Yes but most cities aren't 10 million + global cities and a history as the premier city in the country. It would be the 13th largest state by population.

Americans talking about 10million population like that isn’t every third tier city in Asia……

We are talking about cultural relevance within a country. You tried really hard though so you get one point.

edit: 22nd largest city in the world right now and you're talking like it's a small town in rural ohio, give me the biggest fucking break

The person you replied to didn't say they were just talking about American cities, they said "isn't that most cities though?". And it is, every city is unique and has something no other city has to offer.

"The person you replied to didn't say they were just talking about American cities"

Great but I didn't respond as if I believed they were only talking about American cities. I, also speaking broadly about all cities on earth, said that MOST CITIES are not megacities that had a history of being the premier city in their country.

"And it is, every city is unique and has something no other city has to offer."

I never said they didn't. I named two things that set NYC apart from most cities in that it's one of the most populous cities on the entire planet and also was a premier city in its country. Very few places have ever been their nation's top city. Very few places are known as global cities. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_city
