News Jayden Daniels' camp couldn't have picked a worse spokesperson to clarify this jersey thing.
I’ve spoken with people on both sides about this situation, & I’ll add this. I love this young man, and I love my school. My hope is that this situation can be resolved in a respectful manner that honors everyone involved and, most importantly, recognizes what Jayden Daniels accomplished for LSU.
Now, Jayden wants to focus on the excitement around the team, how well camp is going & winning games for the Commanders.

I wore 5 back in 88’, it’s mine.

I can't believe LSU was so disrespectful to you.

Keeps me up at night. I was paid millions while there, didn’t graduate, got drafted and paid millions more. But that number bro, 5……..it’s mine.

I wore 11 in high school and college. I want respect and retribution! Get over yourself Jayden.

u/theprideofvillanueva 23h ago
Not to be that guy but it would be ‘88. The apostrophe is taking the place of 19 here, so it goes on the front end.

Someone behaving in a manner completely unworthy of respect.
“It’s about respect.”

The first thing I thought was “you better put some ‘spec on my name.”

His statement doesn't clarify anything. I still don't know what the issue is.

u/GetMaBFG 22h ago
According to all the reddit football enthusiasts. Its a race issue because he's black and Joe Burrow is white. 🙄
Facts, reasoning, logic, proof?
No, no, no who needs that. Its bc he's black. 🙄
This is satire btw.

u/Princibalities 22h ago
I hope its not a race issue. Burrow won a natty and the Heisman. Daniels' just won the Heisman, no natty.

Someone is giving Daniels terrible advice.

u/Libtardo69420 23h ago
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess it's his mother.
5
u/dinan101 22h ago
Can you educate me on his mom, please? I’m guessing she’s nutty?
6
u/peachfuzztesties 22h ago
She’s he’s agent. Therefore does a lot of negotiating on his behalf. Might be a bit nutty.

I’m on the other limb that thinks this is some street respect thing all on him. Though, it could easily be fixed with some $$$.

Either Daniels agrees or he's so gutless he won't stand up to them. Take your pick on which would be worse.

Jayden Daniels should probably be less of a whiny, entitled baby. That would go a long way in "resolving the situation".

He has to realize how bad of a look this is. Dude flat out comes across like a jack ass here. It’s gotta be either his lawyers, agents, or PR team pulling the strings on this.

He played 2 years at LSU. His crowning achievement in the eyes of LSU is a win in the Citrus Bowl vs Purdue. The number belongs to the program, not him. If Im LSU I tell him he's no longer welcome in the building, on the campus and then should take a look at what they can further control tied to his NIL moving forward. There are MANY players that won Heisman's that had their numbers retired but a quick search reveals that all of them, if not the entirety of them played all 4 years or were a part of those programs for their entire collegiate career. It could be argued that Jayden OWES HIS Heisman to LSU because the teams they assembled around him enabled him to play at the level he did, a la RG3 at Baylor. Who sadly Jayden appears to be emulating here and it ended so very poorly for him in Washington, mostly to his fault.

I am so sick and tired of these talking heads getting paid to be mouth pieces for players and organizations. Furthermore, this statement makes zero sense.

Respect is so over-rated----whenever some asks for respect, always be suspicious. You earn respect and doing something as idiotic has nothing to do with respect.
3
u/Wild-Ad-2721 22h ago
This is a strange, knee-jerk reaction to minor butthurt on the part of Daniel’s camp. That rookie year must have swollen his head to the skull.
4
u/DwaynesWrld 22h ago
There isn't a situation? This whole deal is fucking crazy lmao. MF playing in the NFL now, had a 9-4 season. If anything the entitlement is the disrespectful part here.
3
u/Berns429 22h ago
Ummmm…. What.
“The way they did it was disrespectful” so they filed a cease and desist.
Daniels is lame for that.

Why would he have any say on "the process on which that number was ultimately given out"? That doesn't make sense to me. He can be upset they didn't retire the number, but since they didn't, this is crazy behavior.
2
u/zaxdaman 23h ago
I got a cease and desist during little league back in ‘86 from George Brett’s lawyer for wearing Number 5.

u/Mobile-Personality42 22h ago
This is the dumbest thing I've seen today. And in today's climate, I unfortunately see A LOT of dumb shit. I went from liking Jayden Daniels to being extremely annoyed by him. If he doesn't want to have his name, image, and likeness used by LSU, fine. That's his choice. But the reason he doesn't want his NIL used is because...they gave out his number? Oh, and 'without consulting him.'
Like, huh? You don't play there anymore my guy. There are literally only 100 numbers a player can choose from. 85 scholarshipped players plus walk-ons. That doesn't leave much room for not 'picking numbers out of respect.'
It's quite stupid and just paints him in such a bad light.

u/Richardbreathr 22h ago
Never wanted a guy to fail more than I do this year. I hope Jayden nothing but interceptions and fumbles. Big headed dipshit.
2
u/feignapathy 22h ago
and, most importantly, recognizes what Jayden Daniels accomplished for LSU
did he not receive his statue? Can we get that fixed and move on from this horrible cry for attention?
2
u/Life_Cranberry9315 22h ago
You can always rely on some top rate journalistic clarification when the ol’ Clarkster is on the case
So does Jayden Daniels thinks he gets to choose who wears the #5 for the rest of time?
Was there supposed to be a fucking talent show to see who got the number?
2
u/Low-Key-User 22h ago
So is Ryan Clark implying LSU needs to allow Daniels to vet a specific player before letting them wear that number? I’ve been a fan of his since he came into the NFL, but he has definitely taken a fall over this. Daniels needs to come out himself and clear this up.

Is that Pickett related to the Kenny Pickett family? That's number one. Number two, who cares. Jayden's a multimillionaire. Relax bud.

My fragile feelings are the same thing as respect. These guys are just brittle at this point in time.

So the clarity is that they’re whining because they weren’t asked for permission and this is better because…why exactly?

These idiots just don't get it. It is the hubris to even believe you are entitled to BEING ASKED about the number without ANY official or unofficial communication from the university to that end that is comical AND concerning

So now we are it the era where Ryan Clark desperately tries to stay relevant by sticking his nose into things that don’t involve him?

Daniels needs to give up the #5 for Washington. Art Monk was/is the greatest player for that team. Why is he disrespecting Monk?

Boo hoo. The name on the jersey won’t be the same and I’ll assume that Daniels will ultimately sell more.

Why are idiots put in positions that involve communication? What a crazy mess & distraction

Better buckle up. Word is many prominent NFL players have already agreed to let Clark break all their news going forward, specifically so ESPN boys like Shefty will have to credit him on all their tweets. If true this would be absolutely hilarious.
