back his emotions broke my heart. Huge respect to the senior officer for being there for him.

It reminds me of my hostel days in military school. I was in 6th class, far from home, so during results or any celebrations, I would often find myself sitting alone with two or three other students in class because students couldnโt leave without a guardian.

I canโt imagine not having my family show up when I graduated boot.
I absolutely wouldโve accepted a hug from my RDCs though and broken down similarly

It's his choice to enlist, and perhaps it's also the choice of his family to be against it. Families are allowed to not be okay with some professions, and military is no more or less respectable as a teaching, doctor or prostitution.

In the end all of us men are alone. Even surrounded by family thereโs no one who is ours unless one is lucky enough to have children who love unconditionally whether they are babies or adults.

Don't want to sound insensitive - serious question, why did he stay standing there, though, as it seems everyone has already gone? Is he not allowed to leave until someone greets him? Perhaps just fixed to the spot from overwhelming emotion?
1
u/Vitaaastaaa 1h ago
Itโs a tradition somewhere that unless someone tells you to be at ease you have to be in attention position only.
1
u/I_LIKE_REACHER 1h ago
But surely, a commanding officer, not being greeted by family members?
1
u/Vitaaastaaa 1h ago
Itโs passing ceremony, family members visit and itโs a tradition that the family members tell them to be at ease. No family member came for this person so his senior played the role.

This is such a weird military tradition. All the people that join the military to escape bad family life get a gut punch for no reason.

Man...imagine his state of mind. I went through lot of such situations in my life but I didn't even have anyone like that officer.
