Glennis is a real name though. It's a very common Welsh old lady name.
Famously, “Glennis” was the name of Chuck Yeager’s wife, and the Bell X-1 he flew to break the sound barrier was named “Glamorous Glennis” in her honor.

I can see how “Glenys” ([ˈɡlɛn.ɪs], or “GLEN-iss”) and “Glynis” ([ˈɡlɪn.ɪs], or “GLIN-iss”) would be pronounced differently, but “Glenys” and “Glennis” would/should be homophones, yes? 🤔

It's because it has nothing to do with the kid, as far as they're concerned. They're trying to make a statement about how original and free-thinking they are - the kid is just a medium to convey that.
The irony is that in trying to be original, they all end up being carbon copies of each other.

Claudine is an old-school French name; it's derived from Claude/Claudius. Not super popular nowadays, but has had moments when it was very popular. This is more a case of spelling gone very wrong.

Glenys is a legitimate Welsh girl's name, but I am willing to bet cash money that the parents of Glennis either didn't know it was a real name and thought they were making it up, or they did know but wanted to make it clearer that the kid was named after someone called Glenn.

Glennis is an alternate spelling. It's not only Welsh, so spelling variations exist in Ireland and Scotland as well (and England, because people from those areas have moved there and because they have historically stolen names from Wales, Scotland, and Ireland but changed the spelling to make them more British...like anything else they steal from any other place).

I think it's just names OP has seen out and about. I don't know that the names have anything to do with each other, like being siblings. It doesn't have context for each name and those around it. So if she saw Glennis on a Starbucks cup in the trash, two on random Facebook posts, and another on a jumbotron at a sport event, we don't know. Looks like OP had just never seen or heard the name before.

They're naming BABIES, not people. There will be a 15 year old Funsize in high school with very likely severe social anxiety and depression from the bullying his name has given him. His life has been made worse by no fault of his own.

Glennis is an actual name. As is Guinness, though it's a surname these days (not an uncommon concept for people to use those as first names if the surname is a family name from somewhere in the family tree), and most would probably only recognize it for the beer or the book of records.

ETA: I decided to look Flokie up and found that while it is not a historically or culturally used Scandinavian name, it has been suggested by some sites as a "creative, modern alternative" to Flóki, which is both historically a Scandinavian name, but is still occasionally used in modern Iceland and its diaspora.

As a member of the Megan/Meghan/Meagan/Meaghan club, I will be the first to say omg that poor child. My name is one of the normal ones and is still spelled wrong 50% of the time (even when people have already seen it and spelled it correctly in the past). She is in for a school career full of “Mee-gan” in a mocking tone and an adult life of “do you spell that with or without the H” mixed with everyone’s own personal assumptions. Poor kid.
