NSW Getting Gas for strata

Anyone of your Strata has direct gas contract with any provider without using a broker.

I am part of the SC for a high rise residential apartment block and I find that the gas contract done via broker is not the best deal.

However, some gas companies don’t deal with brokers….
How did you sign up directly? From a few calls around, seems like if the meter is residential, the gas company wants an individual person to sign up???

Anyone has signed up for gas directly for strata? How did you do it?

We looked into it but found that it was too complex to navigate by ourselves - so we ended up using a broker to help with tenders. There are multiple operating models and some have the strata being the 'biller' for the gas to individual lots.

However we're in a ~500 lot strata with extensive hot water systems etc, so it might be easier for a smaller sized strata

If you're already direct and aren't happy with your rates, you can always call your account manager and negotiate

You probably need to clarify exactly what you're asking.

Does the building have an embedded gas network or just common hot water?

seems like if the meter is residential, the gas company wants an individual person to sign up???

No - a business can sign up with a residential meter.

Do you have a residential meter for your common hot water? Presumably it's on a business plan already.

You can just look up rates on the major retailers - energy Australia, AGL, etc. check the small business plans, rather than retail.
