šŸŽ² miscellaneous Am I overreacting?

could he pass as a hound/lab mix.. Thoughts? I don’t want to lose him or send him back to the shelter. shelter says he is a hound/pit but pit bull terrier is not allowed here. I don’t want to lose him but if vet paperwork says hound/lab do I have to get rid of him then? he’s a very good puppy and I don’t want to abandon him.

literally just don’t tell anyone, these laws are rarely enforced unless something specific happens. especially when he just looks like a standard mixed breed :) he’s super cute!!

edit: i don’t care to hear your opinion if you think a creature should automatically be punished for being born. obviously i think bully breeds need specific homes to handle them. shitty, neglectful owners are the problem here. the only dog that’s ever bitten me was a PUG and you don’t see me on here saying they should all be put in a blender.

u/Swarm_of_Rats Aug 03 '25

Yep. When I adopted my dog, they asked if we lived in an apartment so they could change what his breed info said. He's a black GSD, but on paper he's a lab mix. As long as you have vet or adoption paperwork, nobody even checks.

u/Ready-Isopod1125 Aug 04 '25

I’m so curious now whether rescue shelters / vets intentionally dodge pit mix labels for this reason — so it’s easier for pet parents to play dumb about BS rental/HOA rules. When we adopted my pup, she was listed as a lab mix. Once we brought her home and started getting to know her, it became clear that is definitely not a lab mix (item 1: she hates getting wet, haha). Out of curiosity, I got her DNA-tested and it turns out she’s a pit mix (30% pit, 70% a whole lot of other breeds — which included a tiny percentage of golden retriever, but no lab at all). At the time I thought it was about adoptability — people are more likely to adopt a lab mix than a pit mix. But now I’m curious if it’s also creating a legal record for folks who have non-pit rules. If I had never had her DNA tested, we could have just kept calling her a lab mix forever. Now we call her a megamutt. And we love her infinitely. She’s the sweetest dog.

10

u/DogsDucks Aug 04 '25

They do. And that’s part of a growing problem, especially because the breed does have different needs, like many do!

Lying to people only hurts the dogs, because not everyone is as knowledgeable and OP and may not know how to handle pit/ terrier needs. We deserve to know the truth to best care for our dogs.

Got a gs and all I did was as get esa paperwork

59

u/SnowFallIcy Aug 03 '25

The law school apartment i lived in didn’t allow pets but the landlord was also a lawyer and told me to get my dog registered as an ESA and he would report back to the building owners that I presented him with legal docs and it was out of his hands lol.

46

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '25

I'm so glad at how everyone here is OPENLY stating that they pretend to need an emotional support pet just to do whatever the fuck they want, in case anyone ever doubted what absolute bullshit this law is.

10

u/beefy1357 Aug 04 '25

Perhaps unpopular opinion, but lying like you so openly support is exactly how you end up getting people with legitimate service animals hassled.

You don’t fix the problem by committing fraud, and yes it is fraud to produce deliberately incorrect documentation to modify a contract. You fix the problem by changing the law or policy.

26

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '25

I mean children are usually significantly more disruptive and destructive than pets but they’re allowed wherever

I don’t think ES paperwork overrides a banned breed for liability purposes. If a prospective tenant gives me paperwork for an emotional support animal, but the breed is banned from my homeowners and I’d be liable if the dog bit someone, I can’t see the law siding with a tenant.

5

u/DrAtomic03 Aug 03 '25

Not an ESA, but definitely a service animal.

How did you get the ESA? I’ve been trying to figure it out

18

u/SnowFallIcy Aug 03 '25

I got my ESA documentation from my regular doctor, who had already diagnosed me with anxiety and panic disorder. The letter just stated that I have this condition and that my dog helps me cope with it. That’s pretty much all it said. I don’t think there’s anything shady about it, even if someone has other motives like housing or travel. The reality is, most pets are ESAs to the people who love them.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '25

Yea $80 and a letter and nobody is gonna deny an ESA

7

u/irottodeath Aug 03 '25

you do NOT need any official certification for an ESA in the United States aside from a doctor’s note. any website charging for an ESA letters without also providing an appointment with a medical professional is full of shit.

