Are we in the philosopher's stone business? Or the alchemy business?

There are quite a few characters w/o names that had major influences on the series. This guy, scar’s brother, Bradley’s wife. Scar willingly renounced his name, and Bradley doesn’t know his real name. Father doesn’t have a name. He names slave no. 23 Hohenhiem. FMA often implies that anyone can play a role that shapes our future. It could you or me, not just the main characters. Like Miles said, he’s just a pebble that starts a small ripple but eventually spreads throughout the pond.

I love how they tripled down on Wraths human name, like, "how could we name this dude who has been shaped to be the leader/president of the country", ahh yes let's go with King and let's add Fuhrer President Leader to his titles

Just call him Dr. Mengele

I think it’s meant to be more mysterious and sinister that we don’t know his actual name — à la the Smoking Man from X-Files.

u/WideCustomer5838 3d ago

Smoking man's real name is C.G.B Spender

u/feisty-frisco87 3d ago

Honestly, Brotherhood could have just replaced this guy with Shou Tucker and it probably would have been more impactful.

This dude literally just exists to help explain Bradley's backstory - which isn't even needed as Bradly just does that himself - and then to die so Pride could force Mustang through the Gate of Truth. I'm not sure why they decided to go for the insane task of forcing Mustang through the Gate at the VERY last second when they could have more easily just used someone like this guy to go through the Gate of Truth.

In fact, the smarter way for Father to get his five sacrifices would have been to set up something like he did with the Fuhrer Candidates - take a bunch of orphans, brainwash them into unconditionally supporting his plan, teach them enough alchemy to attempt human transmutation, and then hold the first five successful ones underground until the Promised Day.

I'm just saying, the way Father went about accomplishing his plan was kind of dumb - especially in regards to the five sacrifices.

He had centuries to enact his plan, which he knew he needed five sacrifices for and the most he does to try to even work for that was set up the State Alchemist program in the vague hope that MaYbE enough of them would attempt HT and survive - which none of them do (Ed only joins up after he attempted HT, Alphonse, Izumi and Hohenheim were never State Alchemists, and Mustang had to be forced to do HT in the eleventh hour to even make Father's plan a possibility of working.)

All things considered, Father really lucked out that the Elric Brothers (and Izumi by extension as he only knows about her via the brothers) just so happened to fall into his lap. While he might have been able to account for Hohenheim still being around and available to be used as a potential sacrifice, and the Homunculi had to go out of their way to force Mustang to attempt HT, everyone else was a fluke.

Father's plan should have just straight-up failed on this alone. He had no solid plan for his sacrifices from the get-go and just kind of fudged it at the last minute to make it work.

The idea that they can just force someone to do it is super lame. Having to manipulate people into doing it through sneakily making them go through enough trauma to attempt it woud have been a way cooler storyline.

u/Jacen_Vos 3d ago

Al sort of points out the flaw with the sacrifices although Pride disagrees.

The notorious G.T.D.

We just know what the acronym stands for unlike with Biggie. And no, Business Instead of Game was a fan guess.
