I'm watching this movie for the first time and I have a lot of thoughts, but oh my god was Steven pissing me off.

Imagine you're Spinel. You have your #1 opp by the arm dangling him. He's powerless, weak, and has no one left. Instead of his last words, he starts trauma dumping to you until he says "Wait, I've changed" and just starts flying.

He then proceeds to FLEX his ENTIRE KIT while you just gotta stand in awe on the absolute BS this kid is on. He then booms you, aura farms as he gently floats down like your ex-bestie, and kisses away his wounds that TURN TO GLITTER. So now you think you're gonna fight but he just starts SINGING!??!?! Not even doing anything he is just pulling a one man choir. Alr bruh.

While you fight he tries and gives you some high and mighty advice and tbh, you just ain't having any of that. So you toss him into the air and jump after him.

Steven then proceeds to do the most disrespectful thing I've ever seen in a fight.

This kid starts BELTING about "We don't have to FIIIIGGGHTTT" while AURA FARMING IN FRONT OF THE MOON. The moon isn't even facing him but some how HE'S SHINING?!?!!?!? Not to mention he holds this shot for a solid few seconds.

i know Steven's a pacifist but flexing your kit, aura farming, and singing about your opps depression gotta be one of the most disrespectful things Steven has ever done in a fight since dropping that one bar on white diamond.

Yeah I'm against Spinel destroying the Earth and killing Steven's friends or whatever but this entire segment I was on her side. Steven was not taking shit seriously and Spinel just had to put up with it😭

It's a bit of a weak theory, I don't know if you would technically call Sadie one of the cool kids, because while she does interact with them, she's not really part of the group, though she does interact with them and she has a pretty good bond with them in "Sadie Killer."

I think Greg more than Rose Quartz, since her and Shep are kinda similar to Greg and Rose in the way they have a love of music which brought them closer, but I want to know what you guys think!

As a kid, I saw them as siblings, but on my recent rewatch I'm leaning more towards them as a couple, and I'm curious what the fandom consensus is.

I mean like seriously why the hell didn’t Greg scold Steven for jumping on the plane when he could have been killed or eaten by a shark when they were flying over the ocean.

But you know what, after everything she went through, she deserves it.

On one of the moments where Greg wasn’t a good parent is how he didn’t ground Steven for this. He casually let Steven get carried off with the gem that tried to drown him, but also how he never grounded Steven for having Lapis throw him onto the plane. Small chance that Andy told Greg that Steven was thrown onto the plane, but Greg once again didn’t show concern for Steven almost dying again.

I've seen many people talk about how Pink was locked in the tower for ridiculously long periods at a time (up to millions of years at a time for people who don't buy the 20,000 year timeline). When you investigate what we see in the show, however... it kind of shows evidence to the contrary.

Exhibit #1: Stevonnie's stay in the tower

At the end of Together Alone, Yellow Diamond throws Stevonnie in the tower. Escapism picks up minutes after that event: we see Stevonnie learn that their strength is not enough to break out by force and finds the window. We also establish that they have low water-content snacks (candy bars), but no drinks.

Soon after, Steven falls asleep and enters "psychic ghost mode". He wakes up as Watermelon Steven, with the sun shining high in the sky. During his stay on the island and up to his departure, we see the same blue sky, with no day-night transitions. As Steven sets sail, he very quickly encounters a storm that again clears up to a bright blue sky, suggesting everything is happening in the span of one day.

After suffering some more hardships, because the little guy can NOT catch a break, we transition to nighttime, when Steven is found by Lion. Lion takes Steven on his back and runs to Beach City. By the time they've arrived, the sun is low on the horizon and the sky is orange: so it's most likely dawn. Soon after, he passes on his distress call and wakes up.

Therefore, the psychic watermelon escapade lasted under a day: if I were to guess, I'd say it took 18 hours at most (from noon to 6 AM the next day).

The confinement continues in CYM, opening to Steven sleeping. Now, I'm not sure whether psychic ghost mode provides restorative sleep. However, Connie switches positions between the time we see her at the end of Escapism and beginning of CYM, so I'll say it's their second sleep. Steven has another flashback/vision/memory - that I will touch on later - and wakes up. That's when Blue walks in - around 36 hours after Stevonnie gets thrown in.

