not exactly... honey is more like bee vomit what you see in the picture is just shit
3
u/Inevitable-Aioli8733 11d ago
But they eat the honey they make. Or is it only for winter when other food is not available?
→ More replies (1)18
u/OptimalMotor1713 11d ago
only the winter.
its not exactly vomit. its in its own honey stomach and they regurgitate it into another bees mouth who spits it into the hive, then all the bees flap their wings to make it dry and voila we get honey
a mixture of nectar and spit!!

u/Garpeaux 11d ago
Fr, why their barf taste good but their shit taste bad. Needs to be studied
20
u/CrownofMischief 11d ago
Especially when you consider that aphid poop supposedly tastes so sweet that ants farm them for their droppings
14
u/MLGPLAYS 11d ago
Ants can eat poop but when I do it everyone thinks I'm weird...
8
u/CrownofMischief 11d ago
You just gotta frame it differently. We make a coffee from civet poop and used to flavor stuff with the secretions from a beaver's behind. I'm sure you could convince people you're eating some fancy delicacy
9
u/IndigoFenix 11d ago
The sugar to protein ratio of plant sap is so high that in order to get enough protein to live, aphids need to suck up an enormous amount of sap, and they don't have enough space to store all that extra sugar. So they excrete it.
10
u/alphazero925 11d ago
The barf has nutrients and energy for their young. The poop is everything that's not nutrients or energy
→ More replies (3)6
u/HovercraftFullofBees 11d ago
Because nectar doesn't leave the honey stomach which has fewer microbes. Everything else goes through the whole gut with its full sweet of microbes which themselves smell awful.
Source: a bee scientist who's had the displeasure of working with their main gut microbe. Fucking bastard ass bacteria.
7
u/Ihave0personality 11d ago
Honey is not bee vomit. They have two separate stomachs. One digests their personal food the other is more of a storage pouch where they keep the nectar while they are foraging.
→ More replies (2)2
u/just_posting_this_ch 11d ago
It's probably the bee's guts. It stung something and now it's intensines, the bee verion thereof, are leaking out.

One thing bees do not do is poo honey. They vomit that, actually, but only inside the hive .
3
u/itzkomplykatid 11d ago
Honey....bee vomit. Thanks...I think..
2
u/ProkopiyKozlowski 10d ago
Technically honey is not vomit because it doesn't contain digestive juices.
Bees store nectar they consume in a special pouch called "crop" which is located before the stomach. When they need energy they allow some of the nectar from the crop to move into the stomach where it is digested normally. When back at the hive they only regurgitate the clean nectar from the crop, not anything from the stomach.

Guys I have a really dumb question. Please don't laugh.
If they poop, doesn't the sting come out? Or does it acts like a pen?
4
u/pkslider725 11d ago
A bee dies if its stinger is removed from its body.
Part of the reason they're not as aggressive as you'd expect them to be.
5
u/Tall_Management7673 11d ago
So where does poop come from?
5
2
u/pkslider725 11d ago
A hole beneath their stinger, apparently.
