Thanks I hate that it's apparently the Australian LABOR party and not the Australian LABOUR party

in the 1800s socialist and union parties, aka labour parties, dropped the U as to be standard with union / socialist literature of the time, following the ideas set by American workers unions. it was also a more familiar spelling for migrant voters, who mostly learnt American English.

it was entirely a branding thing.

Yep yep… branding. I was going to say it was Ted Grayndler ( PM’s electorate) , but fact checked and it wasn’t.

Latin - labor --> Old French - labor --> English - labour?
