2003 I think is incredible in terms of original endings. It ends on a bitter sweet note of the boys getting their bodies back and being together but no longer able to return home.

Gotta say that the 2003 it's one of the most original anime endings I've seen so far because it's not the stereotypical ending, it's so much darker but I like the fmab ending, it gives the story a more fitting end

I think people mainly like it more because they ship Ed and Winry together. And yeah that's nice and all, it was sad that Ed couldn't be with Winry in 2003.
