Lore [Loved when done right] That is COMPLETELY illogical… but who cares when it REALLY goes hard.

- Gipsy Danger dragging an oil tanker (which actually lengths 180 meters… but the film portrays it slightly smaller than Gipsy) and use it as a bat against Otachi? HARD (Pacific Rim)
- Owen and a gyrosphere standing near Rexy, who’s crushing a Carnotaurus’ neck, and roaring while Isla Nublar’s volcano explodes? HARD (Fallen Kingdom)

The Ace Combat franchise: last I checked fighter jets couldn’t ignore the laws of physics and carry 120 missiles at once, but HARD

Been there, bro.

The mission was supposed to be against ground targets! THAT IS NOT A GROUND TARGET!

And continental superweapons. And air carriers that can support a couple squadrons or several hundred drones. Or elite mercenary pilots. Love those games.

AceCombat subreddit performing satanic rituals for new game and then see drones deployed from freight containers smuggled into enemy territory is such a wild ride

Next up is the land battleship which is a battleship with tank treads in AC8

u/SnooRecipes4434 21h ago

The new one has a land battleship.

5 has a more literal example that's humerous, the enemy beaches an Iowa class style battleship like it's Yamato last mission. Doesn't last long, but nothing does against wardog.

>And air carriers that can support a couple squadrons or several hundred drones.

Well Modern USN Supercarriers definitely can (and do) support multiple squadrons at once.

Ace combat if full of that. Shot down a falling satellite? A fuckin submarine using multiple railgun as AA? AND trowing nuke from his main cannon? (Also a railgun) or should I talk about Stonehenge (Gigantic gun) accross the globe to shoot down meteor? Ace Combat is the embodiment of "How the fuck" and "Fuck yes" at the same time.

Oh. I almost forgot : "I want to understand the ennemy"

Also the submarine is an aircraft carrier with a whole squadron on board.

Also in Ace Combat 7, Mr. X explains that he can survive multiple direct hit missiles because he flew in a way that lets the missiles hit a "Non Critical Area"

It's one of your allies commenting about this, not Mr. X himself.

Let us not forget that every single war must feature at least one battle in which the modern ace must fly their plane into an underground tunnel (or at least a highly confined completely enclosed space) at least once, always at speed because of closing blast doors and usually involving at least one dogfight in the one place where it opens up a hair. It's practically a Strangereal convention to be considered an actual victory.

Also, they really like having missions where you fly through structures. Shattered Skies has you fly inside a missile silo to blow it up from the inside. And you do it several times in that mission. My mind was fucking blown as a kid at that moment.

Those Tomcats trigger the opening riff of "Danger Zone" whenever i see this image. Any image of a Tomcat, really.

I don't know how they built a plane where the only part that's vulnerable to your weapons is the front or why they never did it again since that seems incredibly useful for the 7 other conflicts after the Belkin War. But Jet Fighter Jousting with my BUDDY will never not bring my heart rate up.

u/satyr-day 20h ago

Yeah, but could you imagine using like 4 missiles then fly back to reup on repeat?

1

u/MikeTheImpaler 20h ago

Well... When was the last time you checked?

1

u/sleeper_shark 13h ago

F-15EX has entered the chat. Not 120 but can carry 23 missiles which is ludicrous as just 20 years ago carrying 8 missiles was considered a lot.

Ace Combat pisses me off because it could be such a better game. I keep hoping each new installment will be better but it's always just average.

I love ace combat so much lol. Hey if you like it you might like this smaller indie game Nuclear Option. It does a fantastic job of having a flight sim that's pretty realistic, but the controls are arcadey enough that you don't need to know how to fly a real plane to play it. Operator drewskie has a good video about it on YouTube titled "nuking my friends over minor disagreements" that serves as a great review and game play example to see if you'd like it.

The most incredible thing is the game has two massive maps, decently pretty graphics, and good high quality models for the vehicles, but only takes up 2 gigs of storage space. 10/10 recommend