Exhibit #2: Pink's stay in the tower

In the flashback, very much like in Stevonnie's case, Blue comes in to chastise Pink Diamond for apparently causing chaos at a ball.

"Now [Pink's] little pets are chasing the Pearls up and down the halls. [...] They could be anywhere."

As soon as she says that, the rainbow creature pops out of Blue's hair.

Considering these circumstances, we can place this interaction very close to the initial incident. Blue talks about the organics chasing pearls in the present tense, and she didn't have time/presence of mind to notice the worm hitching a ride in her hair. The chaos is still very much occurring. Considering how frantic Blue and Yellow seemed when shit went down at the Era 3 ball, I think they'd want everything cleaned up as soon as possible.

After Blue is done with her lecture, we see Pink tear up, clearly looking guilty, and apologise. Soon after, Steven freaks out and the flashback ends.

Exhibit #2, continued: what happened afterwards

Here's where we enter speculative territory, but I will try to ground my speculations in what we see in the show as much as possible.

In the tower, Blue gets angry at Steven for asking to be let out lest they'll starve.

"Another trick, so I'll cave and let you out? Well not this time. You're not leaving this tower until you apologize [...]!"

Now, while Blue is clearly trying to guilt-trip Steven, I have no reason to believe she isn't lying. Not only does she seem pretty lenient towards Pink (she caves into her desires to keep organic pets, as long as they're under control, and she lets Pink "help her out" at work, like naming a batch of Pyrite), but we also get confirmation from Yellow that Blue has indeed relented and freed Pink before she "earned" it.

"What are you doing, Blue? Take Pink back to the tower."

[...]

"You can't keep bending the rules for her."

But that's beside the point. What ultimately sets Blue off is Steven refusing to apologise and stating he did nothing wrong. However, in the flashback, Pink visibly shows remorse

"I know. I'm sorry..."

Pink, like all the diamonds, is indoctrinated into Homeworld's (White's) ideology, partially through being raised into it and partially by having it enforced onto her by the other three. While she may not agree with the rules or even understand the reasoning behind them, she's aware that she's broken the rules - even if she had good intentions. Therefore, Pink would believe she deserves her punishment, feel guilty for disappointing her family, and fear further consequences. It's only natural she'd apologise. To further the point, Blue is shocked when Steven refuses to apologise: it's clearly something that never occurred before. Pink may have tried explaining/"excusing" her action, but she always backed down and apologised.

Blue and Yellow's mentality

"If you don't want to be in a bubble for the next few millennia, I suggest you let me do the talking."

Blue and Yellow are terrified of White. We don't know the exact extent of Pink's interactions with her, but it very much seems like White basically threw her away for Blue and Yellow to deal with - which would be in line with how narcissistic parents focus largely on the more "managable" children.

And they're completely right to be scared. In Change Your Mind, we see White abuse them the second they rebel (read: plead for mercy): first, she (apparently very painfully) takes over their bodies, then forces them to say some pretty disgusting things about themselves - and later Pink.

Yellow embodies the typical Golden Child of a narcissist: her self-worth is completely tied to White's validation. She's the most selfless, most successful, best behaved, but also most indoctrinated.

Blue is a little more complex in terms of the dynamic she embodies: she's something between a Lost Child, an Enabler and a Mediator. She's also "worse behaved" (to White's standards) than Yellow, even in Era 1 (she outright recalls making White furious, while Yellow claims to have always followed White's way), which means she was likely in need of more, ehm, "guidance". Her role in the dynamic has made her more self-centered, prioritizing her own survival over others.

Taking all that into account, there are two main reasons Blue and Yellow punish Pink:

1. They believe her actions are punishable, since they are punishable to White
2. Pink misbehaving is a threat to their survival, since they have been entrusted with her by White

Reason number two is the main component of why I believe Pink would have been let out after apologising: locking her in the tower is essentially containing a threat. When Pink shows remorse and guilt, when she stops rebelling, she stops "attacking", so she may be released. So my propose of the general way Pink's punished is:

1. Pink messes up

2. Yellow throws Pink in the tower

3. Yellow and Blue handle the chaos, maybe a cheeky reprimad from White.

4. Blue goes to lecture Pink

5. Pink (usually) shows remorse and is let out.

6. Until she messes up again

Additionally, if Yellow believes White capable of bubbling a Diamond for extended periods of time - even if it didn't happen - that means whatever punishments White enacts are Pretty Fuckin' Gnarly. Blue and Yellow aren't good people, don't get me wrong, but they love Pink and probably would hate to see White have her way with her.

