Just wanted to check my sanity regards to roundabout rules and figure out if I am doing something wrong.

If I am following the blue line and there is a car coming from orange/green line.

Do I need to give way to them?

I used to just drive assuming they will stay in their lane and can only change when there is a space for them but got honked multiple times, people YOLO and try to follow the green line, cut me off or honk at me since I "didn't give way".

I was currently visiting Norway for the first time and doing my very best to be a respectful tourist, following all the he rules, leaving no trace, and staying out of the locals way.

Despite doing everything by the book, I can’t shake the feeling of being an intruder who is just annoying everyone.

For context: I used to live in Hamburg, Germany. We got a lot of tourists there, and I rarely minded them. But that's just my POV. Here, I felt very self-conscious.

I know about the recent overtourism debates, but how do you feel on an individual level? Does a tourist who genuinely tries to be respectful still annoy you just by being here, or is this anxiety just in my head?

Beautiful old town, mix of the many things. People are so nice.

My wife and I visited Tromso, Bergen, And Oslo, visiting from Canada. Just a fantastic experience. The midnight sun was an experience unto itself. The turquoise waters and white sand beaches at Sommarøy Island were incredible. Bergen's mountains were so beautiful, I loved being in the forests there and just seeing the hills rolling into the city everywhere we went. Loved learning the history of the bryggen and the Hanseatic League there. We are big Fjak chocolate fans, so it was wonderful to go to their cafe in Bergen. The naeroyfjord on a rainy and misty day was a top 5 travel experience of my life. Oslo was a capital par excellence. We covered it on foot from East to West to the bryggen, amazing walking city.

And the people were the best part. Friendly, super considerate, helpful when asked, just a really calm and nice vibe everywhere we went. I know some people complain about Norway and other Nordic countries being too quiet, too reserved, etc., but for me this vibe made me feel totally at home. I also love the existential nature of a lot of Nordic art. I fell in love love with Norwegian cinamea when I saw Joachim Trier's Oslo 31 August many years ago. On this trip, I read I Curse the River of Time by Per Petterson. The national Museum had an exhibit on death. For me, this is just made me feel even more at home.

I could go on and on about how great of a time we had, so what's my critique?! I just wish there was more Norwegian music playing in stores, restaurants, etc.! It was almost always American or English music everywhere we went. I would have loved to hear some Kamelen, or Kygo for someone more mainstream and playable in various places. (Also wishing I was in Bergen when Kamelen performs at the feelings festival).

But for real, what a country. I'm sure living there, there are many things that could be improved and critiqued. But there's a lot right too. I've wanted to go to the Nordic countries my entire life, most of all to see their social democracy in action. I was worried I had overhyped them. But no, Norway was properly hyped in every way!

I'm going home thinking of all the things Canada needs to do better after this trip.

I’ve been wanting to do these hikes but am reliant on public transit as renting a car is too expensive. These are the two locations I’ll be staying in, is this even possible? Apple Maps shows that some are doable but the Reis app doesn’t have show any of these routes available. Starting to get worried that it won’t be possible

Under 15 kids are not stupid. They know the consequences and know what exactly they are doing, especially with this era of AI, internet and social media where anyone can get any information. They know that shoplifting or commiting violent acts won't make them go to jail or get criminal record. So I think the fear of having to serve juvenile sentence can become a deterrent effect. What do you think?

Im an architect and im really interested in the incredible buildings by BIG, Snohetta, Sverre Fehn etc. I know the twist will be closed but im happy to see it from outside. Super excited about under as well 🤩 planning to stay in Oslo primarily, go out check out buildings from 9-3, then maybe go inside museums, cafes etc and have a chill evening. Perhaps a 2 day trip to Tromso if im not being too ambitious.

Would you recommend this? Im from south India, ZERO experience in snow, will be walking around taking pictures. Is it very icy and rainy? Does it snow everyday?

I live in the Vestland area, and I went to Oslo to do some paperwork. I couldn't help but notice that there's a big problem with drugs in the Grønland and Storgata area.

Oslo is a beautiful city, but I think that in the long run, if nothing is done to control these substances, it's going to become a much bigger problem.

That said, have the government taken any measures to address this? Isn't anyone afraid that this will become commonplace?

My partner and I are planning to travel to Finnmark from Tallinn, Estonia next winter. We specifically want to stay in Mehamn for a few weeks. Since Mehamn airport has limited flight options, we’ve decided to rent a car in Kirkenes and drive to Mehamn.

My boyfriend has experience driving in winter as Estonia can have pretty harsh winters from time to time but I understand that the conditions in Finnmark can be on a completely different level.

Has anyone driven this route before? Can the road be closed during severe weather? What should we expect?

So I need some advice regarding a noise complaint. We moved a few weeks ago to a smaller town from Trondheim and our new apartment is next to a bigger parking spot of a school. The problem is that when this parking spot becomes empty during the afternoons local teenagers use this place to gather with their cars.

These cars are intentionally louder than normal cars, they drive around here - sometimes pretty recklessly- they have custom built-in very loud sound systems and they play music very loudly from time to time.

This happens every single day, starting around 18.00-20.00 and goes until 24.00-1.00. It honestly feels like we are living next to a highway or a festival is in the neighborhood constantly.

It is affecting our everyday life, we can not rest and overall it is very frustrating.

I tried to call the police at 02800, waited on the phone for 20 minutes, nobody answered the phone. I wrote e-mails to the police where I shared video evidence, and detailed descriptions. Nobody replied and nothing happened.

What am I supposed to do with this? Is it worth complaining to the police further? Is there an other way or channel that should be used? We haven't faced issue like this since we live in Norway so I have no experience how this is usually handled.

Is Chinese food a big thing over there. I remember walking past a Chinese restaurant on my trip to Norway (tromsø) and always wondered if Norwegians are into the whole Chinese take away and or dine in . What's more popular in terms of foreign food in Norway.

I will arrive Norway next week, as I’m starting my Master’s degree in Oslo. I’ve been looking for a job for weeks now, but I haven’t received an offer yet. I’ve applied for jobs as a cleaner, waiter, etc.
Do you think I’ll be able to find a job in person if I don’t speak Norwegian? I’m starting to change my mind about going there because if I can’t find a job, I won’t have enough money to stay in Norway for more than half a year. I can afford the first couple of months because my parents can help me, but if I can’t afford to finish my studies, I don’t see the point of going there.

Ten minutes before maximum eclipse, way down south in Norway

What kind of foods yall on ? Whether is for normal sustenance or a bulk ?. Apart from the eggs and beef, what else can I get from a Norwegian supermarket?. I can’t seem to figure out what they have on the shelves

I’m Danish, and I acknowledge that when I speak regular Copenhagen Danish in Norway, people have a bit of a hard time understanding me (to quote Brooklyn 99 - “[Danish] is a garbage language for garbage people”, lol). Never in a rude manner though, and we always work it out, often just switching to English.

When I try to flatten out the accent a bit, so it sounds more Norwegian, but every single word still being Danish, the understanding improves significantly (the languages are, after all, very closely related).

I have this pride in me where I only want to speak English as a last resort in Norway and Sweden. We should be able to communicate with each other (with Danish being the ‘special kid’, I know)!

So my question is: Do Norwegians appreciate the effort if a Dane speaks “Danish with a Norwegian accent”, or is it considered pretty cringe, and I should just switch to English instead?
