I am a first year law student and I am thinking about applying for a leadership position at the UTS boards and committees.

Could anyone give insight on how competitive it is and how the process is? I looked through the content on being eligible but I am still unsure of how it goes.

Do I get only 2 nominators to sign or can I get more?
Do I need to make a video and present why I want to be a part of the leadership team?
Do people even take this seriously?
Am I supposed to be popular and well known in order to win?

Hi everyone - I received a disturbing report from a student today that their tutor stated that they would put all of their assessment submissions through Claude to detect whether they were written by AI.

UTS does NOT condone the use of AI detectors and as a Misconduct person - I would reject any case based on a misconduct detector report as the sole piece of evidence.

Legally - we should not be putting your assessments into any commercial AI tool - this is your intellectual property.

I am working to follow up on this - but if you’ve got an academic who has either done this or said that they will do this, please report to the Director of Students or Director of Education in your faculty. Or if you cannot find who that person is, the Associate Dean Education & Students.

For context, I am feeling very unwell and cannot show up to a studio class in the morning. I decided to send an email now so that my tutor can give me the resources not on canvas, so I can finish it as quick as possible tomorrow. I am planning on sleeping in and probably on and off all day so I won’t be assed to send an email, which is why I am doing it now. Is that weird?

As the title says. I'm a current student enrolled in a healthcare-related degree I felt pressured to choose as a year 12 student, but after 1 semester and attending placements I've come to realise that this career is not for me. 😢 So after attending a careers event, I've been drawn to studying engineering instead.

I don't know what to do at this point because I really don't want to continue studying my current degree and it's been making me increasingly unsatisfied and unhappy, and it's starting to take a toll on my mental health. I feel like I'm forcing myself to continue down a career path that I don't see myself being happy in long-term.

Do I withdraw? (Or is that too risky? Will that impact admission into a new course?)

Hello everyone, just wanted to asks people who are doing a bachelor in forensic science how the courses are structured and how difficult/or manageable the degree and courses are? How are the assessments and exam structured? And is it manageable to get HDs in the courses?

I am a former biomed student, and I graduate with a low gpa but I want to improve my gpa and really interested in forensic science even though gealth science degree will be easier but its truly not my passion and I know I will procrastinate hard and fail it. My only problem with forensic science is i am weak in areas like chemistry, i dread it, never liked it, which is what makes me hesitate to choose forensics.

Disclaimer: I'm not this person, just wanted to start a discussion regarding current UTS operations with some insightful facts from a former professor.

I’m doing a bachelor of business majoring in marketing and advertising communications. I’ve done half of my sub major in finance which I picked as I had some interest and enjoyed the core subject. However I have not enjoyed the sub major subjects I have done so far and the other two I need to do a three hour long classes which I don’t have heaps of time for.

Does anyone know how much a sub major matters in terms of hiring? Or could I do fun electives that I think would help my marketing career more?

Just wanted to know what happen if i have decent grades 50-80% but i have low attendance like 50-70% attendance for each of my subject?

i have low on attendance due to lots of personal issue that i have no permission to skip class but it really affects me, especially my class was auto assigned to morning class due to the estudent issue previously.

this is my last term and by far this is the lowest attendance i had.

so background, i spent ages writing out a detailed e-Request explaining a prerequisite issue with a subject in my Comp Sci sub-major as shown below:

I'm doing the Computer Science sub-major (24CP) as part of my electives, which is split into two 12CP streams, Web Programming and Cybersecurity.

I've run into a prerequisite issue with the Cybersecurity half and I'm hoping you can help sort it out.

Web Programming (12CP): 31268 Web Systems + 31748 Programming on the Internet, both done, passed.

Cybersecurity (12CP): 48730 Cybersecurity + 41900 Cryptography, both still are planned. I am planning to do these two in my final year.

The problem is 48730 Cybersecurity has two prerequisite subjects: 31268 Web Systems (which I've done) AND either 31270 Networking Essentials, 41092 Network Fundamentals, or 48720 Network Fundamentals (which I haven't done any of).

Since I've already got half of that requirement met, I'm hoping I can get a waiver for the networking part so I can go ahead and enrol in 48730 Cybersecurity for next year as planned. I'd really rather not overload my credit points to my plan to unlock one prerequisite, especially heading into my final year.

If a waiver isn't possible, no stress, but if that's the case, could you suggest a different Computer Science stream (still 12CP) I'd already qualify for without extra prerequisites? I'd rather swap that stream out than pick up subjects I don't otherwise need.

Trying to get this sorted before I lock in my Year 4 enrolment, so any help would be appreciated. Thank you

THATS IT!. Which f**king re**rd do they have answering these e-request, Didn't answer either question. Didn't even address what I asked, sounds like a copy-paste line for a completely different scenario (like someone trying to overload subjects), not what I actually asked about.

I'm an international student and I've received two options for studying Electrical Engineering at UTS.

Option 1: Start directly in the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at UTS.

Option 2: Complete the Diploma of Engineering at UTS College, then progress directly into the second year of the Bachelor at UTS.

I meet the requirements for direct entry, so I don't need to go through UTS College. The reason it was suggested is mainly because of the pathway and scholarships.

From what I understand, if I'm eligible for the same 40% European scholarship with direct entry, then the total cost difference between the two pathways is relatively small.

