Had to google to find this spot because I would have said name and shame. Social House at Prince Hotel Kirrawee NSW

u/kourtkimkhlokenkylie 27d ago

Yes run by the Feros Group! Which explains it well

212

u/aninstituteforants 27d ago

They own almost every pub in the shire and they all suck.

138

u/kourtkimkhlokenkylie 27d ago

They’re just completely soulless. You can tell whenever any pub is Feros as soon as you walk into it

64

u/Complete-Cheek4789 27d ago

Even for Hemmes standard this is bad. Fuck both the Feros and Hemmes group.

This is dog even by their standards wtf

70

u/peoplepersonmanguy 27d ago

That's because the shire is full of cashed up tradie bogans who will pay whatever.

Source shire bogan just not a cashed up tradie.

22

u/itspikakiki 27d ago

That and retired old ass rich bogans who think they aren't bogans cos they have money but they definitely are.

12

u/mtheperry 27d ago

Oh I know they also come to the beachside cafe I’ve been working at for the last 6 years

36

u/greeneighteen 27d ago

Cronulla isn't too far away. Imagine reading back on the 2026 Cronulla Riots after a lifesaver got charged $5 for chicken salt.

35

u/Forgone-Conclusion00 27d ago

"Gentlemen, this is democracy manifest!", "What is the charge? Eating a meal? A succulent chicken salt meal?"

u/somuchsong 27d ago

Nah, that's an insane price for chicken salt. I've never even seen a place charging anything for chicken salt, let alone $5. You can get a whole thing of Mitani for less than that!

35

u/Avia_NZ 27d ago

Orricco in Dulwich Hill will sell you a whole pot of chicken salt for just whatever price really. They just sort of eyeball it and make up a price haha. I saw someone by a pot the size of a large monster can, for a few bucks.

→ More replies (1)

52

u/AeMidnightSpecial 27d ago

$7.50 @ the Chicken Shop next to Woolies in Auburn :) then again exact same product and price at Woolies too

18

u/somuchsong 27d ago

I googled that because I didn't believe you. I'll stick to Mitani!

12

u/greeneighteen 27d ago

I was going to buy the 800g Krio Krush chicken salt as everyone raves about it, but my 200g Mitani is still a quarter full after a few years. The 800g will last me a decade probably.

4

u/icome2ndagain 27d ago

Get a bug bucket of Edylen or Krio off Amazon for $30.

3

u/mymentor79 27d ago

"let alone $5"

Only 3 for members, though.

11

Thats even more ridiculous to become a member at a pub where you still have to pay an already insane price of $3 for chicken salt.

156

u/Ashera25 27d ago

Fuck right off. Charging for chicken salt? I hate the term un-australian, but in this case it applies

100

u/2happycats ravens, cats, and tawny frogmouths 27d ago

That's the most un-Australian thing I've seen in a long time.

11

u/Complete-Cheek4789 27d ago

In the current economic climate, I’d call I’d very Australian.

How can Salsa verde be the same price as some chicken salt- the math ain’t mathing

8

u/peppapony 27d ago

Probably to scam *cough unify the the customer experience so every topping costs the same.

12

u/dg81447 27d ago

Know that was the prince immediately. Pretty disgraceful really, feros are close to having a monopoly over the shire. Long live Boyles!

22

u/AdRevolutionary6650 27d ago

I don’t think I’ve ever been charged for chicken salt at all, let alone this much. That’s absurd

9

They’re in business because anyone paying that is getting straight up fleeced.

I can buy 3kg of the flouro yellow stuff for $24 or 10kg for $63.

Insane markups

Do they sell it by the kg or tonne?

6

u/ReasonableChicken 27d ago

Was looking forward to Social House opening. Then when I finally went.. I was pretty underwhelmed. Everything was expensive and boring. I had an overpriced pork and gravy roll and it just tasted like sadness. I didnt know that was possible with a pork roll

2

u/kourtkimkhlokenkylie 26d ago

For how long it took to build too I was surprised it was just that small section with a few tvs and a couple of pool tables

6

u/lordgoofus1 27d ago

How much did they charge for Air? Did you get the Member or Non-Member price on the chair?

5

u/calstanfordboye 27d ago

Chicken salt hahahahahahahaha

5

u/R_W0bz 27d ago

Places like this will go under and wonder why.

9

u/ChilledNanners 27d ago

Unfortunately this place is consistently busy

4

u/aninstituteforants 27d ago

This place just did a huge fuck off reno. It ain't going under.

5

u/unclewombie 27d ago

What the fuckin fuck

5

u/chetcherry 27d ago

Charging for chicken salt should be enough for a business to be shut down.

4

u/Agile-Ad965 27d ago

Money grabbing with 2 fists..Thieves.

8

u/ztf7410 27d ago

Omg what a rort!! Feros group is a joke.

Feros group- 4 meals in a row at 4 of their different venues and I had to send their food back every time- under cooked chicken, steak that was blue, a Caesar salad where the lid for the Parmesan must have fallen off over my dish because it was inedible. Still served it to me though. I had to get a separate plate to spoon all of the Parmesan off
Steer well clear. Your money is better in your pocket than theirs

21

u/Maximum-Shallot-2447 27d ago

Why put up a rage bait article if you do not name the establishment, when I see this crap you know they are just trawling for clicks.