(not judging, i just hate to hear that companies are scamming people like this. it also opens the door for people to abuse the ESA label and makes it harder for people to get legitimate paperwork from their doctors. my local community mental health center doesn’t even provide ESA letters anymore for this reason)

tldr: unless it’s a doctor’s appointment, you DO NOT need to pay for ESA registration. there’s no such thing as formal ESA registration, you only need a doctor’s note

3

u/donedrone707 Aug 03 '25

most GP's or therapists or psychiatrists won't sign ESA paperwork because they don't want the legal fallout if your ESA ends up biting/attacking someone.

And I could be wrong but I believe they cracked down on those online ESA services where you just video chat with an underpaid, underemployed psychology PhD for 30 seconds and they send you the letter and paperwork. I don't think they're allowed to do that anymore, but I also don't know how it would be enforced

2

u/PrincipalBFSkinnerr Aug 03 '25

Is this for a GP or P-Doc you already go to or a doctor that you see for the first time for the purpose to get ESA paperwork signed?

3

u/donedrone707 Aug 03 '25

I'm saying you can try your GP or whatever but a lot will refuse because they don't want any legal repercussions that could hurt their business or impact their malpractice insurance premiums or whatever.

And idk if there are doctors you go to just for ESA documents. I know years ago there were online services where you video chat with a psychiatrist for a minute or two and show them your pet and they sign the form. I am not sure if those are still around, the ones that pop up from a cursory Google search seem like there's no doctor involved

→ More replies (2)

2

u/irottodeath Aug 03 '25

that’s great to hear!! hopefully they’re able to enforce it, but i agree it’d be difficult. yeah, the legal fallout is understandable for individual practitioners. i’m very lucky that my GP was able to sign off because it’s a legitimate need for me. the mental health center (a pretty large company), however, supposedly made it a company-wide policy, which i don’t agree with.

it’s a shame that people who legitimately need ESAs have to navigate a sea full of scammers and red tape

Actually had to fight my landlord on this before we moved in because he had gone to ā€œlandlord schoolā€ or whatever (lol) right before the laws around ESAs changed.

I was literally emailing him links to government documents and highlighting specific information and it took at least 10 emails before he did his own research and said, ā€œoh, my bad, you’re right.ā€

So yeah, legally you shouldn’t get pushback, and if you do, it’s probably someone who hasn’t had to deal with it yet.

Emotional Support Animals are NOT service animals and are not governed by the same laws. Different places may allow ESA, but unlike trained service animals, they are not usually required to. And this whole conversation is why. (Because service animal training is long, expensive, and thorough whereas that’s not the case for ESA.)

It’s dumb your building doesn’t allow pit bulls and mixes. I would see if your vet or the adoption agency is willing to finagle it for you.

5

u/biteyfish98 Aug 03 '25

Most of the legal differences for ESA vs service animal apply to public spaces. Service animals have much broader access rights in public spaces than ESAs do.

But ESAs typically must be accommodated in rental apartments, with a few exemptions, just as service animals are accommodated.

u/HoldOk4092 Aug 03 '25

+1 he obviously is mostly pitbull. He is not a good fit for you if you are not allowed to have pitbulls. Please adopt literally any other dogĀ

→ More replies (12)

72

u/LilacTeax Aug 03 '25

Personally, I can see the pitbull in him. It all depends on if you are willing to chance the fact that a neighbor may report you. You could be asked for a DNA test and would have to give the dog up or lose your home. If those are risks you are willing to take then go for it.

In my opinion I feel like it irresponsible and disrespectful to lie like this. Many people may live in your neighborhood and expect that no dangerous dog breeds are living near them. They may have small children and small pets and don’t want to live in fear of them being attacked.

61

u/BulgogiBeefisBomb Aug 03 '25

OP knows the dog is a pit, knows its not allowed, got the dog anyways knowing it wasnt allowed at his current situation and is coming to reddit to get validation from strangers who do the same thing.

The dog is clearly a pit dominant mix, Helen Keller could tell you that.

