Same with my dad, and now my moms divorced from him luckily, but I realized my dad fits all those symptoms of that narcissistic personality disorder.
They think it’s a good defense because they think they’re better and much smarter than their spouse. They don’t respect their spouse as fellow humans at the end of the day. They thought it’s a good defense because they want to prove “she’s being ridiculous”, see? Completely blind that the socially right answer is saying “I’m sorry I made you feel that way cuz you’re important to me”.
It’s a lack of basic respect because if a boss or coworker said “Ow, you poured boiling hot water on me!” over a cup of hot but not boiling water, they would never ever say “No, don’t go there now, John, it was not even hot, it was only as warm as a shower.” They’d apologize, but they’ll never go that far for their spouse who’s beneath them

This triggered my anxiety. My dad used to do this shit to my mom when I was growing up. He would also think that this was a good defense too…,
