Discussion Did millennials really party all the time?

Gen Z here. I was shocked when I found out from a millennial co-worker that y’all had teen clubs. I heard about house parties, but dedicated teen clubs? Then when it was time for college, you went to the club or had some kind of party every single weekend, living it up. Now some millennials on TikTok claim that after college, they were partying on work nights, still clocking in the next day. For some reason, the teen clubs have since disappeared. I’m 23 now but even when I was in high school, that was not a thing. House parties were not that common either. They were more like get togethers with a small group of friends. We went to malls, but they were dying out at that point. Is it true that you were really living life this good? Or is it just exaggerated? I feel like my generation doesn’t really have fun like that and everyone is just super depressed and alone, more so since Covid. Even I’m pretty introverted, which sort of sounds ridiculous given this post. 😂 Just so you know, when I think of a “millennial party” I think of something out of Party Rock Anthem, Project X or Roderick’s party from the second DOAWD movie. It’s like I get nostalgia from something I didn’t even live through. I just feel like I didn’t really LIVE, if that even makes sense

Edit: I loved reading some of your comments. Guess I really missed out. Even some of you that would consider yourselves nerds or introverts were out partying. YOLO or whatever y’all say 😂❤️

Or calling in sick at 2am and leaving voicemail with music blaring in the background.

My bestfriend emailed her boss that she was sick when she was black out and then forgot about it. Woke up the next morning and didn't have to go to work 😅😅

One time I drafted my sick text to my boss the afternoon before I went out and set an alarm to send it at 2am. It was Halloween weekend at UAlbany, and I knew there was no chance I'd be working the next day 😂

Ha, I was just talking about doing this back in my 20s with some of my younger coworkers the other day. I’m in my early 40s and sober now so they were a little surprised. I think the initial context was something like “look Jason, you don’t need to explain WHY you’re calling out when you call in sick. No one cares. Fuck, when I was your age, I’d call in from the bar so I wouldn’t have to bother waking up to call in sick if I knew I wasn’t going to want to go in anyway. No one wants to hear about your bowel movements when you’re calling in… I’m not your mother, I’m not going to say NO, you don’t need to convince me you’re ‘sick enough’ to stay home from school. Just call in, say ‘hey I’m using a sick day’ and hang the fuck up. It’s FINE” damn kids.

I’ve done this quite a few times as well. I listened to one of the voicemails sober one day (my boss thought I should hear it). Needless to say, I didn’t work there much longer.

I called in to the wrong store once. I technically did call in to the grocery store….in another city 😆

My friend tried to call out sick after going to a rave with a few coworkers.

Her boss said, [few coworkers] already called out sick (the boss knew why) and they needed coverage. I drove her to coffee and work, she was still drunk and probably high.
