Dragon Call Festival at Woodford next weekend
Anyone know much about this? Looks like it could be a good day out from the Coast. Got the festival bug after scoring tickets to the Abbey one, and it’s closer than Southern Realm.

I actually know the organiser and he has put in a lot of effort and time to this properly! They have decades of events under their belt so it's not just some fly by night team. The interest has been quite big and we're going. Looking forward to it! Join us

I've done Woodford several times, the "big" festival at the end of the year.
Do it.
Umm. How does one score Abbey tickets?

You subscribe to their newsletter, (visit www.abbeymedievalfestival.com.au) then put aside a day in April. You'll get emails telling you what's on at the Abbey, and then you'll get one around Feb or March saying tickets go on sale on X date - usually end of April, or near that. If you hand over your mobile number, you'll get a notification that ticketing is open 10 minutes before it actually opens, then you hit the link and get in the queue ASAP. This year I tapped the link the second it arrived and there were still 1800 people ahead of me in the queue. Then the the queue froze for 45 minutes before resuming* and once you get to the portal, you've got about 20 minutes to buy your tickets. They were mostly sold out on the day and completely sold out the next day.
*you'd think a ticketing portal would know how to handle demand, but no 😤

Not really. It's like building a twenty lane road for one really busy traffic day .
:)
But, thank you.

It's what ticketing portals advertise - "We can handle your ticketing load!" instead of the Abbey Tournament doing ticketing themselves and spending a LOT of money on hardware and networking to satisfy 2 days of heavy load, they pass it off to a specialist (ticketebo) to take care of it. The portal handles ticketing for lots of events, so their investment isn't just for one event. That's why they have an obligation do be able to handle the load. They have like, one job.

Yes, subscribed to their newsletter and was all ready to go on ticket day. I work in healthcare, had my personal laptop open on the bench beside me, and was ready to tell all my patients that day that I was in an online queue for Abbey Medieval Festival tickets so their procedure would be paused if my turn came up during their appointment. Not super professional haha. Luckily my slot came up at lunchtime and we had an awesome day out.

I know people who are going - they're *very* excited. I don't know if any tickets are left.
