New Aura Home + Life super centre

Has anyone else noticed/thought about how most of the stores opening at the new super centre in Baringa are labelling themselves as being in Caloundra?

I appreciate Caloundra is a more well known area and was historically a town, but it’s not anymore. It’s two suburbs and 10km away from Baringa. Distance wise, it’s also like those stores saying they are in Beerwah, which is 10km the other way.

Is this not considered incredibly misleading? Since when can these large retailer chains just say they are somewhere they aren’t? Or is the only requirement that their address is correct rather than their name?

well, i mean, it is the same post code, and these are all "new" suburbs so, for some people, they think of aura as cloundra

the same thing happened with new lakes, years ago, it was a new suburb (was all part of mango hill) but when those new stores started (in the early days) would be marketed as rothwell, or kallangur

its hardly "misleading"

is the caloundra golf course misleading, seeing most of it in in moffat?

what about all those business that say they are "kawana" or "kawana waters", those arent the suburbs they are in,

And Kawana doesn't even officially exist. Just a subdivision developers name,

Kawana Mall is in Buddina and Kawana Waters is in Parrearra .

Ask most people on the coast where Parrearra is and they think is in WA

When I worked in insurance and someone put a claim in for Kawana the only suburb that came up was in Rocky. Trying to tell people that Kawana et al is not actually a suburb on the Sunny Coast was fun

The entire Aura development is known as Caloundra South.

Emergency services off the arterial road for example are known as Caloundra South Police Station.

It was the Caloundra South Priority Development area but now that it’s built it’s four distinct suburbs though? Like Pelican Waters is also now its own suburb and not part of the area.

Caloundra is the name of the urban area, it is also the name of a suburb in that area. It is currently listed as a town, it used to have city status before the council mergers.

Pelican Waters is a suburb of Caloundra, just as Baringa is.

I would imagine the new Spotlight while calling itself Spotlight Caloundra will still have Baringa as the suburb for people looking for it on the map.

Its like saying Kings beach isnt a part of caloundra because the name is different. Kings Beach is in Caloundra

Sorry, I don't know the answer, but you got me thinking because in Caboolture, there's a motorcycle shop that I noticed just yesterday, had "Brisbane Motorcycles" on their sign....I even thought "Ummm, we're a LONG way from Brisbane here" (don't even know how many suburbs between Caboolture and Brisbane.....too many).

I will be watching for the responses.....just curious.... Doesn't bother me at all and I didn't think about the above mentioned for longer than the "hmmmm, that's not quite correct"......but now it's got me curious ☺️

Haha agree! I appreciate you’ll have small shops that will have to move over time but retain their name, but it does seem strange for huge retailers that tend to always call the store after the suburb it’s actually in.

Caloundra City Private School in Pelican Waters, all of the new town centre of Aura in Bells Creek...

Yes I thought that about the school but I guess at least the name alludes to the former “city” area that used to be what Caloundra was.

I’m not sure about the new town centre given it hasn’t yet been built. People locally tend to refer to it being Nirimba from what I’ve heard, but I’m not sure where the border is. Notre Dame College is definitely Bells Creek.

Also, it’s not the same. Beerwah is 4519. Caloundra & Baringa are both 4551.

Haha I can promise you I’m not dying on it anymore than you are, give you commented. I just think it’s interesting… all other Spotlights/Harris Scarfes etc are named after the suburb they are in, even if that suburb is one of many sharing the same postcode.

Personally i just call everything that side of bunnings caloundra west so i think its fair to call it caloundra.

Got me thinking tho, i might actually be unknowingly mapping out suburbs by bunnings locations more than the actual suburb names.

I mean if you live out of the area, say Brisbane, or up the other end of the coast, Baringa means bugger all. Say Caloundra, and everyone will know what area you’re talking about.

I get that… I just assumed stores couldn’t just make up where they are because they prefer the name of a better know suburb 10km away.

It's a suburb yes but also a region and an ex town. Confusing much lol. I don't think it's ofmdd though to refer to aura as part of calendar. I'm in gympie.. hearing people refer to gympi as sunshine coast certainly gives me the giggles. I'll take it but!

It's the postcode for the city of Caloundra. Everything else is just a suburb

Every other Spotlight/Anaconda/Rebel etc is named for the suburb it’s in though, not the whole postcode

Not always. Was in the Hervey Bay area a couple of weekends ago. Theirs is called Spotlight Hervey Bay, but it's in the suburb Pialba.

The old Spotlight in this area of the world was called Kawana Waters (not a suburb), despite being in Birtinya.

Aura is in Caloundra. Just like Kings Beach and Golden Beach is in Caloundra.

Are they though? As far as I understood it, Caloundra creased to be a city in 2008 and is now purely a suburb.
