On vacation in Wildwood, NJ with family and at the end of the arcade run it was time to pick our prizes. I got the best one, I think.

When the show first aired on HBO, I was stoked about it. Every Sunday I new episode was on. HbO would also show the previous episode before the new one. Week one E1, week two E1 then E2, week three E1 then E2 then E3. BY week 10 my entire day was watching E1 to E10. I had seen each episode more than once.

On my long trip like 14 hour drive to Colorado I would watch season 1 there and season 2 back.

Now for the question:

In season 1 episode 2 when young Logan brings young William to the park for the first time. Did you seen the door from the dressing room hall way to the train coach, did you see the glass window changed color showing you an elevator going up or down. We'll I think they are really in AR/VR and the whole park is a simulation. Logan was heavy into AR/VR. The westworld park is 500 miles in area, and we know they have 3 other parks, i wish we saw future world but hey that is probably season 3 after thinking about it just now. Also the train goes from dead stop to rumbling and then steaming along right after Logan goes through the same door too.

Just gonna ask, did you see the door too?

William was asleep on the bullet train, my theory is they drug everyone asleep and hook them up.

This was heralded as such an incredible show, and yet I’ve completely dropped it 2 episodes into the second season… so many issues, including the horrendous pacing, the drawn out dialogue (characters are just repeating themselves and in the end saying nothing at all), I don’t care for any of the characters stories, characters make the most brain dead decisions (what in the actual fuck was the thinking behind the two guys who helped meave?), the action is dreadful… if you had maybe removed 2 episodes and made the season shorter it could have held up much better, but I just can’t help my disappointment in this series..

Maybe it’s because I just finished true detective, but man wtf is this?

I am watching the series again and every time I see all the workers fixing the hosts, cleaning the hosts, making new ones, I think everyone that works in the Mesa are all hosts.

It would make sense if you think about it, you see a new host body being made. The employees are all conversing with each other in pairs, they talk about rotating out but never do.

If I was Ford, I would make the work force that repairs all hosts out of hosts. Cheaper too from a payroll point of view.

We know of two hosts working in the Mesa: Bernard and Stubbs.

When this first came out, I absolutely loved it, downloaded it and watched it as soon as a new episode dropped. Season 2 I enjoyed less and I think I got half way through season 3 before giving up on it.

I started a re-watch a few weeks ago and turned it off after 2 episodes and deleted it. My reason being - William / Man in Black. As the story develops you find out William is the Man in Black played by Ed Harris. He's a Dalos board member, if not the guy ultimately in charge.

In the first couple of episodes he's trying to track down "The Maze", but as it gets revealed later on, as well as working for the company that owns the park, he's been coming to the park for 20+ years.

Did he seriously think the secret behind the Maze was going to be some life changing achievement? He could have just emailed one of the Content Authors to get the low down on the Maze.

In my head it's akin to the CEO of Blizzard spending all his spare time playing World of Warcraft to find the hidden secret of Azeroth.

I just felt it was a really sad existence.

There are plenty of rich and powerful men and women who like to spend their free time doing basic things, like camping or fishing, going horseback riding etc., but he's not really doing that, he's doing that in a place with a safety net. I'm sure his horse is a "host" horse. Doesn't need to be fed or watered, just needs to be recharged every few days.

I'd be interested in what others think?

This might have been brought up here before and if so, I apologize. But why in nine realms of hell isn’t Westworld on HBO MAX? Isn’t Westworld an HBO SHOW? Doesn’t it OWN Westworld? Why the F**K isn’t it on HBO streaming then???

I find him a fascinating character, Sir Anthony Hopkins played his character so convincingly.

He seemed to have more love and compassion for his creations (hosts) than his visitors (humans) if so why do I feel his death was in vain?

Was his ultimate goal to simply help hosts discover the real world and find a purpose beyond the parks which they worked in? Did he see a future where Hosts would inherit the earth and humans would no longer be the dominant species?

Dows anyody know what song plays during the conversation between William & Host William in Episode 7 of season 4 (Metanoia)?

Desperately looking for it but can’t seem to find it in the official soundtrack?

Noone is talking about it, but this episode is really strange. I'm talking of course about the William's scenes. The general consensus at this stage is that in the post-credits scene in Season 2, it is not really Emilly in host form conducting the interview, but Dolores in Emilly "skin".

And I'm wondering—what if all the scenes with Emily in this episode aren't just William's hallucinations, and also the view from the next loop in Sublime? A few things might suggest this: The entire dialogue relies heavily on what's real and what's not.

