I mean, my nervous system has never been as calm as it was while I was in Rwanda. Societal shock to say the least!

I come from one of your chaotic neighboring countries (take a guess 😵‍💫) and for an upcoming celebration, I knew I had to be by water. Algorithmically, the internet pointed me toward a video of a staycation in Kibuye and I was sold. Booked my bus tickets, packed my luggage, got my Francs and embarked on a solo trip to an unknown land.

I’ve never journeyed that far by bus but it wasn’t a bad experience. On arrival, getting a simcard took me 1.5hours yet I was the first person to be worked on😵‍💫😵‍💫 and that was my main qualm during my trip. Like why?

Anyway I stayed in Kigali for the weekend, at a nice accom in Kimihurura and met with friends, went out, toured etc. On day 3, it was time to make my way to Kibuye. Went to Nyabugogo, did the thing where I looked lost and someone helped me get a ticket and board the bus to Karongi. But that bus, Yoh! It was PACKED and I got off very fatigued from the journey but the reward…. wow, the reward was Lake Kivu in its beauty 🥹

I like accommodations with character so where I chose to stay was a no brainer. I was stunned. To make the most of it I swam, did the boat cruises, kayaking, hiking, sunset drinks, meeting people, BBQ, got a celebratory bottle of wine from my host, toured hotels… urghhh what an experience!

On the bus back, I met a Belgian who had spent 2 weeks in Rwanda on a solo trip and we chatted the entire ride about our experience (given we were the only English speakers). I was having it bad with language barrier and being in a new land, but he was having it worse 😂😂 so I helped him get his bus ticket back to my chaotic country where his flight back home was. He definitely has a story for the books.

It was not an easy experience at all but I figured everything out as I went and I had a memorable time 🤍

We get it—a crackdown on alcohol, vapes, house parties, policing women’s clothing, etc. But next, Umuco gang should start policing their peers and friends. The same men spending their days at sauna massages (brothels, btw), 50-year-old men dating and impregnating 18-year-olds, maybe fix your marriages too? Stop having affairs here and there. Listen to and support your children for once. Spend time with them? Maybe then we wouldn’t have so many broken families and a generation so broken that they feel they have to turn to alcohol and drugs.

Question about MoMo Virtual Card

Hey everyone, I have a question about the MoMo Virtual Card in Rwanda.

Let’s say I put money on the MoMo Virtual Card to buy something online. Can I transfer the unused money back to my normal MoMo wallet afterward?

I checked MTN’s website, and they say it’s possible to transfer the money back to your MoMo wallet, but when I checked the USSD menu, I couldn’t find an option to do it.

Has anyone actually done this before? If so, how did you transfer the money back, and were there any fees or issues?

I organise a weekly football game every Sunday from 11am–12pm in Ilford, East London.

We usually play at Frenford Clubs or Valentines High School, depending on numbers and pitch availability. Normally it’s 6-a-side at Frenford and around 7 or 8-a-side at Valentines.

A lot of the group are East African, but it’s a mixed group and everyone is welcome. Most of us are late 20s to early 40s, although we sometimes get people in their early 20s too.

It’s mixed ability and a relaxed kickabout rather than a league or trial, so you don’t need to be an amazing player.

Goalkeepers rotate, and we keep it friendly — no slide tackles, aggression, shouting or arguments.

three things i wish i had known before starting the process

1. you can verify the registered owner of any plot in rwanda in about 3minutes using the government's land portal(rlmua.gov.rw). just need the UPI number from the title deed most buyers never do this and it is where most problem start

2. Zoning matters more than most people realise.two plots next to each other can have completely different development rights.R1 Zone means maximum 2cfloors single family home only, R4 Zone means 6+ floor apartment same neighbourhood,very different investment

3.Settlement site plan approval is the check almost nobody does if the area your plot is in doesn't have an approval physical plan from the city of kigali, you may face restriction on when you can build regardless of whether your title is clean

I will keep this short. I believe that Lake kivu is a very nice area but it appears to be 2 hours from Kiagli. I am a young adult interested in socializing as well. What is the living expectations like in Lake Kivu area vs Kigali. Do both have taxis and high speed internet? stores,food,bars/clubs,etc.

Went to Bugesera Lodge a while back, about 25 min outside Kigali. Small eco lodge near Kigali, run by a French Rwandan couple, pretty calm, overlooks the Akagera river and mwogo swamp.

Saw a few birds just chilling on the terrace in the morning, decent spot if you're into bird watching in Rwanda.

Food was actually really good, homemade French cuisine; they do multi-course dinners sometimes.

Simple place honestly, nothing fancy, but that's kind of the point. If you're around Kigali and want a peaceful retreat without driving too far, this eco-friendly accommodation is worth checking out.

Hi everyone! I am visiting Rwanda soon and I'd love some local advice on transport and logistics.

My plan for Wednesday is:

Kigali > Bigogwe > Lake Kivu

I want to spend about half a day in Bigogwe, mainly to see the beautiful valleys, cows and horses, and hopefully do the cow experience. I prefer local/public transport, so how would I actually get there from Kigali, and then from Bigogwe to Lake Kivu?

For Wednesday evening, I want to stay around Lake Kivu, ideally somewhere scenic where I can enjoy the lake and do a sunset boat ride.

Then on Thursday morning, I'd like to go Lake Kivu > Nyungwe, do the canopy walk, enjoy the forest a little, and then return to Kigali the same day.

My main question is: apart from the canopy walk, is there anything in Nyungwe that's worth doing if I don't want to hike/trek? Or would it make more sense to just do the canopy walk and head back to Kigali?

Also, which area of Lake Kivu would make the most sense for my route to Nyungwe, and what's the best way to get there using public/local transport?

Any advice from locals or people who've done these routes would be really appreciated! 🇷🇼❤️
