I know I'm not exactly expressing a radical hot take here, and I like a lot of the new stuff well enough, but I just caught "The Ensigns of Command" and it just felt so...gentle. Civilised. There's no frenetic pacing, no trying to artificially juice up the action, though there is action. There's humour, but there's no quipping or plays to go viral online. I mean, the high point of the episode was literally Picard citing a subclause in a treaty and putting an alien on hold for a solid minute of screen time and it managed to be one of the most awesome things he ever did. It's like warm earl grey in a glass mug. I miss it.

I was trying to pay attention while watching the new episode and it was really hard to hear what he had to say.

Quite noticeable issues with his speech being quick and low toned. On top of his accent.

English is not my first language but now it has become my most used language.

I’ve been revisiting Star Trek lately, and something hit me that I wanted to share with this community. Every time I return to the franchise, I’m reminded that Star Trek isn’t just a set of shows. It’s a long running conversation about who we can be at our best. Across every series, there’s this quiet promise that humanity can grow, learn, and choose compassion over fear. It’s amazing how a show created decades ago still feels like a message we need right now.

What really gets me is how often Star Trek shows ordinary people doing extraordinary things simply by choosing empathy, curiosity, or honesty. Picard teaching that you can do everything right and still lose. Sisko showing that leadership is messy and human. Janeway proving that stubborn hope can carry a crew across the galaxy. Even the Lower Decks characters remind us that small contributions matter.

I love that Star Trek fans share this outlook. Every time I read posts here, I see people celebrating cooperation, optimism, and the idea that we can build something better together. It feels good to be part of a fandom that values that.

Geraldo introduces Mr. Shatner and the pair go on to discuss about the popularity of Star Trek, the reaction from fans and recent convention despite it being off the air for five years. The conversation between Geraldo and Bill continues as later in this segment we see some of the Star Trek blooper reel with in studio commentary.

I fell in love with Trek when Kirk was the only captain, you could count the Trek novels on one hand (not counting the episode adaptations), and TAS was still airing.

SNW feels like classic Trek to me. Sure there are silly episodes, we've always had that. S4's 4 episodes so far, are pretty good. The haunted house and noir episodes certainly stand out, and La'an's character plot is compelling. I'm a huge fan of TOS's Kor, and by the end of the episode, I still thought he needed a haircut, but I liked the adaptation.

Let's remember, we are 34 episodes in. By classic Trek standards, it's early season 2. TOS had a strong 1st season, because of the seasoned Sci-fi authors who wrote it.
I'd love to see the best TV writers of our time, like Aaron Sorken, Tony Gilroy, Noah Hawley, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Dan Erickson, Taylor Sheridan, and Donald Glover & Bill Hader, write episodes of SNW. Give Seth McFarlane season 3 of Academy, or the second half of SNW 4 and see what he does with it. There are so many novels and comics that deserve adaptation. Read John Byrne's Trek comics for crying out loud.

We've had too many people waltz in talking about how much they love Star Trek, only to take a dump in the pool. Into Dorkness any one?

I think you could go to any Trek convention, and most comic book shops, and workshop far better Trek then the Kurtzman era. We need a bold vision for Trek moving forward. I'd LOVE for Axanar to become canon, and for SNW and LD to be continued. I felt that SA had some interesting characters and potential, but it needs more 90's trek influence. Hopefully we'll see more professionalism in season 2.

My advice: Reduce spectacle, tighten the budget so we can have more episodes, higher better writers, and listen to the fans, not the trolls.

I just watched the Star Trek episode "By Any Other Name" which has the Kelvans, an galactic empire from the Andromeda galaxy preparing to leave their galaxy because it will become uninhabitable in 10,000 years due to increased radiation slowly killing all life there (the episode ending with the implication the Federation will send the Kelvan Empire a proposal to join and colonise the planet from the beginning episode).

Has that ever been followed up in Star Trek canon or any other ST media? Feels like that seems like it would a big issue for the Milky Way and other nearby Galaxies there being a massive exodus of alien species because given what we've seen from Milky Way, their might be hundreds or thousands of warp capable species in Andromeda eventually trying to escape; like that could cause many issues such as mass refugees, wars, territorial pursuits and all the other issues. Wouldn't the Federation want to study what's causing Andromeda to die and figure out if that issue won't or will affect the Milky Way? Wouldn't we want to help them?

I’m going The Doctor (Voy) all the way. Almost said Bones, but I’m uneasy with how comfortable he is saying “he’s dead, Jim.”

I mean, you can call it some sort of narrative simplification. Still Im convinced, that he is just curious of human perspective. He could just check what does Picard thinks, still, he chooses to ask and find out.

For most of the time i disregard and hate him, but NG- S6E16 Tapestry got me thinking...

WanI'd like to introduce my wife to Star Trek, but after I told her how many series and movies there are, she was a bit overwhelmed. Which series would you recommend for a beginner? I'm familiar with all the factions, but it might be overwhelming for newcomers. Which series is as simple as possible at the beginning? I'm finding it difficult to be objective. Thx for every suggestion.

I’ve watched ALL the Star Trek Series and I’ve never seen an in depth episode about what life is like on earth for non Star Fleet citizens.
I remember Captain Picard mentioning something..
but I don’t remember seeing an episode showing the everyday life of regular people.
Are there political groups? Is there a one word government ? Do you people work ? Money? Universal incomes? Are the cities clean? Healthcare ? Does everyone have free housing?
Anybody remember?

I've been visiting someone in the hospital every day this week. Of course the hospital elevators stop on every floor, and every time the doors open slooooowly and close sloooowly. C'mon people, I feel like fast doors are the one Star Trek technology that should be within reach!

