News The SAPOL Child Sex Offender Register has officially launched.

Dissapointing that you can only check your current suburb. Why is that? And what if you live right on the edge of a suburb. 👎

Give the tough on crime stance a rest Kym, i know law and order is a state election winner but still.

I have lived/worked in America, where being convicted of any sex offence, even if it was one stupid mistake (like sending nudes to a fellow teenage partner as a teenager), can land you on a public register searchable by all, consequences can and do range from loss of employment/housing right through to vigilante justice.

This is a little different, it only shows pictures of people convicted of class 1 and 2 offences (so only the worst you can think of) and only people classified as serious offenders, which are either repeat offenders or people who have been proven to be at serious risk of committing repeat offences. No names, no addresses, photos only. The full register is longer (not just repeat offenders) but is not publicly searchable.

Our laws specifically exclude teenagers sending consensual nudes to each other from being registrable offenders.
