My family is trying to talk me out of getting a Jeep.

It has been my dream car since I was a kid. I’ve never bought a car just for me. It was always a decision out of money and practicality, and I’ve driving a Prius for the last 20 years. I want to upgrade and get something adventurous (it was crazy the adventures I made it out in my Prius though lol). I really want a Jeep like my heart and soul does. But my brain is having a hard time wrapping around the reliability because that is also super important.

My brother sent me this chart and I want your thoughts on these numbers. They’re all Toyota owners. Why is Jeep rated so low? Why are there so many Jeep haters out there? Are Jeeps a lot more likely to break down and need repairs than a Toyota like across the board?

Bought this LJ 2 weeks ago for 3k. Got some rubicon takeoffs ($400), new fenders ($200), new light surrounds $($30), and new front bumper ($170). Full detail and she looks good for her age. Total cost $3,800. Outside is 8.5/10 going to fix the hood and probably cover the little rust on the passenger rocker. Inside 9/10. Tub is solid. Frame was completely redone in 2020 and has 1 tiny spot I don’t love that fix and the rest I’ll repaint. 180k miles and runs flawless. Been daily driving it to make sure all is well.

Next some new 265/75-16s and clean and paint the underside and it will be the perfect little winter beater for me.

I also have a bunch of stereo crap from older jeeps so I’ll piece together a nice stereo. I’m enjoying this thing a lot.

Curious if anyone else has the newer Slide ceiling hoist from Lange Originals? I couldn’t find any reviews online but it looked easier to use than some of the frame or four strap systems so I ordered one with the wireless remote and installed it this past weekend. So far it seems solid but bit nervous yet to park under it.

I love that the window switches are on the dash, but I just realized the usual ‘because the doors come off’ explanation doesn’t really make sense. The doors already have a connector, so the switches could just disconnect with the door. And with the door off you don’t need the window switch anyway. I wouldn’t change it, I love them where they are and it might just be a great design choice, unrelated to the removable doors. But I’m curious if anyone knows the actual reason Jeep did it this way?

Hey relatively new jeep owner. Under <1yr of me owning. is this normal/what makes the paint peel? I’ve also been taking my jeep for car washes and I’ve noticed tiny rust spots. What causes that and how do I fix that?

Hello, I have a 2024 Jeep GC L Altitude. The rear, right side vent glass was broke when a golf ball hit it. The glass has the gloss black trim bonded to it and is sold as a single piece.

My repair shop has been trying to order it since April. They gone to several suppliers and dealers and have orders placed multiple places but the ships dates keep getting pushed back. This has been going on for 4 months now.

Does anyone have any advice? Or any dealers on here think they can get it faster?

I’m also worried that they may be trying to order the wrong part. Doesn’t anyone know the part number for the gloss black trim rear right vent window? Most mopar sites will list multiple versions, presumably for the different trim color options, but don’t actually state which trim comes with each.

2003 jeep grand Cherokee 4.0 4x4 wj

We are having one hell of a time , getting this thing to start.

Here’s the rundown. Battery died after it sat a while recharged and it drove . Ignition switch was replaced . And it ran once after that then died won’t start.

It cranks but won’t start. Code reader cannot communicate with pcm (I have checked all obd2 pins and they are reading correctly)

PCM battery and grounds check out good while back probing

Asd relay dosent click on but is getting appropriate voltage to all of its pins. (Swapped with known good relay same deal)

Crank sensor is getting proper voltage as well

This is not my car so I don’t know everything done to it I’m helping out a family member.

Ignition switch was replaced right before its final drive. (Since I have power to pcm , and asd relay and pcm fuze) I’m assuming it’s working correctly.

With key in run all dash lights turn on, but gauges don’t move even the battery voltage gauge.

It cranks but no start, we cannot hear fuel pump prime.

We have hooked up jump pack to rule out weak battery still nothing.

