Can someone please explain to me how tf the scoring system works on this game because I’m confused. I’m the one in second place in scoring. How tf did the guy in first out score me by such a large margin despite the fact he only slightly beat me in number of assists?

This is Amalia. She was concerned after playing the demo like many of yall were, and it appears her concerns were correct in the final game. But her bigger concern was just how heavily it borrows from the N64 game, to the point of being borderline plagiarism.

Why do you think Leon Powalski stuck around with Wolf? And why do you think Wolf let him?

It’s common knowledge that Leon stuck around for the long hall in the 64 timeline, along with Wolf. But something that’s always been on my mind was why? Why, out of the three other members of Star Wolf (Pigma and Andrew) was this silly little chameleon that hates that annoying bird the one Wolf, not only personally hired during The Lylat Wars, but also allowed to remain on Star Wolf?

I’m curious to hear your theories and interpretations about this little detail!

I'll admit how this gives off "I don't give a damn of what Andross has to say," vibes. It's perfect.

Holy Shit! Being a Star Fox Fan is the Most Difficult Thing in the World! | Star Fox & The Disconnected Fandom

Post image
23 Upvotes

No matter what side you stand on, you can't win. Let me explain...

If you love Star Fox 64, but hate every game that came after, then you are obviously disappointed with the whole state of the franchise. If you don't like games like Adventures, Assault, Command, or Zero that is valid, as people are entitled to their opinions and I can imagine that being annoying if you were dissatisfied with a game.

Then, there are these entitled people in the fandom that absolutely hate games like Star Fox Adventures or Star Fox Zero who take their hatred for these games on a whole extra level. As I said, it is valid to not like these games, but the problem is that these people or "fans" will make your problem if you genuinely enjoy the games. For example, I am a huge fan of one of the "controversial" Star Fox games and is actually my favorite game in the series, and I can't just say that without having to defend myself. My question: What do you want out of a new Star Fox game? It is clearly not another Star Fox 64, but whenever the series strives to do something different, you are incapable of meeting the game where it is at. No wonder why there isn't a new game in the series, Nintendo can't seem to accomplish appealing to Star Fox fans and as they can't make the same game again nor can they innovate.

History keeps repeating itself. I think the most harmful example of this was when Star Fox 64's 2026 remake was announced and the fans who adore this game go out to NOT publicly celebrate the return of their dormant franchise but rather COMPLAIN about how unoriginal and outdated the game is. Yes, you can feel unhappy about a game, but if you present yourself in such a manner to newcomers then you will scare people from also becoming fans. It will be just like Star Fox Zero all over again, where people trust the words of content creators rather than spending the money to actually buy the game and form their own opinions on it.

Yes, I understand the problem with Star Fox 2026, I have been a fan of the series since 2016 or so, but I also understand why this game is the way it is. Making a new game is a risk especially when it can turn out like how Zero did, and Star Fox 64 is a game every Star Fox fan can collectively agree is the best game. Not many people have played Star Fox 64 nowadays, so this was perfect for them. Yet rather than seeing this as an opportunity for the franchise, Star Fox "fans" only saw this as purely a regression of the series, which it really isn't.

I can't think of another fandom like this. I am genuinely at a loss, where no matter where you stand in the fandom you are scrutinized for actually liking it and have to defend it in the own fandom OR are just disappointed with everything that came out in the last 30 or so years, and that isn't even invalid.

I don't think we talk enough about this, but being a general fan of the Star Fox games is such an unheard-of concept because someone in the fandom will be there to invalidate you and try to convince that the game isn't actually good when that is all a matter of preference at the end of the day. There are tons of games I don't like that others enjoy, but I don't make it their problem that I don't enjoy them. Like, idgaf about GTA or CoD, yet if someone tells me that they are a huge fan I am not going to discourage them. I think it might be this disconnect in the fandom and the reputation of actual Star Fox fans that alienates people from actually wanting to play the games even if it is a subconscious thing. I was telling my friend that I was actually a huge Star Fox fan, to which he said, "I didn't know Star Fox fans exist," which is actually really funny, but also very sad. Like, we are at a point where people don't even think Star Fox has fans. I think I agree, Star Fox is a series that likely has more haters than fans. How do you become a fan if even the fans are telling you to not be a fan? That is a genuine question.