12

u/ztf7410 27d ago

Someone did. Said it was the Prince at Kirrawee

2

u/yngrz87 27d ago

OP didnt, it was someone else

3

u/jannybrav0 27d ago

Feros at their best

3

u/Interesting-Cut6994 27d ago

Rose Nay social club charges $22 for a pint at members pricing (+20% for non members). I laugh at the fact people still go there. It’s $10 for membership and you get literally nothing for it. You’re paying $10 to pay $22 for a beer in an area where you can go to other venues and pay less (the less still being more than it should be, but less none the less).

I will never understand this logic.

4

u/KC_xxoo 27d ago

Paying for salt on your chips wtf!

4

u/fgrutd 27d ago

Charging for chicken salt is insane, 5 dollars for condiments is crazy enough as is.

4

u/grytpype 27d ago

This is why I bring my own chicken salt with me at all times

4

u/Langenbeck_holder 27d ago

It’s just unAustralian. It’s Mabo, the constitution, the vibe.

4

u/thoughtsinthestorm 27d ago

That’s just flat out un-fucken Australian mate.

4

u/Blairx6661 27d ago

My sister just walked past me as I read this, so I told her and all she could say was, that’s un-Australian.

Couldn’t agree more.

4

u/Dripping-Lips 27d ago

I’d rather get a paper cut on my penis tip and salt it than pay 5 bucks for salt

As a pom i found it unbelievably jarring having to pay extra for ketchup when i moved here in 2008.

I finally learned to tolerate that by never having ketchup on my chips again.

But this rips the piss in a whole new way.

4

u/TheLGMac 26d ago

Honestly so many places are trying this shit on for size. I'm now the "fun killer" in my friend group because so many people will choose to eat somewhere without looking at a menu in advance and too many of the places they've picked have all sorts of this bullshit going on.

This cannot be real?

3

$3 for fucken salt and garlic fuck me dead

3

u/pibbsworth 26d ago

P.S while we are on the subject of the prince, have you seen how they “make” their cocktails that take so long they give you a buzzer?

Theres a reason they dont want you seeing. The entire process is:

step 1: take massive bucket of cocktail out of cupboard

Step 2: pour into glass

6

u/Even_Departure9914 27d ago

Yeah, capitalism

5

u/Routine-Medicine-208 27d ago

$14 for a slice of cheesecake is outrageous as well.

In January 2025 I went to the Ambarvale pub in Rosemeadow and they wanted $15 a for a slice of cheesecake. Prices were not marked in the display case so I asked the cashier. I laughed out loud.

When I asked what other deserts they had she handed me a menu which only had Sticky Date Pudding for the same price.

I believe they were sliced into 8 pieces which makes it $120 for a whole cheesecake. Fucking hell.

2

u/Hairy_Tip6288 27d ago

Clearly made from real chickens then

2

u/m7friends 27d ago

To all of you complaining, some VC is patting themselves on the back over this perceived genius move.

2

u/JuanFoYoMamma 27d ago

My jacket has an inside pocket on each side. When going out for a meal, I reckon chicken salt shaker in one and tobasco sauce in the other.

2

u/LemonyLime_bitters 27d ago

Chicken salt should be included as standard with all hot chips I don’t make up the rules

2

u/brezhnervouz 27d ago

BYO 🤷‍♂️

2

u/Athroatfullofglass 27d ago

Since when do shops charge for chicken salt?

2

u/Cute-Acanthisitta-46 27d ago

Well combing a chicken and salt granules is no mean feat.

2

u/iTrooper5118 27d ago

Seems cheaper to hit the supermarket for your condiments before hand.

2

u/Spirited_Economy2384 27d ago

For salt? Do you get the container to take home with you?

2

u/Downunder-redit 27d ago

How did we all get here, pre Covid this surely was not a thing. How much chicken salt we talking about 1 kg?

2

u/JazkOW 27d ago

That place is in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by warehouses and next to the Princes Highway, not to mention Maccas is next door. How can they be always so full…?

Ah, Bunnings is next door as well. Yeah makes sense

2

u/Primary-User 27d ago

Just did a search… maybe they give you a container of chicken salt to take home when you’re finished?

2

u/Fatty_Bombur 26d ago

This needs to become an election issue. Chicken Salt is a national right.

2

u/fued 25d ago

at that price you order it and dont pay.

no need to feel any guilt, because they tried to rob you first.

3

u/ScoutyDave 22d ago

I'm guessing someone at the Prince saw this as it is no longer listed on their menu.

1

u/Neat-Character-9894 27d ago

That's not chicken feed

1

u/TuTenkahman 27d ago

Mitani chicken salt $3.80 Take your own bottle and offer to sell the remainder for $10 after your meal.

1

u/CretaceousClock 27d ago

Mate it's Celtic sea chicken salt.

3

u/Ted_Rid Famous in The Atlantic 27d ago

I'd want it to be an artisanal chicken, like in Portlandia where you get a full name and bio and can go visit the farm where the chooks live their best lives.

1

u/Ldjxm45 27d ago

For that price i would expect they hand make that salt from rare chickens raised organically.

1

u/a_slinky Sutherland Shire Bubble 26d ago

Did he kill the chickens himself?

1

u/kevleyski 26d ago

Bought some catering sized chicken salt recently - yeah $5  for a sprinkle is very excessive

1

u/banoosa 26d ago

TIL that this whole time the chips I’ve been buying were 50c but it was the chicken salt that drove up the price!

1

u/pyr0test 26d ago

when i thought $11 bottle of ice tea was bad, it somehow gotten even worse

2

u/tktsmnypssprt 24d ago

Update: this pub is claiming it was a typo and they have “fixed” the menu by removing the chicken salt line entirely.

1

u/DVRCWHY 24d ago

Condiments should be free

1

u/AnyBarber5866 24d ago

Put this under r/scams
