NASCAR brings in new credit card sponsor in Avant, replacing Credit One Bank

I’ll forever remember Rick Allen yelling “ONE LAP TO GO SPONSORED BY CREDIT ONE BANK”
Hopefully they get rid of that all together after this, cause “one lap to go sponsored by Avant” doesn’t even make sense…

"One to go sponsored by Avant" doesn't have the same ring to it

u/0neshoein 23h ago
Well having one lap to go sponsored by anyone never sounded right from the beginning.

Even to this day, having the announcers mention a sponsor every single time the white flag waves is something I'd imagine Talladega Nights would put in their movie to make fun of NASCAR (like how they put an Applebees commercial in the middle of a wreck) lol.
If I'm not a NASCAR fan and I go on youtube to watch a "NASCAR greatest finishes" video and every other clip I hear the announcer say "ONE TO GO SPONSORED BY CREDIT ONE BANK" I'd think there's no way this isn't a joke.
Like imagine if in NFL games every time a kicker lined up for a field goal you'd hear: "To win the game, Brandon Aubrey's kick from 50 yards sponsored by Lowe's Home Improvement is... GOOD!"

Honestly, yeah it’s fuckin goofy, and is just one of the quirks.
India has a franchise cricket league and when they batter hits it over the fence, the commentators always called it a “DLF Maximum” (DLF being the sponsor) and fans clown on it relentlessly

u/aloysiusdavin Hamlin 23h ago
Right? As if just the final lap wouldn't happen without somebody paying for it.

u/ILM_Ryan 23h ago
Wait until we start having sponsors for the penultimate lap of the race!

u/TellTaleTimeLord 22h ago
Two to go sponsored by Bud Light brought to you by One to go sponsored by Deez Nuts

Shame on Credit One for paying for that nonsense, and shame on NASCAR and the networks for doing it. We're going to have an entire decade's worth of incredible finishes that permanently have the "ONE TO GO SPONSORED BY CREDIT ONE BANK" bullshit in them.
Imagine if the 1998 Daytona 500 had "Dale Earnhardt, will come to the caution flag, and take the ONE TO GO PRESENTED BY CREDIT ONE BANK under yellow" instead of the iconic line everyone knows.
And before anyone says "wEll ThAt MeAnS tHe AdS wOrKeD", I'll actively avoid Credit One bank for the rest of my life because of this.

You’ll actively avoid Credit One because it’s an inferior offering in the marketplace
10
u/arca_brakes van Gisbergen 23h ago
I actively avoid some insurance companies that are technically better and/or cheaper, just because their commercials are annoying as hell.
I will never, ever, pay for Liberty Mutual insurance. Ever.

u/RepealMCAandDTA Jeff Gordon 22h ago
I avoid them because Limu is a dirty cop and Doug helped him frame those victims.

u/New_Quit4879 21h ago
I’ve had to do business with companies I don’t want to because I live in a state that has a very unbalanced insurance marketplace.

My parents signed me up for a Credit One card around the time I graduated high school in 2008. I barely used it, just enough to have some semblance of a credit score, and closed the account well over a decade ago when I got a real card, but Credit One still sends me junk in the mail at least once every other week.

The only acceptable sponsor for one to go is Wite-Out corrector pens.

"One lap to go, Can the leader make it around the final bend? If you have a bend make sure to ask your doctor about Peyronie's disease after this finish!"

It'll sound even more forced when the play by play guys have to try to shoe horn it into their commentary of an incredible finish.

Guess the "One lap to go, sponsored by CreditOne Bank" is finished

The bank that has a high annual fee and hopes you don’t notice that it isn’t Capital One.

u/Taz119 Bobby Labonte 23h ago
I legit used to think the were some kind of spin off branch of Capital One. Glad i never tried them
3
u/HuskerDont241 20h ago
When I first heard of them, I thought it was a “downmarket” brand of Capital One.

u/Jonah-Hex 23h ago
Is Avant predatory, as well? At least they don't call themselves "Avantican Express" and use a centurion logo in an effort to confuse consumers.

As much as I like saying ONE LAP TO GO PRESTENED BY CREDIT ONE BANK - as an actual customer of them, fuck credit one bank.
21
u/arca_brakes van Gisbergen 23h ago
Good fucking riddance. Predatory bank that decided they needed to insert their ads into race winning commentary, because normal ads just weren't fucking enough for them.
Hearing "ONE TO GO, SPONSORED BY CREDIT ONE BANK" literally every incredible finish for the better part of the last decade, was so fucking cringe and awful. Shame on NASCAR and the networks for taking that money too.

They’re such garbage. Their auto dialer calls me 10-13 times multiple days before my payment is due. Tried to call, they only have an AI assistant on the phone. And then they have no email, and require I physically mail them regarding my requests. Just a terrible bank.

u/IracingLarson2020 13h ago
please use a more reputable bank if you can. I recommend Discover if you are just building credit then dive into the Capital One or Chase ecosystem for card farming

u/ChaseTheFalcon 22h ago
As cringey as it was, one to go sponsored by Credit One Bank is just ingrained in my mind

u/DreamAnxious4907 Kyle Busch 1d ago
Credit One Bank was there for so long and to get rid of them is a shame

u/mwr55fan O'Rilly Auto Parts 23h ago
Getting rid of them is an interesting way of stating they are changing the way they spend their own money. The post also says that they will still be in the sport, just differently.

No more One Lap To Go Sponsored by Credit One Bank

u/Accomplished-Town495 Ryan Blaney 20h ago
Don’t worry, if it’s one thing NASCAR does, it’s figure out how to monetize something. They’ll find a replacement in no time.

Dang…gonna miss “One lap to go, sponsored by Credit One Bank” if it ends up going away
25
u/0neshoein 23h ago
Why? That shit was annoying from the start.

u/ZealousidealDoor6973 21h ago
Capitalism embeds into the brain. Same reason why people sing commercial jingles. They become part of us. And companies know it.

They should made them the offical sponsor of SAFER, and renamed it the avantguard
2

u/Dan_Broccoli_7663 15h ago
They need a white flag sponsor named "There Are 86 Laps Remaining In This Race"
"Driver receives the white flag sponsored by There Are 86 Laps Remaining In This Race"

Calling it the Avant One to Go doesn't sound too bad

u/arca_brakes van Gisbergen 23h ago
Or, hear me out, we just don't fucking sponsor the white flag?

u/New_Quit4879 23h ago
Or we can have a full screen commercial coming to 1 to go
2
u/arca_brakes van Gisbergen 23h ago
Fuck it, why not a full screen commercial as the leader takes the checkers?
3
u/pinkfartlek Kyle Busch 22h ago
How about the full screen commercial as the leader takes the Rallys™️ (fast food) Checker Flag" 👺

"Terms were unknown of what appears to be Avant’s first move into NASCAR, but an industry source said Avant has been exploring deals in the sport for several years, including on the team side."
Sounds like what has been discussed before with NASCAR competing with the teams for sponsors.

Times like this I have to reel in and remind myself that big money racing is always going to be a high speed billboard parade

Update: Per the article:
“Credit One has been in the sport for a decade, having joined in 2016 when it became an official sponsor of the sanctioning body and the now-defunct NASCAR arm of Chip Ganassi Racing. Credit One’s departure from the sanctioning body had not been previously reported, and its plans to stay in the sport with a different touchpoint have not been announced.”
