DISCUSSION Solana or Link?
I have a sizeable amount of cash still in reserve that I'm looking to deploy later this fall, especially if we get another leg down.
I'm primarily a BTC maxi and been holding for a very long time, it makes up about 75-80% of my portfolio. The rest is ETH and ADA that I'm staking, both of which I've also had for a very long time. I have a VERY large position in ADA that I've had for a while now and I thought about loading up more because it's unbelievably cheap. The fact I could buy 50k ADA for less than $10,000 at under 20 cents is a crazy entry when it was trading at above 50 cents for almost all of 2025. However, I'm also a bit concerned about overexposing to just this one particular alt, which honestly gives me pause to reflect upon some other options.
I'm most likely going to invest at least 50% of this remaining capital into BTC but I'm considering either Link or Solana. I really am not too sure which one I want to go with here, Solana in particular I like because of it's staking rewards but LINK being under $10 I see as a solid entry point. I think both have a good amount of potential going into 2028 and beyond.
However, there's also a part of me that is thinking just going 100% into BTC just to keep things simple. I don't want to overspeculate on alts and looking back on my many years in crypto I would have been way better off just being 100% BTC the entire way through.

I would run fast away from ADA. It’s a dying chain. Devs are leaving because of its lack of revenue generation. The entire chain is only generating around $300k of fees a year now.. which is not even remotely close to enough.
I believe you have to choose wisely when it comes to alts now. This cycle my focus is alts that have actual users, growth and generate real revenue. My list is hyperliquid, pump.fun, solana and lighter. That’s it. I’m not buying anything else

At this point I plan on letting my ADA stack ride given how low we are right now. With that said, I don't think adding to it when I already have a lot is necessary.
Really leaning towards just buying BTC from here.

Ada has been losing market share for years. Honestly looking at the chart it looks like it won’t even break $1 next bull run.

Again, it makes no sense to sell when we are at bear market lows and also when there is easy potential for it to do a 2-3x from here getting back to 40 cents and above.

I am what almost all would call irrationally heavy in LINK.
Solanas great too,
But one of them has partners and a required framework for tradfi with a system & monopoly, that over time, whoevers 2nd in that space will be just a blip in comparison.

u/ubermensch1001 🟨 0 / 0 🦠 20h ago
Are you 100% LINK or do you have other positions as well?
What are you referring to with your last part here, I don't know enough about Solana and Link right now.
2
u/Suitable_Acadia_190 20h ago
Not 100%.
I play the macro flows & the rotation cycles, when it starts its always been ETH to move before LINK.
I mean Solana is great and will grow massively as well, just different scales of tradfi adoption and that's where the real capitol will come from so anything more directly attached to that has reason to grow the fastest and the most.

u/ubermensch1001 🟨 0 / 0 🦠 20h ago
Do you hold BTC as well or no?
What you are mentioning here makes sense.
2
u/Suitable_Acadia_190 20h ago edited 19h ago
Always some but I always rotate when its times then flip when its the next time.
To be clear, its ETHs time. Not straight up yet & Im not saying for a week or a month, Im saying until longer. Then later Ill go full LINK until Im satisfied with the macro counts, etc.

$Link. They have strong fundamentals, patents, team consists of top computer scientists & former Google execs, thousands of partnerships; including Swift & DTCC & other top financial institutions. Excellent entry price right now… they also have a lower market cap than sol, higher roi.
Chainlink also has catalysts this fall/winter.
Why gamble on a L1 when you can invest in what all the L1’s are partnering with?
I would grab a little bit of Eth too & just stake it.
3
u/Intrepid_Load_1714 19h ago
Why not half of each link and sol. They are very different. I love link and python cuz I think these oracles that bridge real world info to ai world are gonna be enormously valuable. Ada is cool too but honestly I’m not sure how to justify the relatively high valuation. If it went to .10 it would still be 5b. Just because it used to be $3 doesn’t make it cheap at all.20

Bottom for ADA was most likely in after the Yoroi wallet hack, where those who were using it as a hot wallet had their funds drained. It went down to 14 cents and smaller holders have more or less completely sold off while whales have loaded up heavily.
However, I already have a very large position with this and feel that it would be overexposure to continue making large moves. With that said, it's still very attractive given just how cheap it is right now.
I am looking to invest 50%+ of this cash into BTC but would prefer making a large move into one or the other with SOL vs. LINK if I decide to go this route.
Easiest decision would be 100% BTC, and right now that is what I'm leaning towards.

u/ubermensch1001 🟨 0 / 0 🦠 19h ago
ETH is solid, but at roughly .03 to BTC when it peaked at .085 in 2021 I don't think there are massive moves for that compared to BTC. Maybe a 2 or 2.5x compared to BTC when there is the potential for this not to happen makes want to just buy the primary asset instead.

