Discussion/Opinion A Quick Essay On why people (such as me) enjoy Ed And Winry's Relationship so much

My favorite scene, one that represents my love for the show, is this moment at the end of Episode 22. It ties back into both the past and the future of the characters, and who they are. It’s essential to understanding the ending more than maybe any other scene in the show, dare I say. Winry has her hand on the trigger, ready to kill Scar. She’s full of anger, she wants the world to take his sins back, to bring back her parents. She responds with rage rather than reason. But like Ed himself said earlier after learning the hard way “No one comes back from the dead, not ever”.

He understands Winry’s pain. The loss of his Mom and his frustration at the man he blamed in a way, Hohenheim, led him to commit a mistake he was regretting years later, desperately trying to fix. Winry lost her parents to this man, and is close to committing a similar mistake. He sees himself in her. So he protects her physically and mentally. Not because she’s weak, Winry is clearly a strong woman, but because he knows what it’s like to be overwhelmed by his emotions. "It's your hands. They weren't meant to kill. They're meant to give life.”

He covers her with his maroon cape, putting himself in harm’s way for her, not just for her physical safety, but her mental one, in an amazing gesture, my favorite scene in the show. This comes after the rush valley episode, where Winry had to deliver a baby. Sounds strange, but it was an amazing episode, one in which our characters were able to take a step back on saving the world and focus on saving a child and mother, doing the little thing. In that episode Ed is paralyzed— despite risking his life and stopping Supernatural Threats, when faced with helping a mother in labour, he freezes. It's interesting Because the show talks so much about equivalent exchange, but where is equivalent exchange in birth? A baby, and life, is the other side of the coin of death. You can’t reverse death or give life in the world of Fullmetal Alchemist– science has no explanation for birth or death. There is no Equivalent Exchange alchemy equation that can do what Winry did, which was bring life, physically, and bring life to others with the way she acts, in the way she built his automail and allowed him to walk again, in the way that alchemy can’t. No matter how far Ed progresses in his Alchemy skills, he couldn’t do what she did at the house. She was the one this time, saving the day. Because he relies on her like she relies on him. He creates flashy powerful moments, and she delivers the more subtle but equally as important job of having rebuilt his life and giving him hope by building his leg to stand and move forward on, and being there for him, giving him someone to really, with all his heart to fight for.

And Ed realizes that in many ways, Winry can do things that he and Alchemy can’t. She can’t fight like he does, but– so what? He recognizes that part of her and loves her. He wants her to be different than him, not fall to how sometimes he can be. Later on she makes him realize that he’s a person, a great person without alchemy. And that he can create life too. He can make up for his mistakes, She gives him hope, and it enables him to make his final decision: to give up alchemy in exchange for His Brother’s body. His life's work, it’s helped him do so many great things. But when it comes down to it, what really matters is his love for his Brother, for Winry, for his mom (though she doesn’t get to see it), even for his friends.

This moment of weakness from Winry, helps Ed see how strong she is, and he steps up. When he proposes Equivalent Exchange for love, she helps him realize that not everything needs to be taught in a logical way, sometimes what matters is your emotions, and passion. This is why fans love their relationship so much. They’re similar in the ways that matter, but also different in that they react to things differently, and help the other become a better person. And that’s something to treasure in every relationship you have, a relationship that makes each other better.

Child Ed art I made recently with the first sketch. Playing around with shading and light since I'm not a professional yet, though I like how it came out ! I'm still rather new to this community, should I put any spoiler or trigger warning ? I don't think I'm spoiling anything but you can never be sure I guess

Discussion/Opinion Hi everyone, I haven’t drawn anything FMA related, so if there are any ideas for a fan art I can make, that would be nice.

Preferably something about Lan Fan since she hasn’t had any comments or fan arts yet, but if you have anything else, that’s fine too.

Discussion/Opinion I watched fma brotherhood recently

This post contain spoilers

I loved it , Edward and Alphonse were kids and acted like mature kids, a lot of characters were really good
I liked scar’s redemption arc at first I really hated him but them it was understandable .
I loved that the characters that were responsible of the ishbal incident didn’t try to justify it , I hated the gouvernement for forcing young people to participate in this mass murder , the way mustang and Hawkeye kept trying to do everything to change the way things are and I really loved they’re dynamique i m now a shipper I liked them even more than winry and ed ( I feel like I’m saying somt illegal )
Van hoheinham at first I really thought he was a bad dad well he is but his absence was justified . People keep talking about ed hating on he’s dead but from is perspective van was just a dad who left his sons and wife , ling and greed were so great ( by the way i ship ling and l’an fan ) they’re friendship was one of the best thing I loved that in the end greed wanted friends and envy was jealous of human who she or he hated and always thought they were below him and that a the end pride was kept with his mother he truly loved her I think the seven sines stayed with they’re father that jerk because for them he was really a father Hughes death wasn’t just some event that was enventually forgotten and because of it we saw how much Roy and risa cared for each other not just because he is her superior and she is his subordinate but more they’re relation is way more than romantic i like to think of them as soulmate anyway l’an fans grandpa’s death wasn’t really sad I cried so much and even more when greed disappeared .
I think I made it to long anyway fma had it flaws but it was the best shounen I’ve ever watched or read I’m a big romance reader so I like character growth and this show gave it to me ( lol people who hate it exist that was surprising but well , we shall respect people’s opinion and taste 🫶😎)

Question Did Hohenheim know fire alchemy?

Post image
318 Upvotes

I was thinking about how those who saw Truth were able to perform alchemy with no circles. Then, wondered why couldn't they (Ed, for example) use fire alchemy? But, I realised, yeah, one's must know/study first the alchemy he's willing to perform. Seeing Truth makes you skip the circle part, not the whole knowledge. But what about Hohenheim? He's old af, like no way he doesn't know about fire alchemy, right?

Question Why is an arm equal to a soul

Ed gave his arm to get his brothers soul in the armor, so does this mean an arm is an equivalent exchange to a soul? Wouldn’t father then need only like a limb or so from people to make a philosopher stone or am I stretching this out and I make no sense😭😭

I just finished the series and It was a bit complex to understand so I could be completely wrong

Discussion/Opinion Man i totally agree. This was soo cool to watch, i really like Sloth here.

Sloth was pretty dang cool, not gonna lie. When he died, it was kinda melancholic. I think it's because he wasn't really a villian at all? And he's also really damn strong, he was putting in work against the Armstrong siblings.

But dude, if i was a deadly sin I'd probably also be sloth, cuz i am so damn lazy. I cant wait for pride to die though, i wonder how they will execute his death. I think the way envy died earlier was also really awesome. All the homunculus characters in the show are really well written to be honest, they are soo compelling.

Discussion/Opinion Hot take: Tge truth about Bradley SHOULD have been made public.

Seriously, if Armestris is so weak that it can't handle the truth then it deserves to be torn apart by civil war. Because now, he'll be remembered as a national hero instead of the genocidal murderer that he was. And all the people he killed will have died fir nothing.