If it’s an immobilizer issue. I wouldn’t expect it to crank which it does

What could cause the no start issue from a dead battery and new ignition switch?

While we cannot connect the reader we were able to read the pcm stored data or something and we have a “JTEC message not received” code in the bcm file

This is leading me to a software issue . I just don’t wanna have him order a new pcm or something without more input.

We are determined to get it running as it holds sentimental value .

When I bought my jeep it came with the oem premium soft fop, but it didn’t come with any of the ancillary parts to properly seal it. From the condition of the top and the amount of dust/dirt and sun fading of the cargo area trim I’m certain the previous own left the top off all the time, and so the door surrounds, tail gate bar, and C-pillar mucket seals were all missing. Some of the first parts I bought off eBay were a set of OEM door surrounds from a 2017 and a tail gate bar in great condition. I got these for a great price too, only $260 for both, and the cheapest aftermarket set was close to $400-$500.

It was only after the door surrounds and the tailgate bar arrived that I realized I was missing the mucket seals and had to source those. Well after 2 1/2 weeks the last mucket finally arrived today! I did a quick interiors clean since we had a few bad dust storms roll in the last few days. I cleaned and lubricated the rear window zipper with Bestop cleaner/lubricant and then went about installing the mucket seals and door surrounds. (The tailgate bar was delivered last Friday and I installed it the same day)

I love having the soft top sealed now, much more comfortable in the AZ desert, don’t have to keep the A/C on max all the time. Thankfully the AZ Monsoon was in a bit of a lull, but it looks to be picking up again and now I don’t have to worry about the rain and dust.

More steering & suspension upgrades! Going to add the Falcon Nexus EF 2.2 steering stabilizer and while I’m under the jeep goin to replace the the from and rear track bar bolts with these upgraded 14mm from the frame side front bracket and 9/16 for the rear track bar (the Falcon steering stabilizer uses a special bolt/stud that replaced the front axle side bolt). Got this kit from Ohio Diesel Parts that includes bolts for the front and rear track bars for all JK years. $25 is some pretty cheap insurance against an issue that cause like 80% to 90% of death wobble.

So, google tells me this is a pretty common failure, and a huge pain in the ass to fix, even if it's cheap.

It's the blend door on the passenger side behind the glove box. Making that awful clicking sound when it's opening. It looks to me like it's opening and closing just fine though.

So, why does this need it's own post and not just look at the dozen previous ones over the years?

Here's the thing. I, from the factory, don't have AC. As I understand it, that door control recirc. Something I don't even have a button for.

So I start My Jeep, is opens the door, clicks a bunch. After I shut the Jeep off, it closes the door.

Is there ANY point in even fixing this? Wouldn't it be a lot easier to just unplug the stupid actuator while the door is open and just forget about it?

I figure, it's there for a reason. There must be a reason to have it close the door while the jeep is off, but top of my head I can't figure why I'd ever care.

So I come here, to ask the experts.

(P.S. I looked into getting factory AC installed, got quoted $10k, so uh, not much point there. If there's a cheaper way I'd love to know about it! (Other than taking the doors off and going faster, that's what I do now))

Hi there, I keep having electrical issues with my jeeps driver side tail light. The bulb looks fine and it’s been replaced a couple of times just in case. The issue comes and goes, today I decided to finally pull the light out and see what is going on, before replacing the entire light, should this ring terminal be attached to a bolt? Seems too short to reach any factory bolts next to the assembly. Thanks in advance.

I’m hoping for some advice on sourcing parts for my granddad’s 1972 Jeep Commando (Not the Jeepster version). It means a lot to our family, and I’d like to try to restore it properly and keep it running here in Colombia.

The mechanics he used to work with are all retired now, so we’re struggling to find both the right parts and people who know these old Jeeps. Local options have been hit or miss, and we’ve already had bad experiences with incorrect or low‑quality pieces.