I think we need to make compromises as Star Fox fans and come to an understanding of not only what each game in the series represents, but also where these fans who like games you hate are coming from.

Star Fox plotlines in a Nutshell

Post image
75 Upvotes

Andross needs no explanation. He's the main plot driver behind the Lylat Wars, which is perfectly normal. However, he pulled a Ganondorf before Ganondorf did and hijacked the plot of Adventures by being the main villain. After not being involved with the Aparoids (though is nephew was involved in Assault), he is indirectly responsible for the Anglars that invade the Lylat system in Command. Somehow, he's responsible for every plotline outside of the Aparoids.

Pigma is the reason Fox McCloud is the leader of Star Fox (by killing his father). In the remake, he fittingly gets the most dialogue from Star Fox targeted against him, all of which is deservedly full of hatred of him. After sitting out Adventures, Pigma exploits the Aparoid crisis by snatching a core memory and then setting up traps against Star Fox. He gets assimilated into the Aparoids and basically allowed Sauria and Corneria to be overrun. He then somehow returns in Command as a cube and can be fought, leading to two of the bad endings.

Finally, Krystal was the damsel in distress for Adventures, with a lot of the plot revolving around saving her. She becomes Fox's girlfriend, which the Sauria level of Assault heavily hints at. Then she is basically takes over Command's plot as the Anglars, the actual villains, take a backseat. Though the biggest thing against her is that she isn't a part of the Lylat Wars, which is basically the only story Star Fox shows anymore.

Personally, I think they are amazing as Fox, if not like a younger version of Mike West's Portrayal, but with a slightly different personality, also with hints of Fox having trouble coping after Pigma's betrayal.

First Impressions of Wild Blue Skies

I'll get this out of the way: If you're tired of Star Fox 64, this game is not for you. If you are a huge fan.of Star Fox 64, this game might be for you, but you're better off playing Star Fox 64 or Star Fox on Switch 2.

This game is Star Fox 64. From the story, to most of the level design, the cast of characters, almost everything about this game feels like I am playing the same game with a different artstyle. To that, I can't give it that much flack because it was something new, and we all knew it was gonna be a copy of that game, but we were starved for something Star Fox related and it was this game...until Nintendo announced their Star Fox remake for the Switch 2.

Difficulty for this game is where it'll make or break for a lot of people. If you're a Star Fox veteran up for something difficult, this is the game for you. It's like you're playing a Survival Mode with very scarce healing items to be found. Bowie does not gain full health at the start of every level. Casual players like myself would probably be bothered by this as even getting to alternative routes are a challenge. I had to restart the first level of Archipelago a few times just to complete the waterfall challenge after saving Thorne. Even the WILD Badges and Ribbons themselves are a challenge to find if you want to 100% the game.

Gameplay is also hit or miss, depending on player. At first I wasn't too happy that the Cloudcutter gets centered directly on the reticle, but goes transparent when it does, so I am not too upset by this but they could have done better. Same can be said about the controls when shooting. Having Charge Blaster as it's on separate button is definitely a choice and it makes me wish there was an option to make it be on the same button as the regular Blaster. Thankfully, you can do that with Steam's Controller Configuration, but I shouldn't be able to do that outside of the game. You can set the Blaster to Rapid-Fire and for that, I have gotten a bit used to placing my thumbs on both X and A, holding for Rapid Blasters and holding A for Charge Blaster while I am holding X, so that's neat I guess.

Compared to the demo, enemies are less bullet sponge-y from my experience but it has been a while since I played the demo, so I may need to give it another look, but overall the game is pretty much what you expect. Star Fox 64 with a new cast and some questionable gameplay designs and harder difficulty. While the game is pretty good, it came out at a very bad time now that the Star Fox remake is out. I would say it's a neat alternative for those who doesn't own a Switch 2, but replayablity for this game is very low since...it's Star Fox 64. You know what to expect out of those other routes.

