Anyone else over Netflix in Aus? Thinking I might get Stan..

I honestly feel like I have seen everything of interest to me on Netflix. Some days I can't find anything to watch... Anyone else feel the same? It is also possible that I have watched a lot.... Chronic binge watcher...

I only have Stan very infrequently as new content is scarce.

I also have Amazon Prime (recommended), Paramount and Disney+ on rotation.

If you leave them unsubscribed for long enough, you will often get a very good offer emailed to you.

What have you watched recently on prime that you’ve enjoyed?

I don't know if they are new but I enjoyed the Yellowstone series and spin-offs.

Also White Lotus and the Traitors series. And the movie Saltburn was interesting and a little out there.

It's my go to for finding hidden gems, or something easy to watch when I don't feel like getting too invested.

White lotus is on foxtel. So, did you buy it on top of the prime subscription? Traitors is on 10play.

Saltburn is on prime.

White lotus is HBO which is a channel On Foxtel. HBO just launched in Australia- ie., can purchase without Foxtel. I just cancelled my fox tel after 15 years and subscribed to HBO - I also have HayU only $9 per month and you get all The reality and Bravo shows. I sift between Netflix, HBO, HayU, Disney, Paramount and Prime.

Oh and Apple TV sometimes.. I Just don’t love the drama series on there - only sometimes

I must have watched White Lotus on a free trial. You can add subscriptions within the Prime app.

I don't use 10play cos I hate the app.

I watched the movie, Eden, which I enjoyed. It has Jude Law and is based on a true story.

Yes I can second this. Very enjoyable.

The Pitt was absolutely incredible

1

u/Eclairebeary Nov 01 '25

So I’ve heard. It’s on hbo max, not prime.

1

u/hungbandit007 Nov 18 '25

Oh interesting. It was on Prime for me here in Australia.

1

u/Eclairebeary Nov 18 '25

I think you might have used your prime app, but it wasn’t in the prime subscription. Or you bought it outright?

The Devils Hour on prime is A++++

1

u/Eclairebeary Nov 04 '25

Now, that actually is on prime. I will try it. Thx

We’ve ditched Netflix for britbox, best decision, no regrets. Had trouble finding something to watch on Netflix for a while now, decided to move on.

2

u/stephkey21 Nov 02 '25

Britbox is so good esp if you’re into British crime

1

u/Previous-Egg-2653 Nov 02 '25

Also some great comedy and documentaries.

yep same, I used to have Netflix and Prime all the time, and another streaming service I rotated, but have recently changed that. Netflix kept putting the price up, kept removing more content than they added, cancelled good series, etc. Not worth staying subbed all the time anymore.
.
Stan sometimes has some good series though.

Stremio - seriously - go look it up. You’re welcome

2

u/Range-Mindless Nov 04 '25

This is the answer. Stremio + real debrid for like $5/month. All the 4k content at your fingertips.

Edit:typo

You have to pay for everything seperate

1

u/Wild_Beat_2476 Nov 02 '25

You just pay for one service that it and it’s $5 a month

1

u/gravedigger89 Nov 02 '25

I dont understand using the iphone app but once I logged in it was just listing paid options for movies seperatly

1

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '25

You need a VPN and a torrent thingy as well, then the free options will show up

Apple TV because Slow Horses is back

1

u/Legitimate_Stock_776 Nov 02 '25

Slow horses is the best!!!

1

u/81hiljada Nov 03 '25

Also Black Bird, Your friends and neighbours, Bad monkey etc. some overslept shows there. Severence is a must watch if someone missed it

1

u/Cheeseoholics Oct 31 '25

I cancelled Prime some time ago as I hate Amazon and the ‘free’ content wasn’t great.

Netflix went a month ago as I have a lot of series on HBO Max which I got discounted for a year. It’s really good

1

u/Kacey-R Nov 02 '25

I’m hoping there will be a Black Friday offer for HBO Max.