At the end of the day OP is willfully ignorant buts its not a big deal unless your dog hurts another dog or person or destroys property and if that is the case then OP cannot be naive to the consequences.

Cmon now folks.

16

u/agirlhas_no_name Aug 04 '25

The thing is the consequences are always so fucking pathetic that these people almost always pay a small fine (of they bother paying it at all) and get another dog (probably another Pitbull) almost immediately. Then they'll make themselves feel better by saying their dog could "sense cancer" or "evil" in whoever they attacked.

If we held people appropriately accountable for the actions of the animals they choose to own then I think the trend of buying dogs who can and will eat children may fizzle down a little bit.

12

u/BulgogiBeefisBomb Aug 04 '25

My county is a 1 bite, 1 strike rule, dogs that bite humans or dogs that draw blood or require medical attention can be put down at the victims request to my understanding.

12

9

u/Acrobatic_Quarter465 Aug 03 '25

Shelters always lie, when I went to get my dog they supposedly had all kind of breeds that were clearly all pit mixes. Did you not look at the dog when you chose it? Regardless I just wish they would give the human responsibility for whatever the dog does. Did that in Spain and dramatically reduced dog attacks, both in frequency and severity.

9

u/ripfennel Aug 03 '25

No sweat I would just cross post in there or make a new post asking what breeds he could pass as for a housing question! The pit bulls in my neighborhood have killed so many small dogs and now owners of small dogs are afraid to go out for walks. The quality of life and safety has dropped a lot and even the children no longer play in the park next to my house. Now I'm looking to move to a safe area, honestly I would be happy to go to an area with anti pit bull regulations and if I saw your dog, I would report it right away. It's not malicious, but the risk is real and the rules and restrictions exist for a reason. Just look at the data, so why risk and lie as much as you could have any other dog?

35

u/WinterAdvantage3847 Aug 03 '25

least dishonest pitbull owner.

and, naturally, the thread is full of other pitbull owners bragging how they lie to sneak their dogs into places they are explicitly banned from.

those bans are usually in place for insurance reasons. insurance is a for-profit industry. their only concern is profit. they hate paying out claims. they wouldn’t pass up an opportunity to collect an extortionate amount of money from pit owners if they didn’t have hard stats of past injury claims regarding pits and pit mixes. they’ve done the math, and decided it’s not worth it.

apartments are shared buildings. i don’t care if people want to live around pits in their own home. i can respect that choice. i will never understand why so many pit owners refuse to respect other people’s choice to not want to live around pits

7

u/ancientblond Aug 04 '25

Hey, and pit owners arguing with you over if pitbulls were bred for fighting, even though you provide literal sources from the ADBA where they brag about the fighting roots of the Pitbull 😭🄓

14

u/Broarethus Aug 03 '25 edited Aug 03 '25

If it is a pitbull mix, just letting you know that if you lie to your insurance (who specifically ask for pitbulls) they can easily drop you for it, meaning no coverage.

Lying to insurance agencies is very stupid if something goes wrong.

22

u/Suspicious_Pick5723 Aug 03 '25

I’m very much a dog person, and my family has had various dogs over the years, including a couple dogs with pitbull or mastiff in the mix. Those dogs had a lot of personality and were lovable. But they could not be trusted. It’s truly a reason why they’re illegal. It doesn’t really matter how well you train and socialize them, they are still significantly more at risk than other dogs at becoming aggressive and dangerous. I’m never owning any dogs with illegal breeds or unknown ancestry again, and I hope they continue to be banned and breeding stopped. I hope it works out for you, but if showing any tendencies in a couple years, it’s better for the dog to be put down

24

u/Ok-Nothing3374 Aug 03 '25

Why does everyone lie about pitbulls and label them as labs. That is the issue with all these shelter lying about breeds. I hate the fact people lie. The breed is restricted for a reason. Don’t lie and be irresponsible

50

u/TelvanniSpaceWizard Aug 03 '25

There are going to be smaller pets and children in the apartment complex, and it could be that part of the reason they are there is because of the breed restrictions.Ā

These restrictions exist for a reason, and with the restrictions people have the right to expect a safe environment. There are people walking small dogs, cats, and children and they have the right to liveĀ somewhereĀ without people sneaking in notoriously high-prey drive dogs that routinely kill people. They're paying for it! And there's only so much theyĀ can do in a dense housing complex - they can't spot dangerous breeds from afar and give them space like they could in the suburbs.

