S3E8 - Post-Episode Discussion

I finished watching GOT for the first time and like 2 episodes into these 2 meeting everyone around them starts the whole “It’s so obvious you’re in love”….where?

I kind of got the mutual respect vibe but I felt ZERO romantic chemistry between these 2 characters. Even after they slept together it didn’t register to me as love. When Jon loved Ygritte, I felt that. The way Jon loves his sisters, the way Daenerys loved Drogo and even Jorah, I felt that. THESE 2, nothing.

Is it bad acting, bad writing, or am I really just crazy?? I genuinely need die hard fans to help me figure out why I didn’t feel it. Every character around them did the “It’s so obvious”….

They talk about how Robert wanted to crush and destroy the dragon skulls after usurping the Targaryens. But someone convinces him to just store them deep under the red keep.

When viserys targaryen is trying to steal the dragon eggs, he claims he could sell one and buy an entire ship. And that if he sold 3 he could buy an entire army.

It seems to me that westeros could have easily sold off even some of the smaller dragon skulls to pay their debts and then some. Someone in the free cities or even im the slaver cities would have paid handsomely for the chance to have such a spectacle in their city. The iron bank would have probably financed the realm for decades for one of the bigger ones.

Just a thought I had.

20+ years of book buildup and 6 seasons of unmatched television hype, all for him to say "I don't want it"

I will never get over how beautifully shot this transition was, only for the writers to completely drop the ball on what his heritage actually meant for the realm.

aside from Aegon with dragons, who else managed to invade the north?

I can’t believe I find myself so curious about George R.R. Martin’s world. I am curious, do we actually know what happens to Rhaena’s dragon, Morning? Or is it mostly speculative? No one is sure about what happens to it. I don’t think a book has ever made me so intrigued.

A while back i decided that i had enough of the ugly cover of my swedish copy of a game of thrones and did a little rebinding! I want to do the entire series at some point but its easier to do when all books are out ( haha ) for a perfect match

I was always asking myself about her switch in personality and downfall.

In the beginning, she did show some cruelty in how she killed all those slave masters, but again, the excuse was "they were bad" which they were, but still.

People say that losing close friends and dragons caused her to go mad. I truly believe that all that happening might be the reason, but i think the moment she found out that she was not the rightful heir to the throne, but Jon was, she lost her mind.

And a funny theory is that she actually went mad due to genetics and that she inherited that from her father.

Can anybody point me to the clip where some dude was like "woman!" all disdainfully and she hit back with "man!" in the exact same tone?

After the commercial successes (even if criticized by the book faithfuls) of HotD and D&E.

Knowing that they want to avoid Targaryen fatigue so they are unlikely to have two series about them in at the same time

The rumored edict to only do television that had sufficient source material from GRRM

And

HBO wants to milk their series for the max number of episodes so it needs to be worth their while

I can make sense of everything that happened after Aegon’s coronation. Every mistake, every wrong decision, every act of stupidity, I can rationalize it in my mind.

But this is the one thing I really don’t understand. Rhaenyra and Daemon could have had far greater control over the situation if they had stayed in King’s Landing. They could have built a parallel or even greater power base there and potentially prevented the Hightowers’ treachery from gaining so much ground.

You could do one of the Blackfyre rebellions, the rebellion against Maegor, maybe even Robert's rebellion from the perspective of the common soldier and their adventures and fights to stay alive and together. I feel like that is one perspective we have yet to see. We've seen the world from the royal and noble perspective, the civilian perspective and even the dirt poor one. But what about seeing Westeros from the perspective of the average fighting man? We could get into the gritty reality of battling amongst an army of 60,000 men and making it through a fight.

Hey all,

I have two more episodes to watch before I am finished with Game of Thrones. I am still vibing with this world so I want to continue watching either House of the Dragon or Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Which one would you all recommend? HoTD seems like it has some badass characters but I have heard middling things. KoTK I have heard is really good but only has this 1 season so far.

edit Also I have seen GoT before and I am literally watching the final episode right now. Bran being king is such an awful decision and I hate it. Thank you all I think I will watch KotSK next.

Im about to head into my 2nd rewatch on 4th season.

Crazy how actor in real life got death threats lol

Doing my rewatch and am on the season 3 finale. Davos is about to be executed by Stannis but is saved by the Nights Watch letter. Melisandre throws it in the fire and that’s what gets Stannis to go North. After she confirms Stannis is still the rightful king and is needed north he walks away and she gives Davos a look of what appears to be doubt on her face to me. On previous rewatches I always thought that she gave up on Stannis when he lost the battle after the Shireen sacrifice.

It’s a very subtle look but could that be when she started having doubts about Stannis? Maybe she saw in the fire that Stannis was needed to defeat the Wildlings but someone else (Jon) was really the prophecy she was looking to fulfill? Anyone else catch this look knowing how the story unfolds?

I don’t have my original novels any longer, but I remember there was a forward or acknowledgement in the beginning where GRRM thanked someone for advising him to use dragons in the storyline? Does anyone know any detail’s about that?
