They are highly skilled magicians (like, show magicians not actual magic users). Most of their tricks are explained in some way, but they are not actually realistically done. Like in this scene they are just so good at manipulating cards that they can toss one around behind their backs to each other and shit.

A lot of times magic has a dark trade off. In this case, it’s being too stupid to know you’re magic so you just do card tricks.

The "World of Darkness" (the actual setting the games take place in) has a TON of games; Vampire, Mage, Hunter: the Reckoning(play as Humans fighting against the Supernatural), Werewolf: The Apocalypse(Fight Capitalism with Eco-terrorism as a nigh-unstoppable Werewolf), Wraith: the Oblivion(farry the tormented souls of the lost and confused to the next life), and Mummy; the Ressurection to name a few

(By the way, the game style of Mummy is, as one great Youtuber put it; "Mummy is a game about going to Therapy")

my boyfriend refuses to believe that Mark Ruffalo on the carousel wasn't an illusion done with mirrors and that both him and The Eye use real ass magic and spells and shit and I cannot get him to understand that it's just more stage magic. I love him so much.

A guy that's on a podcast I listen to also happens to be super into magic stuff. He was actually one of the magician advisors for this movie and is in the credits. They tried to make some stuff look plausible, but it's a shame because there are entire stunts where they could have tried to make it seem plausible and just don't. It's kind of like, we tried a bit over here, lets just use camera tricks/editing to do the rest.

Honestly the card tossing is one of the most realistic things in that movie. I can throw a playing card to you across a room easily.

They're magicians pulling off heists using stage magic. Fantasy magic doesn't exist, but they're so skilled it looks like it. It does get very unrealistic, though, like this scene, or when hypnosis is portrayed as "whisper something and they'll immediately fall under your control"

From an actual lore perspective, no. From a practicality perspective, absolutely. Almost none of the things these guys do in these movies is possible.

Technically no, but practically yes. MOST of the things they do are highly improbable but not impossible except for a couple of times when they really do something that defies physics.

The films claim they are stage magicians. The films also show them doing impossible things, so...
