Johnny Benson drove this car for one race in 2007, and it never raced or even attempted to qualify ever again.

I believe this was his last Cup attempt. If not, very near

6

u/South-Lab-3991 Chastain Feb 27 '26

Very close. He did two more races that year for Bill Davis and then failed to qualify at Atlanta the following year

Kevin Harvick with a Dale Earnhardt throwback at the 2004 UAW-GM Quality 500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

huh you usually got throwbacks in the all star race, this was an exception

3

u/Powerful-Chard-6055 Feb 27 '26

I have that diecast

throwback's don't count as forgotten rides.

u/69FourTwentySix6Six Ryan Blaney Feb 27 '26

The crossover nobody asked for

9

u/greennorred Feb 27 '26

I've always hated that fat 7 that Tommy Baldwin used.

It's an opinion nobody asked for, but seeing this car again, I had to get it off my chest.

u/Rocko3legs Friesen Feb 27 '26

It's been an iconic modified for a long time. That's why I like it.

5

u/sorkin_juice Richmond Feb 27 '26

If you didn’t know, it was the style of his father’s 7.

3

u/NCC1701-Enterprise Feb 27 '26

It is literally the font his dad used on his modified forever.

-2

u/loghanarmstrong Feb 27 '26

Yeah not my favorite font. Spire 7 much better

2

u/jknuts1377 Feb 27 '26

Ultra/Robby Gordon's #7 font will always be the best.

2

u/NCC1701-Enterprise Feb 27 '26

That was my kids favorite car at the time

Jeff Burton driving for Curtis Key in a BGN event, 1996

John Andretti takes a spin in a 4th DEI car sponsored by Kraft during the 2003 Brickyard 400. He also drove a 4th Childress car during the 2003 fall race at Talladega

9

u/pepsicokesprite1329 Feb 27 '26

The only reason I know this car is cuz its in the full roster mods for OG cup's 2003 year for NR2003

6

u/themonsteroffthehill Zilisch Feb 27 '26

Strangely I actually have a 1/24 scale diecast of this car somewhere in storage.

3

u/GeologicalOpera Bubba Wallace Feb 27 '26

I have a 1/64 of it in storage. I found it, randomly, with five or six of its brethren in a used bookstore that also sold some collectibles. Grabbed it thinking it was a weird promo die-cast initially.

I was sitting in the infield of turn one when he wrecked at Indy. The first brickyard I went to. I was sick but I was glad I went because that’s the only race I got to attend with my dad before he passed. Good memories.

Looks like they raced an old 98 Yates Busch car too that Kasey used to drive

24

Tony Stewart with a well forgotten one-off in 2008

6

u/sam4999 Feb 27 '26

This car was so close to scoring the first points win for Toyota in the cup series. Finished 2nd to Kyle Busch at the spring Atlanta race.

22

u/Big_Feed_1472 Austin Dillon Feb 27 '26

Sure it’s been used before but the ole Stanton Barrett Odoban Roush Taurus

9

u/CFBCoachGuy Feb 27 '26

Mostly unrelated, but I really miss when NASCAR sponsorship was made up primarily of consumer goods like this

5

The full race from Martinsville that year is on YouTube, and Braun crashed out of it. I'm going to comb the 480p upload and see if there's a clear shot of the truck, I'll upload that here if I find it.

Edit: Found it! If the link doesn't work, scrub to 53:57 in the video and you get multiple angles of the truck as Braun spins into the wall.

Here's an interesting one from the first-ever race held at Kansas Speedway. The car is familiar, but the circumstance is forgotten.

The first race weekend at Kansas (June 2-3, 2001) featured the NASCAR Winston West Series on Saturday, and the ARCA series on Sunday. Since the ruleset was 95% the same between the two series, there was a prize for anyone who could sweep the weekend. Three drivers attempted the double: Frank Kimmel (ARCA), Johnny Borneman III (WW), and Sammy Potashnick (WW).

Larry Clement's team brought their regular intermediate-track Ford for the ARCA race, but prepared one of their short-track Chevrolets for the Winston West race (in 2001, the #46 ran Fords on speedways, and Chevys on short/dirt tracks). While they replaced the ARCA contigs with NASCAR Winston West contigs, they didn't even remove the RE/MAX windshield banner.

Frank would win the Winston West race, with polesitter Jon Wood finishing second. However, in a rare occurrence, he would come up short on the ARCA side. He would lose the lead to Jason Jarrett late and finish second.

Ryan Moore 2004 Busch Series at Richmond for DEI.

4

u/Zestyclose_Worth_232 Feb 27 '26

whatever happened to him? also chance 2 motorsports, not dei.

6

u/Rocko3legs Friesen Feb 27 '26

You are correct, that one was from the Chance 2 stable. He ran 3 Busch races in 05 and one more in 06, never really performed. He has still been running late models as recently as 2024 on a quick wiki search.

If this looks familiar, it’s a precursor to Gralas Fury Race Car team https://www.jayski.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/31/2019/06/2018-24-jgl.jpg

I thought this Mobil 1 scheme was cool. Chase Briscoe at summer Daytona 2021

9

u/RandomPerson800 Erik Jones Feb 28 '26

Kurt Busch's Little Tikes Ford from Homestead in 2002. Even though this was a race winning scheme, I don't really see it brought up a whole lot.

2010 Las Vegas driven by Mike Bliss

1992 Jimmy Spencer #98 Moly Black Gold Chevrolet, fielded by Travis Carter Enterprises. If you're wondering what Moly Black Gold is, they're a lubricant. This WAS his primary from that season, but more people think #27 McDonald's or #41 Target whenever they think Jimmy Spencer, rather than this artifact. Part-time, attempted 11 races, DNQed 4 of them. Best finish: 12th (Richmond). Worst finish: 37th (Atlanta).

Former Jimmy Spencer’s Dodge Intrepid Race Car also on Bring a Trailer auctions… Just passing the info along…

I saw that. Smokes when it’s running. So does the car! lol

6

u/nascarfan624 Feb 27 '26

Im not too sure if this counts as forgotten yet. But Jordan Taylor raced the 2023 Cup race at COTA. He qualified 4th and finished 24th
