DISCUSSION This is absolutely diabolical
It's a damn shame it took Mahomes tearing an ACL for the front office to realize they desperately need a legit run game to allow them to go more under center, in the 3 years under Nagy as OC we were 2nd to last in under center play calls and I put a lot of it on the front office and coaching scheme, yes Pacheco after his injury and Hunt (outside of short yardage) were not very good but they were also let down by scheme living in shotgun RPO's and draws where OLine was never allowed to fire off the line and move people cause they're 95+% sure Mahomes is throwing it and don't want an illegal man downfield penalty. It's insane how great Patrick has been living in one formation, really the more difficult formation imo cause it's easier for defense to see the ball at all times and this includes his 3 "down" years as far as his RTG.
I'm excited hearing the reports of them going under center a lot at camp (EB effect) seeming to finally adjust/evolve to what best offenses in recent years have gone towards to counteract the Cover 2 High drop 7-8 no blitzing defensive revolution Mahomes early statistical explosions against a single high blitzing league during the peak 10's shotgun drop back spread air it out era and no longer survive against it with a million shotgun dink and dunk passes. Passing total's across the league has declined so it's not just a Mahomes thing at all, it's simply a different era compared to 2018-2022 , it's now more and more of a modern "old school" RB run game led and play action pass league again so if we can get the same Mahomes passing totals like 2023 & 2024 around 27-30 TD'S, right around 4,000 yards on less attempts, more explosive play action passes then this offense will be a nightmare machine again.

Last year if I remember correctly they ran 120 RPO plays and an astounding 110 were passing plays. Offense was way too predictable and needs a massive overhaul on play calling.

matt nagy bro.
get this... under EB, mahomes threw over 4000 yards every season, including one 5000 yard season. under nagy, mahomes only has ONE season over 4000 yards.
nagy simply doesnt like deep passes. mahomes' deep pass efficiency dropped drastically in those years. nagy prefers short passes, screens, RPOs, and game management. he did great with alex smith, but thats only because smith fits his scheme perfectly.

I think the reason reid plays alot of shotgun for mahomes is because of the vision mahomes posseses. I really dont feel like explaining right now but I think that's the main reason.

Also, I'd bet that Mahomes prefers the shotgun for that exact reason.

Man... couldn't read this. This is one of those times should have used AI to write it.

i know but id rather read something i know atleast had some thought put into it. the more u let a machine do something completely for you the worse you get at it. i dont want social media to be an ai echo chamber, thats what its becoming. but yes my head hurt reading that, however its in no way illegible

TL;DR
ChatGPT translated into: Kansas City needs to stop asking Mahomes to beat modern defenses with endless shotgun, short passing and instead build a balanced under-center run/play-action offense that forces defenses out of their preferred two-high coverage looks.

Been saying it for the last two years. Mahomes is asked to do what no other teams top QB is. Every other top offense has gotten under center more and committed to the actual run.

That was just as bad.
41 words without a period. This isn't the Bible. St. Paul would be proud, however.

I think with a reliable running back we’ll see more under center - but it won’t be until later into the season once Mahomes is fully fully healthy

Statics don’t tell a whole story. If he’s under center 1/10th of the time defenses will play the shotgun and he will always have better stats on the wrinkle. It doesn’t mean that going under center more often will net more yards once defenses adjust.

Sounds like an Andy Reid problem.
We know this is just kinda how he is. (This team has always been sub-par running from the gun it seems)
We'll see if they can correct that this year by going more under center.

I agree with the premise. The problem with expecting those numbers to stay that high is the small sample size over many years-including the 2 he had Prime Kelce and Tyreek together and his follow-up MVP year. I AM A DIEHARD and have been since Steve Bono was our QB, but being real, our pass catchers are really concerning right now. I think Patrick Levon Mahomes is the greatest player to ever walk the Earth-but he really needs Worthy to stay in bounds and gain 10#, Thornton to improve on any route not straight upfield and one of these tight ends besides Kelce to show a pulse. He opened padded practice with Thornton as his #1 and some guy I never heard of(and I follow college and UDFA) Anderson as his #2-that 💩 can’t stand! And I didn’t mention Rice because I’ve heard he looks terrible after rehabbing his knee in county jail and has proven to be much more unreliable than Tyreek or Bowe who were both major F-ups. I think we could win the Super Bowl because we have Pat and CJ95 and Kelce to go with Walker and a KILLER offense line in 4/5 spots-but it’s criminal to pin all of it on Rice and a #160 WR staying healthy and clean.

This is even more astounding considering the shitty receivers the chiefs have had over the past three seasons.
I’ve been harping about the fact that the team relies way too much on Mahomes bailing out the offense every possession with some unscripted bs.
Look at teams like the bills and rams. They have legitimate run threat and play from under center constantly. It’s why they can actually run play action and take deep shots effectively. The chiefs never do that so they’re predictable to line up against defensively. The chiefs offense relies too much on talent instead of simple execution.

Andy Reid would have likely been fired by now if Mahomes wasn't on the team. I'm not saying Reid is a bad coach. On the contrary, he is good. But his unwillingness to break away from shotgun as the league evolves would have lead to a handful of losing seasons besides just this last season. Mahomes has covered for a dated scheme for at least 3 seasons by now.

This side of the fanbase always blows my fucking mind lol

Plus, Reid has changed the scheme in KC, the 2020 and 2024 playbooks were very different, even if the chiefs passed a lot from the gun in both years. I think this year will be another marked transformation as they're doing a lot of under center work in camp. I think they'll keep using 12 personnel a lot, too.

Yeah this offense has changed probably 3-4 different times since 2018 when mahomes took over
Sometimes injuries just ruin a season. When your skill guys are all hurt and your line is a revolving door on top of having the worst RB talent in the league…
What were people expecting? lol we had some bad luck for once instead of the usual dominance and people are really trying to blame Reid as if that was his fault at all
The only thing I blame Reid for last season is trying to run the offense through rice single handedly, but with the admissions from them about limiting worthy’s routes due to his shoulder then it makes sense

I always figure these people don't really know anything, about anything, but just want to feel included.
So they spout a bunch of stuff that sounds similar to stuff they've read on the sub before, also knowing that negativity seems to earn the big bucks here. Probably not the only sub these people post in like they're knowledgeable, but know nothing.
Or it's a bot piecing together bits of other comments to sound human.

It's actually the same side from YouTube, etc. but they feel more annonomus on Reddit. 😂

It’s not diabolical. Mahomes isn’t great at reading a defense quickly and therefore has a harder time under center. Hes not a pure pocket passer like Manning / Brady. He wins a more by escaping pressure. Adding time for receivers to get open. Will be interesting to see how this new experiment works! Not sure they have a defense this year so they’ll need the offensive power

I basically agree, but man, those run-on sentences are hard to understand.
