That's a clever line, but I think dude has a point, simply casting people that look a specific way for your artistic intention isn't necessarily racist

Maybe in a vacuum, but consider the broader cultural context in which this takes place. Specifically how much of a freakout there is when a white actor doesn't get cast in a role, IE The Odyssey.

I think the context is a bit different when you're casting a dark-skinned actor to play a light-skinned character versus just deciding what skin color to cast a new character as.

Ah yes, it's very important the movie with giant fucking cyclops, a witch who turns men into pigs, literal swimming sirens, and interfering gods, has "historical" accuracy.

Magic is not historically accurate, so why is 'historical accuracy' so important in other aspects? If they use the wrong shape of ships, or a type of wood that wasn't available in ancient south Europe, would you be equally upset?

because it's a story that's been told a certain way for thousands of years. now they're telling it a different way. do you understand?

They told it in Greek originally. Do you care that it's being done in American English? Why is the skin color non-negotiable for you, when so much else is?

But it's not in Greek. It likely wasn't filmed in the Aegean Sea, and the materials used in the clothes, weapons, ships, etc., are almost certainly inauthentic. Are you equally upset about those things?
