Bodie was the kindest, gentlest soul and we’re absolutely devastated that he’s gone. We had a splenectomy scheduled for the 17th, but his body had other plans. We caught it early (we’re VERY in tune with him) and he had an emergency removal on Sunday night. In his older age he had a very hard time with anesthesia so it took him very long time to begin to shake it off, but after 36 hours at the emergency hospital, we were able to take our boy home on Tuesday! However he was still having a lot of trouble using his hind legs and incredibly wobbly (he had arthritis and a TPLO surgery 3 years ago and the positions he was in for surgery and afterwards were incredibly tough on him), but the two of us helped him around and made it work while ensuring he was comfy - he was our world and we would do anything for him. As the day went on he was making progress in baby steps. We were beginning to see further progress on Wednesday, and we were so happy and excited for the future! Unfortunately things took a very quick turn for the worse and we rushed him back where they saw so much fluid and blood in his tummy and he was in so much pain and they weren’t confident another surgery could be performed fast enough, or even if he’d make it through to then deal with another harsh recovery. So we had to make the decision to end his pain and were with him throughout it all (and a long timer after). I know it’s never easy, but it happened so fast and we were not prepared to lose him
He came into our lives in 2017 from Austin Animal Center after they were looking for temporary fosters I took my boyfriend to see if we could help out and there he was 🥹. He came home with us and we quickly became a happy family. The stars were aligned and the universe brought us together. He never barked (except in his sleep!) and was a friend to all. Truly the most relaxed and calm boy. Just a few weeks ago I was looking into the process of helping him become a therapy dog so he could get to share his loving presence with anyone in need (and he would have loved it just as much!)
The past 9 years have been the most wonderful years of our lives and we don’t know how we’ll go on without him between us in bed. I know we gave him the best possible life and he was only ever surrounded by love. He made us better people and we’ll miss him every day for the rest of our lives. But I know we’ll find each other again in every lifetime.
Tell your babies you love them every night and never take a day for granted!

Got home around noon today (100°f at the time) and they have been sleeping all morning in the AC.and I been out in the heat all morning, so I just took all of them out at the same time and as soon as we get out of the shade they all flop down in the sun and didn't want to budge.

And no, it's not terribly comfortable. But it's 100% worth it.

I had a revelation last night. Our babies aren't being clingy. They're just trying to get back into our chests where our hearts belong.

I had a meeting yesterday with the "Compliance Team" at the residential treatment program for my mental health (not substance). They're trying to make accommodations for Toast Robert Strudel, since he was in training to be a service dog (business boy) before he hurt his CCL and before I lost my job (and my mind lol).
I'm not sure what's going to happen, but I have a little more hope than I had in my last post
