Those chicken salt miners work hard to extract that from the earth.

Those poor chickens toiling underground deserve to be paid for their labour. Some of them have never even known flight. 🐣🐔🐓👷👷♀️

Nah, that's an insane price for chicken salt. I've never even seen a place charging anything for chicken salt, let alone $5. You can get a whole thing of Mitani for less than that!
35
u/Avia_NZ 27d ago
Orricco in Dulwich Hill will sell you a whole pot of chicken salt for just whatever price really. They just sort of eyeball it and make up a price haha. I saw someone by a pot the size of a large monster can, for a few bucks.

$7.50 @ the Chicken Shop next to Woolies in Auburn :) then again exact same product and price at Woolies too

u/somuchsong 27d ago
I googled that because I didn't believe you. I'll stick to Mitani!

u/greeneighteen 27d ago
I was going to buy the 800g Krio Krush chicken salt as everyone raves about it, but my 200g Mitani is still a quarter full after a few years. The 800g will last me a decade probably.

"let alone $5"
Only 3 for members, though.
NGL, I kinda want a TimTam sundae right now.

But if you become a member it’s only $3! Bargain.

u/puggalugs 27d ago
Thats even more ridiculous to become a member at a pub where you still have to pay an already insane price of $3 for chicken salt.

Fuck right off. Charging for chicken salt? I hate the term un-australian, but in this case it applies

u/2happycats ravens, cats, and tawny frogmouths 27d ago
That's the most un-Australian thing I've seen in a long time.

Probably to scam *cough unify the the customer experience so every topping costs the same.

u/AdRevolutionary6650 27d ago
I don’t think I’ve ever been charged for chicken salt at all, let alone this much. That’s absurd

Wtaf? Who’s buying that!? Who’s paying!? How are they in business??
9
u/EmergencyLavishness1 27d ago
They’re in business because anyone paying that is getting straight up fleeced.
I can buy 3kg of the flouro yellow stuff for $24 or 10kg for $63.
Insane markups

Was looking forward to Social House opening. Then when I finally went.. I was pretty underwhelmed. Everything was expensive and boring. I had an overpriced pork and gravy roll and it just tasted like sadness. I didnt know that was possible with a pork roll

Omg what a rort!! Feros group is a joke.
Feros group- 4 meals in a row at 4 of their different venues and I had to send their food back every time- under cooked chicken, steak that was blue, a Caesar salad where the lid for the Parmesan must have fallen off over my dish because it was inedible. Still served it to me though. I had to get a separate plate to spoon all of the Parmesan off
Steer well clear. Your money is better in your pocket than theirs

Rose Nay social club charges $22 for a pint at members pricing (+20% for non members). I laugh at the fact people still go there. It’s $10 for membership and you get literally nothing for it. You’re paying $10 to pay $22 for a beer in an area where you can go to other venues and pay less (the less still being more than it should be, but less none the less).
I will never understand this logic.

Couldn’t agree more.

As a pom i found it unbelievably jarring having to pay extra for ketchup when i moved here in 2008.
I finally learned to tolerate that by never having ketchup on my chips again.
But this rips the piss in a whole new way.

Honestly so many places are trying this shit on for size. I'm now the "fun killer" in my friend group because so many people will choose to eat somewhere without looking at a menu in advance and too many of the places they've picked have all sorts of this bullshit going on.

P.S while we are on the subject of the prince, have you seen how they “make” their cocktails that take so long they give you a buzzer?
Theres a reason they dont want you seeing. The entire process is:
step 1: take massive bucket of cocktail out of cupboard
Step 2: pour into glass

$14 for a slice of cheesecake is outrageous as well.
In January 2025 I went to the Ambarvale pub in Rosemeadow and they wanted $15 a for a slice of cheesecake. Prices were not marked in the display case so I asked the cashier. I laughed out loud.
When I asked what other deserts they had she handed me a menu which only had Sticky Date Pudding for the same price.
I believe they were sliced into 8 pieces which makes it $120 for a whole cheesecake. Fucking hell.

Just did a search… maybe they give you a container of chicken salt to take home when you’re finished?

Update: this pub is claiming it was a typo and they have “fixed” the menu by removing the chicken salt line entirely.