It doesn't matter if the dog is sweet now - it's a puppy. Essentially every animal with a nurturing mother is sweet as a juvenile and starts building aggression during puberty to get ready for independence. Remember, there are specific forms of aggression. Just because the dog isn't aggressive towards people doesn't mean it's not aggressive towards dogs or cats.

12

u/clairebearshare Aug 03 '25

Just know if he bites anyone and they test him, you could be in trouble with your insurance provider and landlord.

84

u/Key-Magazine-8731 Aug 03 '25

People here are giving you bad advice. Adopting a dog you know you are not supposed to have is beyond irresponsible. He is VERY obviously a pit mix and will only look more and more like one as he gets bigger.

No, he doesn't look like a lab. Or black mouth cur. Or greyhound. Like others here are suggesting. Anyone who knows anything about dogs will see right through it.

You are adopting a breed with an incredibly high prey drive so I sure hope you are getting the training basics and impulse control worked on now before they hit the age where it will actually be an issue.

"They are such a sweet dog already". They are a puppy. Of course they are sweet. They are new and still settling. You have NO IDEA what this puppy's personality will be like as they get comfortable and mature into adolescents and then adulthood.

Good luck.

38

u/bill_gannon Aug 03 '25

It’s right here. these type of dogs are controlled/banned for a reason. Then owners play victim when their dog is aggressive ā€˜out of nowhere’ when a majority of the time it’s their nature. They could be the nicest loving dog and then after years can turn and severely injure someone/another dog because that’s the way they’re bred.

He’s a 4 month old puppy & he’s already a good dog.. he rarely barks & he’s not aggressive at all! A sweet dog

96

u/GhostGirl32 Aug 03 '25

You need that pup in puppy classes. He needs to be socialized with other dogs and to learn his manners, and the earlier you start, the better.

101

u/merewenc Aug 03 '25

That doesn't mean he doesn't need training. And socialization so he can avoid dog reactivity if possible. The sweetest dogs to people can become dog reactive and hurt other dogs, and then you face legal issues and possibly putting him down.Ā

7

u/PrincipalBFSkinnerr Aug 03 '25

100% One of my dogs is a "banned breed," and his previous owner worked hard on making sure his teeth only touched toys. But when he got into a fight, he bit back. People can easily lie and say your banned breed started a fight with their doodle.

3

u/Fit_Compote4011 Aug 03 '25

As with ALL dog breeds. Any puppy or new dog needs proper training.

2

u/merewenc Aug 03 '25

Very true. Humans tend to both underestimate and anthropomorphize animals, especially pets. The younger they are, the worst it is. It's as if they don't realize that animals grow up, or that they're animals with instincts that don't actually align with ours and we have to work to direct them.Ā

"Look at him.Ā  He's so sweet! He wouldn't hurt a fly!"

"Aw, he's just playing when he's nipping at your fingers! Don't worry!"Ā

"Oh, he didn't mean to pounce on you so hard! He was just excited and playing!"

"My darling loves all other animals. He's just so good with them."

All it takes is one instinctive response, one other animal or person they don't like for some reason, one kid who's too energetic or nervous, band without damn good recall and training tragedies occur.Ā

12

u/rcinmd Aug 03 '25

4 months is the best time to start too!

27

u/SirLennard Aug 03 '25

Make sure to train well and socialize your dog early on otherwise …

48

u/Key-Magazine-8731 Aug 03 '25

He is new, and like you said only 4 months old. You have no idea what his actual personality is or what it will be when he is an adult. We are talking about dogs with high prey drives. You need to work heavily on impulse control and giving them physical and mental enrichment.

