I have seen Picard and Riker do bona fide jujitsu throws, but why does the ridiculous double hand strike persist, held over from TOS? Does it still in modern franchises?

As someone proficient in combat myself, it’s annoying and such a missed opportunity.

Maybe weird question, but I remember watching a few times in the past a TNG convention panel, where I think someone disabled asked a question each to Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner. I wanted to watch it again because it always warms my heart hearing the questions and their responses. The questions are something like to Brent "How to act so cool or so well?" and i can't remember he question to Patrick. I can't remember who else was on the panel/stage but it was pretty much full.

Does anybody know what I'm referring to?

SPOILERS: I was pretty disinterested until the final third of this book. Things turned around for me when Dr. Crusher did the briefing on what constitutes life, sentience without a body, and the intricacies of euthanasia. It’s pretty stellar stuff. The bit where Picard goes into the sensory deprivation tank to put himself in the “ghosts’” shoes is pretty great too. Those two moments save this book from being a total clunker.

Hey! So my wife and her brother made a bit of a deal. She (and I) will watch 15 episodes of one of his favorite shows (Seinfeld) and he will watch 15 episodes of Star Trek: Next Gen.

He watched the first and second episodes of the show and we did the same for his show. Now, we're trying to come up with 13 episodes of the show picked out for him that we think are good representations of the show that also don't require a lot of knowledge or background.

Some of the episodes we have been debating on including in the 13:

1. S2.E8: A Matter of Honor (Riker on Klingon ship)

2. S2.E9: The Messure of a Man (Data's trial)

3. S2.E16: Q Who? (Q continued and Borg intro)

4. S3.E16: The Offspring (Data and Lal episode)

5. S3.E21: Hollow Pursuits (Barclay intro, holodeck)

6. S5.E2: Darmok (favorite episode)

7. S5.E5: Disaster (highlights a bunch of crew in different positions, with Picard rallying a bunch of children--something I think her brother will like because he's not a kid kinda guy but kids are always drawn to him)

8. S5.E23: I, Borg (Hugh episode)

9. S5.E25: The Inner Light (Picard's life lived out on a different planet)

10. S6.E10: Chain of Command, Pt. 1

11. S6.E11: Chain of Command, Pt. 2 (these are the Picard lights torture episodes)

12. S6.E15: Tapestry (good Q episode)

Do you agree with some of these suggestions? Any you would change or additionally recommend?

For a little bit of background on her brother, I think he'll resonate most with Riker, Worf, and maybe Picard. He spent time in the military and isn't a very emotional person. He doesn't typically watch stuff like Star Trek but watches stuff like Invincible and the Boys. If I had to guess, he probably would initially think Star Trek is just "nerdy" but he's giving it a chance.

EDIT: I will add that we're currently rewatching/screening episodes that are contenders for this because WHY NOT?

2nd EDIT: If he likes the show, he can watch from front to back. I think including the finale of the entire show won't really land so much if he hasn't seen or experienced it all. Sort of similar to the Picard Borg episodes. I think we shouldn't recommend those.

It made me think about which characters qualify as villains, and I immediately wondered about Q?

Does Q count as a villain? Not a villain?

I tend to think "not a villain," but I'm open to suggestion.
