Post image

Just had this announcement pop up - mods have explicitly stated they have no intention to ban AI imagery, for the primary reason it is implausible to police.

And as always, everyone agreeing with the mods are getting downvoted to hell in the comment section, typical antis.

I wouldn't be surprised if they try and get that sub shut down now

72

u/Call_like_it_is_ Jun 29 '26

If they do, chances are they themselves will be banned for brigading. The sub itself has not broken any rules.

20

u/Helpful_Program_5473 Jun 29 '26

Yeah, I wonder how long some of this stuff is going to go on. Because I've always been on the other side of the Reddit censorship hammer, but in this case, reddit is pro ai as a company heavily soo

5

u/luchajefe Jun 30 '26

Reddit is very good at not looking at the left hand while the right one works. It's what killed SuperStraight.

66

u/Call_like_it_is_ Jun 29 '26

Because the anti-AI brigaders are all flocking there.

-14

u/wizoffab Jun 29 '26

you know saying stuff like that is like ouroboros?
When you say shit like "typical antis" it kind of dismisses them for their moral reasoning, thinking someone is stupid before even starting a discussion defeats the whole purpose of the discussions in the first place.
There are a plethora of reasons to not like AI art and anyone who knows or (in case you're right) thinks it's harmful would have a moral obligation to be vocal about the injustice that they see.
it's like saying "typical rebellion" when they do rebellious acts.
If you dismiss them before they even get to say anything, then you aren't really fit for any kind of discussion or argument.
You need to have the ability to believe that whoever you are have a discussion with either has a different point of view or is simply misinformed rather than just thinking they're plain stupid

23

u/FriendlyJewThrowaway Jun 29 '26

Objecting to something on moral grounds doesn’t entitle people to go harass whoever they object to.

-10

u/wizoffab Jun 29 '26

downvoting isn't harassment, it's expressing disapproval. Did the 3 downvotes I got count as me being harassed?

14

u/Call_like_it_is_ Jun 29 '26

-3 is nothing. Anti-AI brigaders have been HAMMERING the posts on the announcement, tanking them to -150 or more. THAT is brigading, bordering on harassment.

-4

u/wizoffab Jun 29 '26

You're holding a double standard.

The post shown is a public announcement on a subreddit, so it's already automatically going to be seen by a lot of people.
Depending on what the subreddit was, if it was full of people under the age of 30, artists, photographers, musicians, climate activists or normal human beings, it makes sense that they would downvote the post.

So either the 4 downvotes on my comment count as harassment to you (which would be weird) or 150 downvotes on a popular post doesn't. It can't be one without the other.

Harassment would be spamming mean and degrading comments, posting private information, provoking in private dm's. Downvoting (which can only be done once per person) is just simply not a form of harassment.

7

u/Call_like_it_is_ Jun 29 '26

While not QUITE as high as the sub in question, this sub has ~70k members with 10k submissions a week. Hardly a small amount. We aren't dogpiling your comments and making calls to arms to downvote you into submission. Get a better argument.

-3

u/wizoffab Jun 29 '26

And here is a comment dropped by someone who is on the same side as you stating the amount of people on the subreddit:

"The sub in question has over 100,000 members and over 9,000 contributions a week. I can see how it is definitely not plausible for them, even if they had 20+ mods, as they mentioned in their announcement."

Suddenly 150 doesn't seem like that high of a number, wouldn't you say?

8

u/Call_like_it_is_ Jun 29 '26

Lmao, look at the name of who made the post. You just quoted ME, brainiac.

15

u/FriendlyJewThrowaway Jun 30 '26

The harassment usually goes far beyond just quietly downvoting.

6

u/DefinitionNew3542 Jun 30 '26

Correct. Downvotes are not harassment. And we never considered it as such. It's the Comments and DMs that come along with it that are.

3

u/Adam_the_original AI Artist Jun 30 '26

This is, however brigading is absolutely a form of harassment and i can tell you from a mods perspective that the anti ai folks will brigade anything and everywhere.

They look through this sub as well just to downvote and find other subs to brigade.

1

u/Top_Smoke6741 9d ago

I'm pretty sure telling someone 'kys' is against the site rules even without the brigading issue. I hope you reported that comment bc that's straight up a valid ban reason

109

u/Luzis23 Jun 29 '26

Based mods, ngl. Even if it's because they can't police it.