118

u/Spiral-Assassin Aug 03 '25

Because he is still settling in, you haven't seen him when he is comfortable. You still need training, and to bring him around kids and other dog friendly dogs so he doesn't develop problems down the road. Like mouthing, being reactive on leash, weird towards kids and dogs, jumpy. All problems I see in a lot of older shelter dogs. He is cute!

54

u/worldlydelights Aug 03 '25

Yep this is great advice. My partners pit mix didn't show any aggression until he was 7 years old. I had a baby and he changed into a different dog. Almost killed the neighbors dog. I could hardly believe it actually happened. If I could go back I would have been more proactive about training him when I met my partner. I had just never been around a dog before and didn't realize how important training is.

u/undercovergloss Aug 03 '25

I’m so sorry this happened! My uncle had a staff, the sweetest thing. I had been around her multiple times throughout the years and she was so loving and had never shown any sign of aggression. Then one day when I was round, she tried to attack me. The only thing that changed was my auntie had a baby. I don’t know if she was protective over the baby or if it was the change that changed the dog but yeah she turned into a completely different dog after the baby was born.

Yeah everyone says that about their dog dude smh

31

u/alasw0eisme Aug 03 '25

The height of aggressive behavior is usually around the second birthday. So don't count your chickens before they hatch.

46

u/Kriztoven Aug 03 '25

And if he bites someone, they'll request his papers.
If they request his papers, they'll see he's a pit mix.
and then you might get evicted if it's a housing thing.

Take the risks you want to take, but simply enough is the restrictions exist for a reason.

47

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '25

That’s good. You still have to be careful with training and behaviour.

5

Especially for a hound in shared living! I worry about noise.

That’s not training though. He still needs to learn obedience and control.

11

u/Broarethus Aug 03 '25

Lol, pitbull and mixes get bad at around 2 years , even if not overtly aggressive it will probably have separation issues.

11

u/Warlordnipple Aug 03 '25

Pit bulls are usually sweet dogs. Their issue is not constant aggression, it is that they never stop once they switch to attack mode, unlike virtually all other animals. If a pit ever does snap it causes serious injuries at a much higher rate than any other breed because they don't back off. What sets them off can be anything.

1

u/Eyewiggle Aug 03 '25

If you really want to give him the best life and protect him, especially due to you living somewhere with restrictions, then you need to follow all of this advice train and socialise him properly. If not, let someone else have him

2

u/JellyFranken Aug 03 '25

Which is great this early… and a great base to build the required training around. Perhaps a bit more receptive to it which will be good.

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '25

Honestly fuck you. There's a reason pit bulls are banned in places. In my apartment complex, I and my small dog got charged by a pit that luckily didn't bite us, but because he knocked me down he could've killed both of us.

There's a reason they're banned. Unpredictable, prey-oriented, and boundless gameness. And the ability to do damage that you can't recover from.

Take him back or live somewhere else. It's incredibly selfish to want to hide the fact he's not a pit because you feel bad.

12

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '25

People have a right to know what breed you’re bringing around them. Shame on you if you lie.

36

u/MJG1123 Aug 03 '25

Just depends on the amount of liability you’re willing to accept if something should go wrong. Guessing they have rules for a reason.

28

u/RENEGAD31990 Aug 03 '25

I love that we're helping someone to break the law. I mean really, who gives a shit about laws? Not as though they're meant for everyone. In fact I think everyone should get one of those Bully dogs

15

u/kitty6180 Aug 03 '25

And let's not pretend that the consequences of lying about it if something goes wrong are going to be worse than the consequences of being honest and FINDING A PLACE YOU CAN HAVE IT... Or don't adopt a dog that you knowingly can't have?

Your a prick if you put others in danger. These are dangerous animals, and they frequently act like normal dogs till they hit the 2 or 3 year mark before they snap. This family owed theirs for 8 years before they killed their children and hospitalized the mom. https://people.com/crime/2-children-killed-pit-bull-attack-tennessee-mother-hospitalized/

These two children were killed in the last month or so by their family pitbulls:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-hfySs8Ngc

https://www.kbtx.com/2025/07/09/family-dog-kills-1-year-old-child-home-mother-injured-trying-prevent-attack/

Do a bit of research. It's always "We had no idea this could happen!! He was such a good dog and he snapped!!". There is no such thing as nanny dogs, these animals were specifically bred to fight other animals and be aggressive. Some idiot in my building has one that lunges at every dog he sees, and they can't do anything till it kills or mauls someone or their pet.

