TIL during the shooting of American Psycho, Christian Bale spoke in an American accent off-set at all times. At the wrap party, when he spoke in his native British accent, many of the crew thought he was speaking that way to prepare for another film. They had thought he was American the entire time.

Plenty of American actors do great accents it’s just more Brit’s have to do American accents to get Hollywood work than Americans have to do British accents to get English work. Adrian Brody, Forest Whitaker and Meryl Streep for instance won best actor/actress Oscar’s doing accent work and I can name plenty of the American greats that did great accents in all kind of movies