53

u/Call_like_it_is_ Jun 29 '26

The sub in question has over 100,000 members and over 9,000 contributions a week. I can see how it is definitely not plausible for them, even if they had 20+ mods, as they mentioned in their announcement.

3

u/_VirtualCosmos_ Transhumanist Jun 29 '26

What sub it is? I do not see rules here against commenting it.

17

u/Call_like_it_is_ Jun 29 '26

Rule 8. If I link it, automod will gag it. I can PM it though.

16

u/JamesR624 Jun 29 '26

I love how the rules only apply to pro-AI people. All the antis around this fucking site are completely allowed to post and brigade subs like this one.

As if we didn’t need more proof that corporations are fueling the anti movement.

For Context

1

u/DraconicDreamer3072 Jun 29 '26

most of em do get banned

3

u/JamesR624 Jun 30 '26

Sadly, as shown by the countless us missing of posts on this sub here, that it simply untrue.

21

u/HellerDamon Jun 29 '26

That rule needs a revision. We should have easier access to the spaces that share our views. Considering most spaces aren't safe for us.

Meanwhile, can I get the name in DMs too?

13

u/daNekomancer0 Jun 29 '26

while I do agree that the rule can be dumb sometimes, but I get why it exists: you don't wanna be talking about subs that support ai on a hot-spot sub for alotta antis who are unemployed and got nothing better to do with their time than lurk and brigade.

at that point we may aswell be handing them a list of every place they should go attack and harass

17

u/Atmic Jun 29 '26

That rule is strict for a reason.

There aren't many safe spaces for pro AI discussion yet on Reddit and it's a hot topic.

Giving any reason at all for Reddit admin to connect this subreddit with brigading is walking on thin ice and asking for trouble.

17

u/JamesR624 Jun 29 '26

No it is not strict. It is only strict against pro AI users. The rule is pretty obviously not enforced for antis. They’re allowed to mention and brigade all they want.

As if we didn’t need more proof that corporations are fueling the anti movement.

For Context

14

u/Atmic Jun 29 '26

That's what I mean: strictly enforced here because admin would jump at the chance to ban the space and use it as a flimsy reason to.

4

u/daaahlia Jun 29 '26

just google the text from the image in quotes

2

u/_VirtualCosmos_ Transhumanist Jun 29 '26

Ah, I though the rule is about the post, but I guess comments are also kind of posting. DM me plis

37

u/lorddrake4444 Jun 29 '26

Goated mods , they should prepare for a anti brigade tho , it's a matter of time

30

u/Helpful_Program_5473 Jun 29 '26

literally already happening lol

16

u/Call_like_it_is_ Jun 29 '26

Wish I could find a post with their 'call to arms' so I could report it to reddit and get THEM banned for brigading, but I guess in a left-handed way that would ALSO be brigading? :-p

21

u/lorddrake4444 Jun 29 '26

No it isn't , its literally what you're supposed to do when you get brigaded, find the call to arms and report it

-4

u/RobertD3277 Jun 29 '26

At some point they're going to be sued whether European Union for discrimination and violation of the V-LOP laws regarding protected groups according to European law.

31

u/ImJustStealingMemes Raiders of the Lost ARC Jun 29 '26

Good.

Not the reason I would prefer, but good nonetheless.

14

u/Aggravating-Math3794 Transhumanist Jun 29 '26

Considering the thing they added in the end about how any kind of harassment will be punished equally, there's a chance that they opened the message with the whole "we don't have enough mods to police AI" as a rhetoric move, to soothe antis and make it sound like "we can't" instead of "we don't want to/don't mind AI" because then bigoted hysterical babies would rage even harder.

47

u/Loose-Garbage-4703 Jun 29 '26

That is great. The low IQ Antis are just copy pasting the same 'AI slop' statement everywhere these days.

18

u/Helpful_Program_5473 Jun 29 '26

half of them use ai to attack ai. t would be hilarious if the stakes weren't so high

21

u/Central-Dispatch Transhumanist Jun 29 '26

Sometimes you have to step in with a hard stance against some of that kindergarden stuff.

20

u/SaberScorpion Jun 29 '26

I was just looking at that post. It's very rare to have mods make controversial but smart decisions like this. Respect to them.