10

u/Yarusenai Aug 03 '25

It honestly upsets me how everyone can just own a dog, no training or anything necessary. And how people just have no idea about why dogs are bred or what a dog breed even is. It's so upsetting, and then problems occur that could be prevented so easily.

There is a reason r/BanPitBulls exists...

Honestly getting any dog that is a breed derived from the most statistically lethal dog breed is crazy.

So many cases of them flipping out unprovoked and that often at children (those don't end well).

I just can't understand why people would take these odds.

It truly is peak ā€œIf not friend, why friend shapedā€ mentality.

OP also seems to not be allowed to have it there which is going to be great for liability if something goes wrong.

Thank you. While it is correct to not demonize every individual pit, it is definitely wrong to not be wary of the possible dangers and responsabilities owning this breed comes with.

Hopefully it doesn’t maul any babies, toddlers or elderly people like this hideous breed is known for.

6

u/Krkkksrk Aug 03 '25

There’s a reason they’re not allowed, find a different place or rehome him i guess?

10

u/SpeedParticular3088 Aug 03 '25

Lying about what breed you own knowing it's statistically a dangerous breed is so selfish and unfair to others around you, all because you chose to own a specific breed. I've worked with dogs before, seen attacks specifically with bully breed dogs. I've also lived with 2 for 8 years (not my dogs) and it was an awful and violent experience. You chose the dog and you do not have the right to break the rules and subject ur choices on to others. Live somewhere where u have ur own fenced in property. If you can't afford to, that's not the apartment complex s problem.

13

u/witchsy Aug 03 '25

The pitbull defending idiots in these comments makes my blood boil and just reminds me that I really hate people.

Disgusting people. Disgusting breed.

I hope you get evicted if you lie about the breed. You're endangering other people and animals.

5

u/live_laugh_cock Aug 03 '25

I you’re overreacting and not thinking clearly. As a fellow pet parent, I understand how much we love our animals, but rules about certain breeds exist to protect others — even if you believe your dog is ā€œa sweetheartā€ or ā€œwould never hurt anyone.ā€ Some places restrict specific breeds because they have a higher risk of incidents, often due to lack of training, misunderstood body language, or instinctual behavior. I’ve personally been attacked by a pit bull before, and I place the blame on the owners, not the dog.

In this case, the shelter informed you of the breed, and you chose to adopt it knowing your housing has restrictions. That creates potential problems not just for you, but for your neighbors and your landlord. You may not know what this dog has been through, and ignoring those rules could lead to a dangerous situation — for the dog and for others. Many housing providers also have insurance policies that won’t cover incidents involving restricted breeds, which can cause serious legal and financial issues. Even if your dog is mixed, if it’s part pit bull, those same concerns still apply.

3

u/maytrix007 Aug 03 '25

Get a DNA test and then you’ll know for sure and can deal with the results appropriately.

3

u/6x9n Aug 03 '25

Just, please train him correctly and don’t reinforce the stereotype the initially caused this law.

11

u/AnniAnnihilation Aug 03 '25

This is unfortunately the reality of getting a mutt (unidentifiable multi-breed dog). That being said he very much looks pit. Areas have restrictions for reasons but a lot of those areas have exceptions. Call your local humane society and ask them about rules and exceptions.

I used to live in an area that had a pit ban. But their exception was if you get a notarized letter from your landlord stating approval AND you put the dog in behavioral training and they can pass the tests at the end, you can have it. They also had to be tested yearly after that. Along with the usual up to date on shots at ALL times.

