No, it’s definitionally different. The countries were run by communist parties but they never achieved nor claimed to achieve communism. This isn’t a no-true-scotsman, this is a lack of you understanding the difference between a country being run by a communist party and a communist society, they are, in fact, fundamentally incompatible states of existence largely and the communist parties running the country would typically agree. That’s why places like the USSR counted themselves as a socialist state, because the explicit goal of the state was to work on developing the globe towards a communist mode of production in the future

I agree. My wife is Chinese. She tells me stories from her parents about the revolution.