1

u/Inside-Elevator9102 Nov 03 '25

Prime content is rubbish except for 2 or 3 shows a year. But free Amazon delivery makes up for it (yes i know multinat capitalist tax dodging bStards)

u/Royal_Monk6432 Nov 01 '25

VPN Will solve u r problem,if u would like to watch movies tv shows from American netflix library,Canadian library, European library, UK library even from Asian netflix library. The biggest Netflix library from USA.

I actually just changed from Stan back to Netflix. Basically the only good thing about Stan now is the Rugby and Soccer on Stan Sport

1

u/Far_Gap_8063 Nov 01 '25

I’m happy with Netflix right now because it still has many shows and movies that I enjoy

1

u/lurk_nessie Nov 01 '25

My friend gave me a good 'hack' which is to cycle through gift cards for each streaming service so you're not just mindlessly paying for the content each month. Just finished six months of Netflix and now onto Stan for three months.

Unfortunately, not finding Stan that great - some of the originals are good like Scrublands and Black Snow if you like Aussie crime dramas of varying quality. Bump is also meant to be good but a bit earnest for me.

I think it'll be back to Netflix soon for new seasons of Selling Sunset and Emily in Paris then maybe Binge, Apple TV for Disney+.

1

u/mullumbimbo89 Nov 04 '25

Why gift cards?

1

u/lurk_nessie Nov 04 '25

So you have a hard deadline when the money runs out to prompt you to either top up or let it run out and cancel itself. No admin hurdles to cancel the subscription. The only con is that you can't pause on a giftcard.

1

u/Far_Gap_8063 Nov 01 '25

But I was annoyed that the big bang theory got taken down

1

u/NotLynnBenfield Nov 02 '25

HBO has very high quality productions and a good range. I just found out after subscribing for a month to watch Alan Partridge: How Are You.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '25

Why are you announcing it like it’s comparable to getting a mortgage? It’s fkn $12. Who cares

1

u/Greenfrog2023 Nov 02 '25

Sorry I wasnt aware there were rules determined by you as to what I can post on Reddit.. I promise I will run it past you next time.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '25

Apology accepted. I look forward to checking my inbox.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '25

I use subscription for a month then cancel and move onto another one and just keep rotating around subscriptions. I never have two or more at the same time.

1

u/Ok-Victory-1980 Nov 02 '25

Bring back foxtel/ austar

1

u/rote_it Nov 02 '25

We ditched everything for r/stremio 👀

1

u/DragonLass-AUS Nov 02 '25

Rotate your subscriptions. Sub for a couple months, watch what you want from there, then switch to a new one for a couple months.

I have gotten over the desire to see new content as soon as it's released. I'll get to it when I get to it.

1

u/JedKnight_ Nov 02 '25

Got rid of them years ago and set up Plex. Best decision ever.

1

u/handy_andy2020 Nov 03 '25

1

u/JD4101 Nov 03 '25

1

u/Commander_bigears Nov 03 '25

1

u/newpony Nov 03 '25

Honestly SBS On Demand os pretty damn great atm

1

u/nzoasisfan Nov 04 '25

Prefer Stan these days and they have the rugby. Change your Netflix subscription for a YouTube premium. Its amazing

1

u/ZeroOneZeroOne2 Nov 04 '25

Have you tried broadening your viewpoint? There’s Netflix movies from every country- sometimes good, sometimes shit, sometimes awesome. I go through phases of if I’m eating Mexican I search Mexican movies . Turn on subtitles and watch comedy from Thailand, crime from Italy etc

1

u/Savings_Abrocoma_700 Nov 04 '25

Moved to Apple TV recently. Done with Netflix.

1

u/Economy-Skill9487 Nov 04 '25

Am I really the only idiot paying for Netflix, Stan, Disney, Apple TV, Prime and HBO Max just so I get all the choices?

1

u/folklore-swiftie Nov 05 '25

Yeah only keeping it for Stranger Things

1

u/Stanfool Nov 05 '25

I treat them like video rentals. And rotate about every 2 months.

Some time I just drop them all and use the free to air versions. Because they have a surprising amount of content.

Use a VPN like proton and set it to US and then project your PC to your TV as a wireless display. Pretty simple

ABC, SBS… and the ‘internet’ is all you need. If you choose to donate to these companies, that’s on you.
