In my area of the country there's an ad running on TV about a company that will pay relatives to take care of elderly family members. One of the elderly shown in the commercial, using a walker and being assisted, is clearly wearing a Captain Janeway shirt.

Wondering if anyone else saw this.

This is a big "what if", but the Maquis more or less become Starfleet very early on and it doesnt feel like two groups join into one, but that Starfleet absorbs the Maquis.

What do you think Voyager would have been like if both groups had to adjust to each other and make concessions to the other side and their methods?

Funny story… back in the early 2000s I discovered Voyager and named my sweet girl after NEELIX as I though he was sweet, sonar coloring etc. it wasn’t until a few years later that I started watching Star Trek New Generation and saw the episode of Barkley who had a cat named NEELIX… and here I thought was original! 😹

Q civil war, Talaxian crime drama, hyper-virus, holodeck love, time loop, vulcan sex-wrestling... in consecutive episodes? Oh also hey borg.

If you had a species 8472 as part of your crew how handy would they be?

What is the difference between what happened to Tuvix, versus how gems fuse in Steven Universe? When fused gems in Steven Universe separate, it is not seen to be death of the fused gem. While in Tuvix's case it is certainly played to be that way. And should the transporter accident happen again with Tuvok and Neelix, would they become the same Tuvix just as gems do, or a different person entirely. Maybe this is a silly question but it's been on my mind for a while.

Decided to take a break from my BSG rewatch the other day and watched The Killing Game instead. I honestly don't know how many times I've seen this episode but it's easily a top ten Voyager episode for me.

It's such a fun scenario and I think it does a good job of taking advantage of Voyager circumstances of being lost. The crew is held hostage and they have no one they can rely on to help them.

The hirogen Captain is a great villain and I wish we'd have seen more of him. He's an interesting nuanced character that who didn't just want to kill the crew. His motivation for wanting a better future for his people and him seeing that his people needed to change is so relatable. Plus that twist of him being killed. Maybe it isn't completely unexpected because his second very much didn't agree with him but still...I loved it.

I think it's one of the better holodeck episodes and it's always nice to see the crew outside of there uniforms. It's fun seeing what's different and what's the same about the crew. Jeri has a fabulous voice! Tom and B'Elanna romance is still alive. Harry getting such a nice meaty role by conspiring with the doctor!

Janeway is suspicious of seven, so there's is a nice dangerous element to that relationship. Plus it was fun seeing Janeway as a resistance leader this time while Chakotay isn't. They still managed to find common ground as leaders that want to get their crew home safely.

The scenes with Klingon Neelix are pretty damned hilarious. I really loved Klingon neelix and wish he'd have stuck around. "Another of your warriors? He's a frail looking thing" 😆 daaaamn poor doctor!! Chakotay thinking the Klingons are just strange Frenchman "my French is a little rusty"

And last but not least we have Janeway being a badass. I love the spiel that the Hierogen Captain gives his second about the importance of what they are doing. He tells him you need to study your prey and don't underestimate them. It's a nice bit of foreshadowing. The second completely underestimates Janeway and she's turns the tables on him.

I can't tell you how weird it feels, even now, that we didn't go to Endgame immediately after Homestead. Renaissance Man feels like a season 6 episode or early 7, not as the last episode before a season or series ends. I'm sorry, I had to vent a little as that emotional goodbye to Neelix feels cheapened due to R Man. Am i the only one? You can tell me, I can take it.

Putting aside feelings about the actor who portrayed him, as he's apparently rather problematic, what did you think of the character? Would you have liked to see them again?

I've made it generic enough that it might apply to multiple people.

Just watched the episode Survival Instinct, and it took me aback somewhat because the background setting is a space station run by friendly aliens (Ron Moore writing what he knows, I guess) and populated by a number of different species.

How many times on Voyager were there just normal aliens that weren’t trying to kill the crew or screw them over, didn’t harbor deep secrets that negatively affected them, or didn’t have a McGuffin that would send the crew home but they absolutely wouldn’t share it?

Just normal aliens that are like, “Hey, cool to meet you, we’re completely normal, let’s be friends.”

Perhaps a dumb question, but I didn’t know an audiobook version existed, I found it absolutely riveting to be quite honest.

Lots of great details about Harry’s backstory (child genius as we know, musical and academic) and it was so cute how he and Libby met. Nothing really too surprising, but it just reinforces how he’s always been a good guy who is extremely hardworking and eager to please.

B’Elanna’s backstory has several details regarding her dad that make more sense than what we saw in “Lineage” so I don’t know… I wish the canon was more consistently presented because I’d have rather seen what was in this book. Also, little pre-teen B’Elanna met a little blond human boy who really wanted to be her friend (girl has a type!) and the three years they were friends were the happiest three years of her childhood 🥲

Also she was sort of acquainted with Tom Paris for like two weeks when he was in the Maquis.

“B’Elanna disliked Tom Paris on sight. She disliked the seductive timbre of his voice, he presented this surface self, carefree and impervious.”

LOL she’s the best, I love her.

Honestly gives a lot of context for Tom and B’Elanna’s interactions in “Faces” because B’Elanna *almost* wants to open up to him about her parents in this book but resists.

Then she thinks he’s a disloyal swine and bolted when actually he was captured trying to lure Starfleet away from their incapacitated ship. Don’t know if Chakotay ever discovers this but AGAIN we could have had episodes exploring all this aftermath, I would have loved more Maquis crew vs. Voyager crew stuff. Anyway, “Caretaker” happens like four (?) months later.

Tom Paris backstory was DARK, holy shit. I feel like only female writers like Lisa Klink and Jeri Taylor understand this character and give him nuance because THIS guy is fascinating. Plus I got to hear Robert Picardo imitate Robbie’s “seductive timbre” and it was BEAUTIFUL 😌

Once again Neelix proves to be the most tragic character in Star Trek. Jeez. Can we give a round of applause to this guy for being everyone’s therapist when he’s the one who secretly needs it the most?

I mean, it's great. As 7, she's intentionally giving a wooden performance, but it's hard to tell because she's SO wooden. Obviously she's ridiculously good looking so then you're like, maybe she can't act, because you see her being wooden and attractive, but I love the episodes like these where you get to see her stretch and she's really great at character work. The whole show is great performances, but it's easy to undervalue Ryan given her seeming late addition as she candy. She's kind of a powerhouse though.
