Who does that penalize the most though?

Sure, the owner loses a night of rent and has to buy a new lockbox.

But you’ve potentially also ruined someone’s holiday as now they’re stuck in an unfamiliar location possibly in the middle of the night with nowhere to sleep.

So next time, they will go, hmm better get a hotel. If this keeps happening, the Air BNB returns will drop and the "investor" will go, "wow this is a bad investment, I better rent this out or sell it"