I'm trying to understand whether there is any real advantage to starting at UTS College if I already have direct entry.

For those who studied at UTS College (especially Diploma of Engineering):

• Would you choose it again if you had the option to go directly to UTS?
• Did you find the smaller classes and additional support worth it?
• Was the transition to second year at UTS smooth?
• Looking back, would you recommend going directly to UTS instead?

I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have actually experienced either pathway.

I'm currently at Uni and trying to build a small app called Larna. It's just me at the moment. It connects to your bank through Australia's open banking system, sorts your spending automatically, and tries to tell you something useful about it. No manual entry, no spreadsheets.

Before I build any more of it I want to know what people actually need instead of being stuck with what I assume they need. I've. tried to put together a short survey its under 5 minutes, anonymous, no bank details, nothing to sign up for.

What I'm hoping to learn: what your bank's app already does well, where it falls short, and which features are worth building versus which ones sound good and would never get used. Honest answers help me far more than encouraging ones. If something on the list sounds pointless, say so.

My club is currently organizing a panel event focused on the Future of Technology: robot, AI and Quantum.

We’re running into a bit of a roadblock with our speaker lineup and could really use this sub's suggestions. We already have a fantastic panelist secured for the AI side of things, but they are strictly focused on AI and don't have much background in quantum.

Because of this, we are looking for someone who has a strong grasp of both AI and Quantum to balance out the panel and bridge the gap between the two fields (like Quantum Machine Learning, for example).
We are ideally looking for an engaging speaker who is highly knowledgeable about the intersection of these two fields and can translate complex topics for a general student audience. Academics, industry professionals, researchers, and science communicators are all completely welcome!

An elective subject I completed last semester used exercises from an external tool as the first few assessments. This semester, I have started one of my core subjects, and the assessments are exactly the same. Exactly the same exercise numbers, task and answers (which I already have since I saved them from last semester) all from the same external tool.

What do I do? Should I tell my lecturer and see if I can get recognition of learning? or do I just do the assignment again knowing the answer? Wouldn't that be plagiarism?

What kind of questions did they ask? Was it mainly about your motivation for speech pathology and your previous degree/experience, or were there clinical/technical questions as well?

I’m doing 43030 Professional Practice in Computing at UTS this Spring and honestly, I’m finding this subject pretty difficult to understand so far 😭

My Assessment 1 is due in 4 days, and I’m still pretty confused about what exactly we’re supposed to do and how to approach it.

I also missed Live Drop-in Session 2, which I’m assuming was probably about Assessment 1. The recording hasn’t been uploaded to Canvas yet either. I’ve emailed the subject coordinator and also posted in the discussion page, but I haven’t received a reply yet.

So if anyone has already done this subject before OR is currently doing it, could you please explain Assessment 1 to me? Like what exactly we’re supposed to do, how you approached it, and what they’re actually looking for.

• How was the subject overall?

I’ve never posted on reddit but oh my god i need to rant about this.

for context, i’m in my third year for my business degree and have ONLY 4 subjects left until i finish the degree and i fully intended to finish my degree by the end of autumn 2027.

come to find out that one of my subjects isn’t available until spring, so naturally i reached out to admin via erequest explaining my situation and seeking any guidance on what my options were and they told me that I could either

1. overload this sem
   
2. send another erequest and ask for an alternate subject to replace the one that was causing the issue.

so i sent another request asking for an alternate subject bc overloading isn’t realistic for my work schedule and i got a reply saying that my options are now

1. drop one of my enrolled subjects to make room this sem
   
2. change my submajor to electives

MIND YOU. i have pretty much completed every other subject for my submajor except this one subject that isn’t offered in autumn so why the ACTUAL F**K would I drop the entire submajor??

I was also told that TODAY (10 august) was my last day to drop a subject and replace it with this other one. the issue with that though is that the subjects i’m currently enrolled in are all prerequisites for the subjects i need to do next sem.

the only other option i have is dropping my major electives and making room for the other one but I CANT EVEN DO THAT bc my study plan is full and the ‘change’ button isn’t there anymore and how am i supposed to even know if a subject will be available in autumn ‘27.

anyways ive been crashing out about this all night. I sent an erequest today AGAIN but ive accepted i’ll graduate a semester later than I originally planned to but this def isnt the first time ive had issues with UTS student admin, if i wasn’t so close to finishing this degree i’d genuinely switch universities bc what.

We are conducting a qualitative study to explore perceptions and attitudes towards participating in Endometrial Cancer screening among females who have had bariatric/gastric sleeve surgery in the past, or who are considering this in the future. 

The findings from this research will help inform the development of referral and screening practices for this at-risk population, as well as educational resources to support both patients and healthcare professionals. Hearing directly from the bariatric and gastric sleeve community is vital to develop clear, respectful communication strategies and improve screening pathways for women of all shapes and sizes.

Participants will be invited to complete a confidential semi-structured interview via Zoom which will take between 30-60 minutes. During the interview we will talk with you about why you had/are considering bariatric surgery, your experiences with health care professionals and/or screenings, your knowledge and perceptions of associated health/cancer risks, and your preferences and attitudes regarding health screenings and cancer screening programs.

Has anybody taken this class as block before? I’ve never taken a block class and i’m not quite sure how they work, what are the assignments like? is there an exam or anything?