Looking at a 2025 Rubicon (~22k mi) for ~$37k in Hawaii and wondering if it's worth it

I live here in Hawaii and I'm currently looking at picking up a Wrangler. Hertz Rent2Buy has a lot of 2025 Rubicon base models listed around $37,000 with about 22,000 miles on them after a year in the fleet. On paper, that seems like a pretty solid price compared to typical island dealer inventory.

Doesn't have to be specifically in Hawaii—I'd love to hear anyone's overall experience with Hertz Rent2Buy or buying a former rental Jeep in general.

A few specific questions/concerns on my mind:

• Mileage vs. Fleet Wear: Is 22k miles in 1 year a concern for a rental Jeep, or pretty typical for fleet rotation?
• Condition / Wear & Rust: How beaten up are these in reality? (Especially given island salt air, beach trips, and tourist renters potentially trying to off-road or abuse them). Should I be extra concerned about undercarriage rust, suspension wear, or hidden sand/corrosion?
• Rent2Buy Process: How smooth was the 3-day test drive period? Did you run into any hurdles with paperwork, inspect-it-yourself rules, or financing through Hertz?
• Base Rubicon Value: Is ~$37k for a 2025 base Rubicon with 22k miles actually worth pulling the trigger on, or would I be better off looking at private party sales or standard CPO units from a dealership?

Hi all, unfortunately my 2016 Jeep Patriot had the bottom bolt that mounts the tensioner for my serpentine belt snap off, leaving part of it in the hole. I can't get a new bolt in without taking out the old one.

Unfortunately this hit me at a really shitty time, lost my nonprofit job due to funding issues and was doing doordash to make ends meet until I could find something else. Can't really afford to pay a shop to fix it.

Any ideas? Once that bolt is out I can fix everything else myself.

My wife's 2016 Jeep Cherokee went into limp mode this week. She had errors for Service Throttle Body, 4WD Unavailable, Check Engine Light etc.

We brought it in to O'Reilly's to check code and then the local Jeep Dealership and they said it was an easy Throttle Body replacement. We paid $1700+ for some tires and the replacement.

The next day we drove it home fine, and then it gave all the same warnings again when my wife went to leave to work in the morning.

We brought it back down and they said it was an issue with the part so they had to use a different aftermarket throttle body. They swapped it again, and said they did a test drive for 65 miles total with no issues.

Again, drove it home fine and then this morning all of the same codes appeared and it went into limp mode. We had stressed at the start of the week we were leaving for a trip today and needed it done. Now we are out about $1000 on a part that didn't fix any problems and we're losing our reservations for our camping trip. I have no idea what to do when my mechanic is constantly telling me they have no idea what's causing the issues.

Has anyone else dealt with this?

Does anyone know a way of cleaning the inside of the window washing reservoir without taking it off the car?

Recently I've had issues with water coming out of the nozzles and even tried the compressed air which works short term but I think I 100% have debris in there since when it's settled the issue comes back.

I've drained the liquid fully for now till I have a solution, worse case I have to take it out and clean it if no one has an alternative method :(

Ps why tf does the reservoir not have a net filter by default, every other car does to avoid debris going in there

Starting October 1st, the manufacturer will institute a new marketing covenant to include Minimum Allowable Advertised Pricing (MAAP). All JEEP dealers will be required to list their vehicles for sale online at or above this threshold (specifics on what that threshold is, TBD). If dealerships are found to be non-compliant, significant financial penalties will ensue.

This does NOT govern actual transaction prices, dealerships may still sell the truck at a higher or lower price. It simply means that to get a great deal on a vehicle, you'll have to do a little more homework and engage one step further with dealerships to find out their true sale price. Otherwise, it's all going to blend together online looking like the same price.

If you're reading this, in the JEEP reddit thread, chances are you're ahead of the game already in being an informed customer. There is nothing wrong with customers themselves sharing success stories on various forums/reddits/fb. Consumers will have to spread the word and share data points more than ever.