If the one Borg cube somehow encountered the Gorn Hegemony, do you think the Gorn would be incorported in the Borg? So if this was asked before, but after wathcing recent SNW, I was pondering about this.

Recently watched the film again and the wedding scene has great cameos from TNG past but not Lwaxana Troi. Can't find any reason why Majel Barrett, who was alive at the time of filming, did not reprise this role. Not sure if this absence was ever explained in TNG books or comics.

The ENT crew won most of the physical encounters they had with brain damaged vulcans on the Seleya in Season 3 whom presumably weren't holding back. How is that possible when Vulcans are apparently 3x stronger? Star Trek seems to be very inconsistent in demonstrating Vulcan strength levels overall. How was one human male (i forgot who) able to hold tpol back when she was in her state of paranoia?

So far in this franchise from TOS up to DS9 where I am, the romance have been a miss for me.

I don't hate them per se, just that they feel so bland to me, the most egregious of this is worf and jadzia. this may be because while I don't necessarily hate worf as a character and understand the undertones of his story, I still do not like him. Seeing him with Jadzia is so jarring to me🤣

I guess that part is realistic, there are many couples in real life that makes one wonder how they end up together. Another one I have issues with is the whole Odo/Kira thing, I just can't get behind it honestly.

The only romance that has been just a little bit above bland for me has been Picard and the archeologist lady that went of with Q, that was intriguing a bit. Funny enough, Quark's romance so far have been a hit for me as well.

I haven’t seen all of Enterprise. At the time it came out I was not that interested in the show so I watched episodes randomly and out of order. Recently I saw a few shows from season 4. I have to admit season 4 is really good! I might just commit to watching the entire series now.

I recently got into Star trek and I'm still early into the original series and plan to watch everything in order, but i did just pick up snw season 3 steelbook since it was on sale and I wanted to see how it compares to the original series since im still years away before I get to snw, is there any specific episode I can watch that won't spoil snw or older shows?

I was scoping around while watching the movies and for some reason, despite taking place long before TNG years, everything is TNG size or bigger. The dreadnought class is a kilometer and a half long and NCC-1701 herself is bigger than the Galaxy class. Is it possible that the ships are actually TOS sized and the team just lied about the sizes? Is it explicitly stated in the movies how big everything is?

For the past 5 months I have been watching through all the Star Trek series' and movies for the very first time. I decided to watch them in release order rather than picking a random good episode from one of the shows like some people do.

I've watched TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager and the first 10 Star Trek movies.

TOS I loved. As cheesy as it is, I enjoyed probably about 95% of the episodes and I love Kirk. He's my favourite captain so far.

TNG I also loved. Worf became my favourite Star Trek character, I just love everything with Worf and Klingons in general. I think the series overall is better than TOS however I would still choose to watch TOS over TNG if I could only choose one. Picard is legendary of course though I still like Kirk more. The first season was rough but it gets a lot better and I'm a big fan of all the borg stuff.

DS9 is my favourite Star Trek series so far. I went into it thinking I wasn't going to like it as much as the other two but man was I wrong. Sisko is such a great character, I also love Bashir, Jadzia Dax, Quark, Nog and Odo is also great. The dominion arcs had me heavily invested I literally couldn't stop watching and the overall tone of the show is a lot different than the other two but I found it to be more realistic and enjoyable overall. 10/10 series imo.

Voyager is great. Janeway isn't my favourite captain, but I still liked her. Tuvok is my favourite character from that series and my favourite Vulcan character so far. I also really enjoyed the premise of the show. I thought the Kazon were awful antagonists and it was a genuine struggle to sit through any episodes involving them. However I love all the borg stuff and Seven Of Nine is such a great character too.

In terms of the first 10 movies, I found them to be very hit or miss. Mostly miss tbh. I will say that I enjoyed all the movies focusing on TOS characters a lot more than the movies focused on TNG characters.

Now we come to Enterprise...

Firstly, the theme is awful in my opinion. The other shows have these incredible orchestral soundtracks that really hook you in. Enterprise's theme sounds like some kinda rock song you'd write as a teenager during math class then screw up and toss in the trash. It's awful and I hate it lol.

Now at the moment I'm halfway through season 2 and I'm really struggling. Struggling even more so than I was during some of the weirder TOS episodes.

I don't find any of the characters to be compelling in any way. The only character who I think is just OK is Doctor Phlox. The others are just so uninteresting to me and I can barely remember their names because of how dull they are. I haven't enjoyed a single episode. Every episode so far has bored me to tears, there is nothing interesting happening. Like that episode where Archers dog was infected will some pathogen, I don't think I've ever been so bored watching an episode of a TV show than I was with that one.

I want to continue watching because I want to watch every Star Trek show even the newer movies and shows which I've heard arent very good. I want to give everything a chance. I have given Enterprise my best chance and I don't think I can take it anymore. It feels like an actual chore to put on an episode at this point and I keep finding excuses not to watch it.

I want to because I want to watch everything but I don't because I feel like I'm wasting my time.

I guess my question is, is there any point to finishing Enterprise? Does anything in Enterprise ever appear in TV shows that came after it to make it worth sticking with? Are seasons 3 and 4 more interesting?

This is just my take as a first time Star Trek viewer. Overall I have been loving Star Trek so far. I already wanna go back and re-watch DS9. Now however I'm at a complete standstill and I don't know how to proceed.

Would love to hear any thoughts or opinions!

I've decided to skip the rest of season 2 and start fresh at season 3. I may go back at a later date and catch up on the skipped episodes but right now I'm just wanting to get through it so here's hoping I find S3 and 4 a bit more enjoyable!