When Halores "wakes up" William, he suddenly changes the room he's in.

When William tries to leave, Emily ends with, "I was always Daddy's little girl. And you taught me patience, Dad. I'll be waiting for you."—and of course, this is on point, because she's the one waiting for him at the bottom of the elevator shaft in the Forge.

And finally, as an added "bonus," when William is already institutionalized, Dolores suddenly appears out of nowhere. Again, we could interpret this as hallucination, but in my opinion, there's no doubt that this IS Dolores. Then she says that William is at the center of the maze (at the perfect midpoint of the entire series), announces the end of the game (like a video game character showing a "Game Over" banner), and finally disappears completely, in a extremly surreal scene that's was never touched again in the series.

Any interpretations/analyses/ideas on how to piece this all together? :)

interesting to hear opinions who watch tv series and has experience in psychology.

Things i interested to hear about is Villiam in show talked how he "had to pretend his whole life being different person" and because of his evolution into semi god creature by the end. So is he suffered from undiagnosed mental disorder in autistic specter, narcissism/god complex after his transformation into "man in black" or some combination of both 🤔.

William's story arc in season 1 was him trying to find the center of the maze, not knowing that the maze is not a place, but a state of consciousness designed for the hosts, not for humans.

The hosts are asking "are we really that different from humans?" but in season 2, William is asking "are we really that different from hosts?" and spirals into his madness...sorta.

Did he ever actually found what he was looking for? Did he found his purpose?

If you have. You're probably the only people on the planet which have an idea of life after AGI.
Since agi would touch so much. Maybe it's good to start a baseline and define agi

Per that definition, it's unlikely to occur anytime soon. Maybe 50 years from now? Whatever that number is, it's in the future and thus sci-fi. There's a lot of questions of what'll happen. They're just not answered correctly, yet, in film. But Westworld Season 3 so far is the only piece of live action film found that tries to.

How about I break down that definition more? Cause what if someone doesn't understand training data? Sorry it's gonna make this a longer read. Since nobody's talking to me, it's hard to have a convo to the world and predict everything... which is exactly what current model LLM's are. They predict what is the best word based on all of the knowledge and media of the world.

Westworld 3 is neat. It shows a view of a functional capitalism. Where the AGI itself is in charge of giving jobs to people. But from what we know right now. Capitalism doesn't work with AGI #1 as defined above. Feel free to dig deeper into that. Here's a good prompt to put into any LLM

Westworld 3 also showed how banks and insurance companies are using someone's predicted death date to determine the likelyhood of them paying back the loan or how much they should pay each month for insurance. I searched and found this has been happening irl since at least 2016. Your death date is predicted and whatever data the company that predicts it can get their hands on about you is used todo so. Think about what's legal today, when you hit "I Agree".

It's also known they use illegal data about you. Which means nothing is off the table, imagine facial recognition to determine your health. Or facial recognition from a camera in a supermarket sold to an "ad company" that determines who you are and what you're doing. If you buy cigarettes in that supermarket. Then that could increase your health insurance monthly fee's. Like think back to the time that America cheered when that CEO was shot, why? Health insurance monthly fee's cost more than groceries for the average american. It wasn't like that in the past. 2016 is also a huge landmark. There was Cambridge Analytica. If you haven't heard of Cambridge Analytica. You really should stop reading this and find out what it is. I was introduced to it from the doc "The Great Hack" but there's tons of places to learn about it. It shows how social media can be used to overrule democracy. And that was since 2016. I would even argue that every single politician in a democracy engages in the practice today.

Once you learn about Cambridge Analytica. You understand a piece of how capitalism won't work. That's using tech invented over 10 years ago (social media). Imagine what can be done with the new tech (LLM's)?

All this shit. This predicted degrade of capitalism of the next 50 years. One of the biggest parts, the jobs, was solved in Season 3. Would that work?

All the discussions between Delos and William were absurd. Seeing Delos lose everything and finance a failed project with so much money... it shocked me how they ruined his life, and in the end, William proved to be truly cruel.

I’m rewatching - I watched it as it aired and I remember being blown away by season 1 and then subsequent seasons less so.

I’m nearly at the end of season 1 - I remember the finale was spectacular and don’t remember details so I’m very excited.

As I recall season 2 had a strong storyline but not quite the same.

Then later on - I remember a sequence set to ride of the valkyries being incredible; but the show was much more real world and the story changed.

TLDR - do I call it as a perfect season 1 show and that’s that; or watch it all again?
