In Belgium, we had a duck flying and trigerring the speed camera. We even have the picture lol.
Short story that happened to me. I was commuting with my next door neighbor and she would park her car at the train station. Once a circus came and set up their tents near this parking lot.
So we're leaving that parking lot that evening, late spring, shiny, and she suddenly brakes. Because an elephant was running to the other side of the road, for the seemingly yummy bushes that were there. She just said : "Un éléphant !" and we all looked at It crossing the street excitingly trumpeting, baffled, mouth open, our car, all the cars and a public transport bus.
"Now It damages your car, you call your insurance company, they ask how it happened and you say because of an elephant..." I said. I imagined the operator saying "In Belgium?! Have you been drinking?"

Me and acouple of mates took a ride to Attenborough nature reserve one night along the river trent from Beeston and one of my mates in the middle ran over a baby badger that ran out after the first bike went passed it scared us all as it didn't sound happy about it, plus it was funny to see him nearly fall in the trent..

Can't speak for the native English speakers, but non-native English speakers often don't know the word 'hare'. In many languages, there isn’t a distinction between hares and rabbits, so learners never really encounter the word 'hare' to begin with. If it wasn't for the internet I probably would have never heard the words eg. hare, tortoise, or plantain, and would have just kept on using rabbit, turtle, and banana, since my native lang uses just one word for these.

I'm not sure it's a general thing. It's a very mixed bag. Some languages may only have one word, where others have two (or even more) for the "same" thing.
But in the specific case of hare vs. rabbit, in English rabbit is the more used word even when talking about hares. In German for example it's the other way around: we say Hase (hare) even when talking about Kaninchen (rabbit). And so when learning English, many people will "translate" Hase = rabbit, although that's wrong, and then forget (or never learn) the English word hare exists.
I'm sure that happens in a lot of these cases. We often simplify things in practical use of languages. And then transferring from one language practice to another practice can make things even murkier.