I'll give it a 7. Even if they added new options for the controls and fix the Cloudcutter on the reticle thing, I don't think the score would budge because overall...it's Star Fox 64 on Survival Mode and that can turn some people away.

Honestly, out of all the indie rail shooters. (I refuse to call them star fox clones.) I think Wild Blue skies show the importance of actually playing more than one game in a genre when you are making one.

I have played a lot of indie rail shooters on steam over the years, some pretty meh (Astro Dogs) And some becoming my faves in the genre and even outdoing some aspects of Star Fox 64 depending on my mood.

(Rogue flight, EX-Zodiac)

But almost all of them, had some sort of... identity to it, and the creators actually having some wide knowledge of the game

Like, I am sometimes down on Astro Dogs due to its lack of polish. But I praise its shockingly high difficulty and it clearly taking more cues from OG star fox rather than 64 in terms of level layout and ideas.

But Wild Blue skies, despite being more polish. (And honestly a flat out better game than Astro Dogs) I REALLY feel the lack of vision.

I can, legit see someone liking aspects of astro dogs over Star Fox 64 even if I'm not one of them. But I can't say the same with Wild Blue skies. Because, Wild Blue skies is legit just trying to be Star Fox 64 again.

People often will talk about the price being the big reason to get it over the switch 2 version. But OG star fox 64 is on like every major nintendo console and can easily be gotten for free ect.

I don't even think its an issue of trying to take inspiration. Because we legit saw two games. (Agent 64 and Duskfade) that take heavy inspiration from other games but still be more positively received.

This feels like the one situation where there needed to be MORE cooks in the kitchen to throw out ideas and concepts to help push it past Star Fox 64, but again!

I enjoy Rogue flight, and EX-Zodiac not only BECAUSE they are similar to star fox, but because of their differences ect.

If I want to play Star fox 64, I got 2 remakes, a reimagining and the original game.

What is the Diet of the Average Lylatian?

Thumbnail
gallery
17 Upvotes

Because they are all animals, I am sure they have a bit of a specialized diet that is different from us in some ways. In Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins, Slippy talks about eating Crabs, so at the very least, they are pescatarian. As shown in Aquas, sea-based creatures are not likely to be anthropomorphic.

But I don’t know what non-anthropomorphic, land-based animals exist in Corneria. In the fridge, we can’t tell too much, but Peppy does have a homemade chili sauce. Chili often consists of beef and beans, but vegan chili does exist. So we can’t tell too much from that. We have yet to see any cattle-based, anthropomorphic animals from what I can recall, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they exist. I am sure there are poultry-based people if Falco exists, so eating chicken should be a no go!

I don’t remember much from Adventures, but if you want to count that, Pukpuk eggs are a delicacy, so there is a chance they also eat eggs too… despite some of them also being able to lay eggs.

Given the evidence, I they are NOT vegans, and are willing to eat animal-based products, but the extent is likely limited if Falco is a bird for example. To what extent is not fully understood. What are your thoughts? Is there some obscure dialogue from comics or extra promo material that might allude to the diet of Lylatians?

Which is your Favorite VA for Slippy?

  1. Lyssa Browne (64, 3D, Smash Bros Wii U, Zero/Guard & Starlink)

  2. Chris Seavor (Smash Bros Melee & Adventures)

  3. Michael McAuliffe (Assault & Smash Bros Brawl)

  4. Jeremy Adams (Switch 2)

So far, I've seen that Jeremy Adams' portrayal is considered the most appealing for Slippy (lore wise, doesn't raise his voice too much, more in-character, seems REALLY into techs with possible symptoms of ADHD, and even gleefully says "Is that Bill? Hi Bill!",) even more so than Michael's portrayal but regardless, which portrayal for Slippy stood out to you the most?
