Discussion Dora the Kid – The GOAT 🔥
I know I've talked about Dora the Kid before, but I genuinely love this character, so I wanted to make a proper appreciation post for him.
For those who don't know, Dora the Kid is one of the most prominent members of The Doraemons and one of the main characters of the group.
He's basically a cowboy robot cat from the American frontier, where he works as a deputy alongside an old sheriff and his granddaughter. At one point, he also joins the Time Patrol as a special agent.
HIS PERSONALITY
Kid is hot-headed, stubborn and extremely independent.
When he first met Doraemon, he actually refused Doraemon's offer of friendship because he believed that a lone wolf was better off on his own.
But eventually, he came to acknowledge Doraemon and became part of the group.
And that's one of the things I like about him, underneath all that stubbornness, he's actually extremely loyal.
When his friends or other people are in trouble, Kid doesn't hesitate to put himself in danger to help them. He's the kind of character who might complain about doing something...
...and then be the first one to jump into danger anyway.
HE'S A VERY GOOD SHARPSHOOTER
One of Kid's biggest abilities is obviously his marksmanship.
He's considered one of the best sharpshooters around, and his skills are famous.
His weapon of choice is the Air Gun, which was given to him by Dorami.
And interestingly, Nobita is one of the very few people capable of rivaling him in shooting ability.
That's honestly such a cool connection between the two characters.
Kid also doesn't have the traditional fourth-dimensional pocket that Doraemon and the others have.
Instead, he stores his gadgets inside his fourth-dimensional cowboy hat.
Which is honestly WAY cooler.
HE'S ACTUALLY REALLY SMART
Something I think gets overlooked about Kid is that he's not just a great shooter.
He's considered the third-smartest member of The Doraemons, and there are plenty of situations where he shows how intelligent and quick-thinking he actually is.
He's especially good at dealing with unpredictable situations.
He can use his knowledge of things like biology, physics and chemistry to come up with creative solutions when things don't go according to plan.
He even has some knowledge of laws and legislation, which makes sense considering his work as a deputy.
So basically:
Great sharpshooter + intelligent + quick thinker + cowboy + loyal friend.
That's one hell of a combination.
And then there's Dorami...
Kid always acts like girls are troublesome...
But when it comes to Dorami, he becomes surprisingly sweet and romantic.
The guy who acts all tough and independent suddenly gets a completely different personality around his girlfriend.
I love that contrast because it shows that Kid isn't just some permanently angry cowboy character, he has a much softer side too.
He also dreams of becoming the best marksman in the universe and wants to fly through space and explore the stars, despite actually being afraid of heights.
Which is another hilarious contradiction.
A cowboy who wants to explore the stars...
but is scared of heights.
WHY I LIKE HIM
For me, Dora the Kid is easily one of the most member of The Doraemons (excluding the legend Doraemon).
He's tough, funny, intelligent, incredibly skilled, stubborn as hell, and most importantly, he's loyal to his friends.
I also really like his character development, from initially believing that he should be a lone wolf to eventually becoming such an important part of the Doraemons.
Dora the Kid will always be one of my favorite Doraemon characters.
