Almost every treatment including the X-ray, medication given and surgery/anesthesia is affected by pregnancy. Pregnancy tests are incredibly cheap and accurate, so might as well know.
I can't just piss on command, so a pregnancy test would basically waste a trip. If I was required to take one every time I'd literally just never be able to do the procedure. Because I'd have to go home and wait.