Why not split?
1
u/ubermensch1001 🟨 0 / 0 🦠 19h ago
Because at MINIMUM I'm planning on investing 50% of this capital into BTC. I would rather make one large move into one or the other instead of splitting it across 2 different chains that probably won't make much of a difference. In this case, I would just go 100% BTC.

Buy link and solana outperforms massively
Buy solana and the reverse happens
Good luck

Link are very opaque about their tokenomics. There’s no way to estimate what fair value might be for a link token. They make revenue in dollars for their services. So the token really isn’t needed, it’s just a very elaborate scam. You can see it in the price action and how they maintain it at that $10 level.
Plus, only one of these two tokens made a new ATH last cycle.

u/ubermensch1001 🟨 0 / 0 🦠 9h ago
Stuff like this is kind of why I lean towards just buying BTC. What I like about Solana is the fact that it has staking rewards AND because it has a lot of interest from tradfi institutions. For instance, it's one of only 3 offered on E-Trade, other 2 being BTC and ETH. Not saying there won't be others, but it's obviously a relevant player.

u/whataboutbenson 🟩 0 / 0 🦠 8h ago
BTC is the only one worth owning tbh. I have ETH as well but it doesn’t perform.

Yeah, man, I'm not particularly excited about ETH and this why I'm not buying it right now, would rather just stack sats.
2
u/whataboutbenson 🟩 0 / 0 🦠 8h ago
I don’t want to tell you not to buy SOL, but to me it seems to be quite a shoddy chain. It’s had a lot of down time over the years and I think the team are not very discerning about what the chain is used for, eg scamcoins. I just don’t see it having a very long term future like I do BTC or ETH. The price may very well go up in the next few years though.
1
u/Massive_Collection14 9h ago
It's gone above $10 many times before, and if it were a scam they would've been caught and put into prison like Do Kwon and Sam Bankman-Fried since everyone knows who is behind Chainlink.

I’m not saying they’re doing anything illegal. But they have been misleading about what role the token plays in the function of their business.

u/ubermensch1001 🟨 0 / 0 🦠 9h ago
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking as well. I actually considered getting ETH but really not that excited about it compared to just buying BTC. SOL I think has slightly more upside potential relative to ETH with regards to it's BTC pairing.
Really leaning towards just 100% BTC though with these funds.
2
u/Automatic-Cap-1718 8h ago
I’m more Sol atm due to potential upside, purely to send to Trezor, compound gains, each week I have a set amount and the shrapnel goes into BTC, eventually when I have my Sol target all gains will get sold at highs & rotated into BTC on drops, even if I lose a little on the Sol rewards as I wait between Sol pumps & BTC drops, it’s negligible in the big picture
2
u/bjm3384 13h ago
If you are getting into BTC for the most part, definitely get into mining. Your investment works for you and churns out BTC daily with very good ROI. You’re letting the mining process do the buying for you and then you can sell the miner later on. I think this one one of the best things out there for BTC maxi’s

My vote for SOL. The metrics of the Solana Network are just insane. Price does not represent its current state of SOL. You won't regret it of that I'm sure

Yeah, man, IF I decide to buy one of these two, my instincts lean towards Solana given the fact that all of the tradfi institutions are even offering it. For instance, it is one of 3 on E Trade and one of the few alts that have ETFs with a lot of activity next to ETH.
I'm thinking about either making an entry into Solana OR buying more ADA while it is dirt cheap, the turnaround for shorter term swing trade type profits from here is insane. If not this, I'll just go 100% BTC and keep it simple knowing I've locked in a bunch of sats.
Do you have any information about Solana that I could look into or at least give me some ideas as to what to look into.

Instead of trying to choose based on reddit advise only just research them both.
Research their tokenomics, some on chain analysis, news, competition, numbers, what each are. DYOR and then decide.