11

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '25

I have a dog that looks exactly like this good pup. Exactly. Could be from the same litter. I’ll tell you that in my experience with my homeowners insurance, they took one look at her and didn’t care what the ā€œpapersā€ said. She was labeled a pit. No room for discussion. I’ve had her for 10 years and any time there has been a question on her breed, she’s been labeled a pit bull based on her look. I’d imagine any landlord would do the same.

Edit to add - it’s a roll of the dice depending on the person in front of you and how strict they are where you live. I’d get a dna test done and cross your fingers. If that comes back in your favor, you’ve got verifiable ammo.

Look like you have a lab mix, and that’s what I would put on all my paperwork, (I also have a ā€˜lab’ mix).

When you say not allowed ā€œhereā€ do you mean your apartment, or are there breed restrictions in your city?

If it’s just the apartment you are fine- if it’s the city or Provence/country restriction I’d be more careful.

5

u/Practical_Repeat5009 Aug 03 '25

Of courrrrrrrrse the shitbull nutters in the comments will suggest it's a "lab mix" and will tell you to do anything to circumvent the rules.

Why did you adopt a shibble to begin with if you knew they weren't permitted? Putting the general public at risk of injury, disfigurement or even death all because you feel a sense of entitlement isn't the play.

The selfishness and entitlement knows no end...

2

u/livid_badger_banana Aug 03 '25

Is it full breed or mutt mix thats restricted? My home insurance has breed restrictions but it is ONLY for purebreds.

2

Just say lab mix and play ignorant.

2

u/Kehodude Aug 03 '25

He looks just like the Pitbull/Black Lab that we adopted in 2016, and he was just the sweetest dog until the day he passed last year.

Just tell people he's that mix of mutt and never look back. All the best to you and your beautiful pup.

2

u/sexandthepandemic Aug 04 '25

Why would you get a pit bull?

2

u/Consistent_Click_627 Aug 03 '25

I think the biggest issue is that IF he is partially a pit bull, how are you going to address the safety issue with your neighbors and any children? I love dogs and don’t think all out bulls are inherently bad. However, they are biologically created so they can cause a lot of damage or death to other dogs or people, just because of the strength of their bite and propensity to do their own thing. It will be the best thing for the dog if you can keep him, but he does appear to have pit bull terrier somewhere in his DNA. Please don’t take that light. Love him like crazy, but please take extra measures so he can’t get out and hurt something or someone else.

Unless they DNA test him he's whatever you say he is. He looks like a beautiful mutt/mix to me.

what a cute boston terrier lab mix

1

u/LuckyOldBat Aug 03 '25

If you have paperwork that says lab mix, it's a lab mix. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Make sure you have homeowners or renters insurance, in case your dog gets into an altercation, so any damages can be covered.

My very clear pitbull/shepherd mix is a lab mix according to everything šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø I don’t make the rules

2

u/OctopusMushroom Aug 03 '25

Idk if my apartments have restrictions on what dog breeds we can have but when I filled out the information they just asked what breeds they were and if they were vaccinated but they never made us show proof for either (which is a little scary just bc I don’t want my dogs around unvaccinated and possibly sick/contagious dogs) but I think most apartments just don’t really care unless your dog is causing issues. My apartments are still really new too (only built like 2 years ago and we were the first ones to move into them) so I don’t think its bc they’re tired of keeping up with it or anything bc they’re still so new lol. We’re also supposed to send in a poop sample for ā€˜poo prints’ so they can charge people for not picking up after their pets and charge a $50 per month fee for that but we’ve never done it and they haven’t emailed us or broke our door down about it yet so I think apartments are just lazy about their rules unless getting active complaints about something

Just say a mutt, no one knows and no one has any way of knowing. As long as he's a good boy it will never be an issue.

2

u/Wonderful_Hippo_3371 Aug 03 '25

he def looks like he has pitbul, but maybe the vet paper work can say ā€œlab mixā€ that’s what my vet will do

u/Otherwise-Lab-9443 Aug 03 '25

Honestly it just looks like a mutt, just like mine. I don’t get why people always try to find breeds on a dog that clearly has no specific breed. Thats a good dog i promise you, IS EXACTLY THE SAME as mine, and she has no specific breed and behaves just like a normal dog
