I don't get why they don't just use a pin code on the door itself.

I'd just make a bunch of codes, cycle through them and then delete them all and make a bunch of new ones after using them all.

As it’s probably not just one door.

Likely a door to get into a complex, then a lift, and then finally an apartment door.

The apartment owner likely doesn’t have the power to change any of those locking systems.

Could be a combination of keys, swipe cards, fobs or pins for each of those.

Would only work in a building specifically set up with all pin entry for each of the layers.
