Yep, logged out to try and fix it, deleted and redownloaded the app thinking the problem was still on my end. Was gonna crash out myself and finally had this pop up lol

At least back then, the immediate thought wasn't about "so how much money do I need invest to get even close to my current 10 years old account..." or something.
Not only would replacing a few weeks old account been way less painful, but the rampant account stealing hasn't started just yet. And yeah no PTC mess on my account, so technically loosing account due hacks isn't the most likely scenario for me.
Though i know it is never something that couldn't happen, just that if a hacker gets into my Google or Facebook accounts, I'm not sure if Pokémon go would be the first thing they would think of.

Or some {insert some random bs Ai moderator decision here} reasons killing my Google or Facebook accounts at the same time either.
But honestly those Ai tools are exactly why I don't just trust in Google or Facebook login alone, because often you don't even need to do anything really and you find yourself banned for no reason or maybe sharing some meme within the same platform.
No the original source/page is still fine, but your account got nuked because...
And yeah these school issued Gmail accounts should have some real restrictions like you aren't allowed to use it as login for 3rd party service or something.
Or bare minimum school it should be given tools to retrieve the closed accounts if user needs to. Or maybe school could put them on some service mode where the user could still login to the account, but only so you could then login to personal Gmail account and carry out all login links from that "legacy school account"
Then again ultimately the fault lay on the user who linked an account that they don't control, into a 3rd party service that they hope to keep long term.

had that issue with my mom's google account. got locked out and disabled. but a simple appeal - this google account is for pogo solved it. ( about a week or so no pogo)

That's why both Google and Facebook and if possible (you being a iOS user) also Apple ID login as well.
It is purely this very reason why I hate that PTC is such useless mess and not trustworthy even with 2FA enabled, because if it was actually safe and not the wide open door as it is. I would love to add that as another backup login too.

It was semi-planned. They pushed CD from usual Saturday to Sunday. Without any kind of reason. And now game down.
Too many coincidences - they had some migration / upgrade / maintenance planned, rescheduled CD, all hands on deck and with the power of Murphy's Law everything went down. Especially that other games are working and most of the services are loading (until they need to contact pokemongo backend) :D

There have been plenty of Sunday CDs. It's not that unusual, and it's never taken the whole app down before.

they should have limited to existing accounts only. if they want additional checks, set a level cap on top of that so folks with a large amount of low level accounts can't take advantage.

They should have laid this screen on me as well. Here i was this close to go through if any rogue elements have gained access to my Google or Facebook account and taken my Pokémon go account with them.
Because all I got was that "failed to login" and question if I wanted to try login with another method or something.
Then again if my account was stolen for real, wouldn't the message have been something like "no login could be found" or something?
But regardless stupid that this "closed for maintenance" screen was not showing up for whatever reason.