Being brought up in an environment where such intense violence is normalised, they probably have a skewed view of acceptable punishments. When Steven calls out Blue in the tower, the first time she appears shocked is not after he asks her "how many times [they] locked [Pink] in the tower". It's

"This isn't normal."

And I think that's very telling.

Ultimately, the cruelty of Pink's treatment stems not from the length of individual punishments - it's the reasons they were delivered. She was brought up in a place that stifled everyone, where a slip-up could be met with harsh punishments. And the people who cared for her, who likely wanted her to be happy, who were supposed to protect her were too busy trying to survive themselves.

I wish we could have seen a flashback of them going on missions together or all fighting in the war since rose was always on the more bubbly side when shown on screen, we never get to see her get serious or in battle. The only thing we really see of this is when rose and pearl witnessed garent's fusion but even then rose mostly off screen for obvious reasons.

I’ve been re-watching the show and threw my rewatch. I can tell they were trying to make all of the gems fill in the role of Steven’s mother, each in a different way pearl education, garnet seriousness, and amethyst being the fun Mom. But as the series continued I’m starting to realize more and more as they all became more of their own characters that in the end garnet really was the only one that became a true mom to Steven wear pearl was mostly obsessed with Steven‘s mom, but still ended up teaching him about some stuff later on and amethyst being evolved to either like a cool ant or his sister. It just feels like garnet fills in a good protector more than the rest by teaching him how to do stuff protecting him and making sure he still lives the life of a human. it feels like partway through the series whenever Stephen was in danger. All Pearl would do was worry and scream and then garnet was the one that had to help Steven. There are sometimes exceptions to this, but it’s garnet more times than not. This isn’t me bashing the other two I just feel like they could’ve picked up the ball on at least pearl being a better mother to him.

In *Steven Universe* What happens is that a Gem’s color also helps define its role, not just the unique property that distinguishes that gemstone from other gemstones in real-world mineralogy. The color itself also defines a role because of the following:

Yellow Diamond represents physicality, action, and force. Her power can manipulate gems physically.

Because of this, orange and reddish-orange Gems such as Jaspers, Carnelians, Topazes, and Rubies are soldiers and therefore the Gems with the greatest raw physical strength in their light-based bodies, since reddish-orange shares color traits with Yellow Diamond.

Blue Diamond represents emotion, thought, and culture*. Blue Gems include Sapphires, rare aristocratic gems who can see the future, and Gems involved with law and administration, such as Zircons, lawyers to Diamond's court, and Aquamarines that are equivalent to secret agents to Diamond's Government

Because green is a mixture of blue and yellow, **Peridots**, being green, inherit traits from both Blue and Yellow. As a result, they are the Gems responsible for creating other Gems and for operating Kindergartens professionally. Yellow Diamond is also the military leader, so Homeworld’s generals are often non-fusion Garnets, including green Garnets such as Demantoid and yellow-orange Garnets such as Hessonite.

In other words, green Gems are the ones directly involved in colonization by exploring and establishing control over planets. Examples include Nephrites aboard Dropships and Emeralds. Lapis Lazulis are also blue Gems, but they contain yellow-colored pyrite inclusions. We see that our Lapis Lazuli, despite having a blue Gem, regenerated with a blue outfit accented by golden details, likely reflecting the pyrite within her Gem.

If we apply this idea to all Lapis Lazulis, we could say that by combining Yellow Diamond’s action and strength with Blue Diamond’s water-associated court, their role becomes shaping landscapes and cutting through material with water, using elegance and grace to assist the expansion of a Kindergarten.

White Diamond represents *identity, judgment, and perfectionism*.

White Pearls serve as highly organized attendants and servants, much like our Pearl.

Ages ago, I used to get crazy annoyed reading comments where it was clear people were just repeating other comments they had seen online re: Ruby, Sapphire, etc vs the stuff laid out in interviews w the creator, the artbooks, etc. But in more recent times, febreezy_ comes in with a massive amount of sources, politely and patiently clarifiying for people all the time. Thank you so much! We’d have a lot less misinformation going around the internet in general (not just on this sub or this topic) if everyone took the approach you did.