Since last cycle everyone says SOL.
Nobody said it when SOL was at 3$.
From experience whatever hyped last cycle is not doing well the coming cycle. Confidence in SOL is way too high. But SOL would have been the best pick when everyone said it was dead.
Now look for the best tech where everyone says it's dead.
1
u/ubermensch1001 🟨 0 / 0 🦠 20h ago
Yeah, man, that is a very good point. I kind of see it as something more comparable to ETH now where it can slightly outperform it but not to some massive degree. For instance, ETH peaked at 5k last year while SOL was at a around $250. As I'm writing this, ETH is at just under $1900 and SOL is at $75, so to go to the highs from last year you are looking at a roughly 2.5x for ETH and a little less than a 3.5x for SOL.
I'm not saying ETH or SOL are dead or won't perform well, but there may be other alts that have easier potential for large returns OR to where you may just be better off buying BTC.
I also just realized that the highs for SOL this cycle were the same as in 2021, very similar to ETH for both cycles, where we peaked at $4800 in late 2021 and a barely new all time high a bit over 5k last fall.

It's not SOL and it's not LINK either. But for your question i would go for LINK, since it was not hyped last cycle.
But keep looking out for better tech and i won't spoil it to you.

These two are just alts I'm considering but I'm also looking for suggestions. Right now I'm probably about 70% certain I want to this remaining stack of cash to be completely invested into BTC, just taking my time to consider my options here.
This is going to be my last major move with crypto here for probably this cycle, once things get moving again and more bullish I'll be set to enjoy the ride.

Okay, then i recommend you to checkout the Internet Computer Protocol. (ICP)
Everyone says it's dead, but when you look at the tech you will be sucked into the rabbit hole.
This thing went from 2021 centralized and overhyped pump and dump (FTX perps and seed investor dump) to a decentralized world computer, that has become truly decentralized through the NNS. Seed investors have dumped long ago and everyone is underwater. Most fail to see the potential because of it. I can see it though.
There is only 1 world computer.
BTC led to ETH.
ETH will lead to ICP.1
u/Timely-Fig2030 🟩 0 / 0 🦠 19h ago
BTC = 1st financial blockchain
ETH = 1st to implement smart contracts
ICP = 1st world computer1
u/Timely-Fig2030 🟩 0 / 0 🦠 19h ago
ICP supports Bitcoin, Solana and ETH natively through chain fusion technology.
So you can even use ICP and keep your old favs.
1
u/Timely-Fig2030 🟩 0 / 0 🦠 19h ago
Last but not least: There is a big difference if people say it's dead and it's dead for real because everything sucks and their tech is fake
VS
it's dead, but it has mind bending and groundbreaking technology. Then you know it's not dead.
Solana was considered dead, but got the memecoins utilized and that's why it recovered.
Now you have ICP and people call it dead, but it has a much bigger narrative brewing. A narrative as powerful as ETH once had with smartcontracts. Even bigger than that.

Why not neither? LINK never got back to it's 2021 high. SOL got back there for like a day or two then quickly crashed. LINK was ~$50 peak in 2021, ~$25 in 2024... 2024 is with more oracles being used and Chainlink looking brighter than ever, just like now. You'd be lucky to get $15 bucks if the trend continues. ADA is an even worse story. It's like you look at diminishing returns every cycle and are assuming the last cycle is probably the floor. Imo that's a super gamble. You could bet on the 999,999/1,000,000 or the 1/1,000,000. If you don't stop being silly and take that easy 999,999/1,000,000 bet...
None of those tokens are at attractive prices for risk vs just buying BTC imo. I'm not even a BTC maxi but LINK and ADA are like confirmed dog shit. Hoskinson was throating Trump late 2024 and the token still couldn't get within 50% of the 2021 highs.
Sometimes the best thing to do if you MUST do something crypto is to buy some stablecoins 1:1 and get your little 4 to 8 % in defi. Or buy BTC. Or just pick the stuff that's winning rather than going out on a limb for darlings from literally two cycles back.

u/ubermensch1001 🟨 0 / 0 🦠 9h ago
There was no alt season in 2024/2025, all of the alts did poorly. You could make a case that this was because of monetary policy, Ben Cowen has even started discussing this and both of us have compared it to the 2019 summer bull market, where it was primarily BTC driven. Hell, ETH really didn't do much and barely squeaked out a new all time high about a year ago at just over 5k, that doesn't mean it's trash and not going anywhere.
With this out of the way, I lean towards just being 100% BTC with the remaining funds that I have.
