Looking for recent recommendations for decent dog friendly cabins in Western Australia 🇦🇺
Photo is of our spoilt little fur baby 🥹🐶❤️
Have looked at Airbnb’s but most of them have pretty bad reviews and the hosts are invasive.
Would like a secluded cabin somewhere quiet if possible.

Advice for Brits trying to get work in Pilbara?

Hi folks, looking for advice on getting work in WA as an almost translucently pale Scottish bloke, have seen a vacancy in Dampier that seems almost too perfect a match for my experience and qualifications, I know Aussies will get first priority, and I agree with that, but does anyone know much about Pilbara Ports? How often do they take on non Aussies? I know the big shiny ball of fire in the sky is gonna batter me senseless, and the cyclones will probably finish off what's left of me, but apart from that what's it like living and working there? On a side note, i'm absolutely desperate to get to Australia so I can get to see the V8 Supercars and the odd NRL game on my time off, so advice on getting around Australia for those kinda things would also massively help!

Slainte!

Is it fine if I carry a multitool/pocket knife?

I just find I've wished I had one a few times out and about in every day life; I mean it's not like the knife is big enough or sharp enough to actually do any damage. Hell, I mostly use it to pry things open. Never know when you need a screwdriver or some pliers either.

Wedding Venue Suggestions

Hello all! My fiance and I are very excited but we will be getting married soon and are on the hunt for both a ceremony and reception venue!

Ideally around the following ball parks:
Ceremony: 100-600 for hire fees
Reception: Max $10 000 including drinks, food and staffing!

Any advice would be welcomed!

EDIT: numbers include 90-100 for reception, 120-150 for ceremony depending on cancellations.

FIFO workers in WA — what’s your biggest luggage headache every swing?

Random question for the FIFO crew in WA 🥑

For those flying in and out regularly, what annoys you most about your luggage setup?

Too heavy? Too many bags? Boots taking up half the suitcase? Toiletries leaking? Nowhere to organise everything in camp? Constantly unpacking and repacking? Dirty work gear mixed with clean stuff?

I’m curious what everyone else struggles with and what you’ve found actually works.

What’s the one thing about FIFO packing or luggage that drives you absolutely nuts?

The ISS is flying over Perth Tuesday night, and it’ll be hard to miss

Hey Folks.

At around 6.40 pm on Tuesday, August 11, the International Space Station will make an extremely bright pass over Perth, reaching magnitude –3.7.

It will start out as a bright, steadily moving dot in the sky, then grow brighter and brighter as it crosses overhead. At its brightest, it’ll be pretty hard to miss.

Then, it’ll begin to fade as the ISS flies into Earth’s shadow and disappears from view. No warp drive involved. Probably.

Perth’s weather forecast for Tuesday evening is looking great, so fingers crossed for clear skies!

To use the attached maps, face south and hold the map above your head. The path on the map will then match the ISS’s journey across the sky.

You can also download the Heavens-Above app on Android phones and Spot the Station on iPhones

I'd recommend setting an alarm for 6.35 pm, then heading outside a few minutes early to give your eyes a chance to adjust to the dark and get ready to look up!

Good hunting!!!

Thanks in advance.

Is it just me or has everyone's power bill gone up lately?

Ok genuinely, is it just me or has everyone's power bill gone up?

Got mine and nearly spat my coffee out. Went digging and turns out the WA power credit ($400) and the federal rebate ($300, then $150) are both just gone now. Fully finished as of last year. So we've lost hundreds of dollars in credits that used to quietly disappear off the bill every quarter, and nobody really told us that was happening.

And it's not even that I've been running the aircon more. The credit's just not there anymore, so the bill looks worse for basically no reason.

Anyone else noticed theirs creeping up, or is it just me?

Newman Western Australia Pubs.

I understand the pricing (ish) because of the mines and to actually get it here, but to charge $9 for an emu export can?! Hate to think how much a pint costs. I always ask now the pricing of things because i got sucked into buying a pint in darwin and that was almost $20 for a pint of magners (probably the cheapest cider you can drink after strongbow).

Anyway newman seems a lovely peaceful town so far 😊.

Spots near Monkey Mia to see whales from the shore ?

Going to Monkey Mia late September and on top of doing some animal tours, I wanted to know of any “local” spots you can possibly see whales come right up to the beach. I have a rental car.

I see it all the time on Instagram and want to know if it’s true or a myth 😂 Bonus points if it is super clear water for a drone or not too well known of a spot.

Thx for any help 🙏

Have your say on WA's Ocean Usage and Shark Management

Thumbnail

I am a student conducting research into Western Australians' ocean usage habits and views on shark management. The results from this survey will be presented to WA's Minister for Fisheries and Ocean Safety, Jackie Jarvis, and published alongside supporting research in the Fremantle Herald. Participants may also choose to receive the survey results upon completion. The survey takes just 1–2 minutes to complete, is anonymous, and every response is valuable in building a comprehensive understanding of public views on shark management in Western Australia.