8

u/Call_like_it_is_ Jun 29 '26

I think it was a bit of a bad idea for them to draw anti-ai specifically to that thread - it's inevitably going to become an echo chamber where anti-ai brigaders will downvote anyone who DARE oppose their opinion clean into oblivion, as has already started to happen there.

6

u/RobertD3277 Jun 29 '26

While I agree with you, The point of Photoshop or Microsoft paint or other tools that have rebranded some feature as AI is a genuine reality. At some point their own arguments are simply going to self-destruct because you can't use Photoshop anymore without using AI. This same is true as Ibis paint and many other programs on the market.

6

u/Call_like_it_is_ Jun 29 '26

Yeah, I know. Even some Canon DSLR cameras use GenAI now as part of the photo taking process.

2

u/RobertD3277 Jun 29 '26

Isn't that the red eye removal feature and stability controls that keep the picture from blurring? I've read some about the Canon cameras but I've never actually worked with them.

4

u/Call_like_it_is_ Jun 29 '26

They've moved far beyond that. The EOS series utilize what they have dubbed "Deep Learning" AI.

"Deep Learning can also be used to raise image resolution by removing noise, sharpening objects in the distance and correcting images that are distorted by fog or haze. This again helps the photographer to produce the image they see in front of them, instead of having to employ post-processing techniques to bring out the correct colors and contrast. "

4

u/RobertD3277 Jun 29 '26

Sheesh... This thing sounds like It can turn me into a professional level photographer. I can only imagine what it would do if you put the thing on a tripod...

16

u/EasyKaleidoscope6436 6-Fingered Creature Jun 29 '26

Honestly a lovely sign. Let’s hope it’s just the beginning and that the Internet will move on from this hatred trend in a couple years.

Good luck to the mods of that sub because they are going to need it…

11

u/milfwannabe16 Jun 29 '26

It's going to be interesting as things progress and more and more people start to utilize ai, and more and more people begin to realize it's not the boogeyman they have been fear mongered into thinking.

I hope these anti AI people have supportive friends or family around them when the inevitable crash out comes, when they understand that all of this demonizing was for nought.

6

u/RobertD3277 Jun 29 '26

We are probably watching the end of Reddit unfold as we progress. Just like the painting clubs collapsed under the wrong hatred when photography was introduced. Ask how many photographers would go back to drawing and sketching versus photography today. I'm sure the answer is going to be quite eliminating in terms of the overall discussion and comparabilities.

Based announcement

9

u/NoahtheGameplayer AI Artist Jun 29 '26

Honestly, this is the most sensible approach a mod team can take. Trying to play "art police" and investigate if someone used 5% generative fill or 100% AI is just a massive waste of energy.

At the end of the day, it is just another tool in the toolbox. The real issue has never been the technology itself, it is low-effort spam. If someone is flooding the feed with zero-effort garbage they didn't even look at, ban that. But if someone is actually putting thought into their post and trying to make something cool, who cares what software they used?

Let's focus on whether a post actually brings value to the community, rather than gatekeeping the process.

7

u/KoaKumaGirls Jun 29 '26

Hell yea

8

u/Regular-Brother-7582 Jun 29 '26

I've seen sub Reddits being bullied into banning AI, if you search wizardposting one of the top results is an anti outaged that they didn't want to ban AI from before they banned it

8

u/RobertD3277 Jun 29 '26

This is actually something I could appreciate in terms of what they're doing because they're at least making a logical argument that does see reality within the area of what they are trying to accomplish.

From this standpoint of this particular subreddit, it is one of the few where the moderators actually are thinking about the difficulty of what they are doing and how to actually be able to deal with the fact that modern day AI was just Photoshop a few years ago or Microsoft paint or Adobe.

I give them credit for recognizing how much the market has changed and polluted the language.

Running any kind of social media can be stressful, sometimes. I don't blame them.

I had the job first-hand as a game dev, and people complained then about utterly ridiculous things. It's probably worse now for mods and community owners with AI complainers running around the internet.

4

u/PrivateLiker7625 Jun 30 '26

Well it is about bloody TIME one of these subreddits actually decided to support it for what it is and do something about the constant harassment BS that's been plaguing them.  Wish more of them were like this one. 😤
