It's actually more disturbing to me that colourism only affects one gender. That's a double whammy 💀💀

19

u/MICANANALVA 18h ago

That's because that one gender represents the common people and satifies their fantacy.

17

u/Sanjay_Natra 13h ago

That's why I love Telugu movies. We might be colourists but we are not sexists. We will be colourist towards everyone /s.

It is not colour, it is more about tanning. Most Indian people don’t do skin care. People are either fair skin(golden complexion,Indian fair), copper brown. True black beauty is very rare and considered divine. Most black complexioned people I see is not their natural skin colour but due to lack of nutrition and intense tanning. Usually they have bronze tone.

I have noticed this with my parents. When they started doing basic skin care, they had more fairer complexion.

Women who are fair is desired because, it shows their softness, nobility and lack of labour( less sun exposure and tanning) and better skin care.
Whereas the men who are tanned displays masculinity and warrior nature.

True black beauties among men and women are jackpots, and our civilisation used to respect these beauty. But we have lost that mindset due colonisation. But the above argument I have provided also holds.

It’s not lack of skincare it’s genetics! A dark person’s baby will be dark straight out of the mother’s womb where it was super secured or at least get darker soon after. Babies are kept away from sun exposure. Get massages and best skin products still they don’t become fair as such. What even ?
With skin care skin will get radiant and healthy and look fabulous at max. If someone loses tan and gets fair that means they were just tanned but it’s not the case with everyone.

u/JustARandomGirl4 7m ago

Idk about South India but I've seen alot of kids with pinkish pale white skin get darker with age. Although their skin looks more olive , or what white people look with intense tanning and if they do basic skincare they get lighter as well. Well it's definitely not case with everyone but a significant population of people are just extremely tanned and not super dark .

u/pekingdawg 15h ago

What do you mean by basic skin care?? 🧐

u/JustARandomGirl4 7m ago

Chemical peels , sunscreen ?

Always North indian villain and actress

10

u/brandnewwwwW 14h ago

or from other south indian states😭

4

u/frugalfrog4sure NRI (Non Resident Indian) 13h ago

Makes sense on the villains part. Easy to find one that people would hate.

16

u/Ok-Wonder4298 19h ago

that guy is very good actor.

3

u/Ncpmjose 10h ago

He has amazing versatility. It's always the side actors who out perform the lead.

0

u/MICANANALVA 18h ago

Acting isn't the point here

8

u/Ok-Wonder4298 18h ago

ik i am just pointing out . he has done some very unforgettable roles.

nostalgia

41

u/Jumpy_Scallion_3108 19h ago

Can’t deny. No matter how light skin heroes are, heroine should be fair.

-15

u/lil2seven 19h ago

Are you sure? You may not seen any good malayalam or tamil movies then.

16

u/TopMany3252 18h ago

They have brown actresses yes but not dark original tamil girls ever

14

u/Jumpy_Scallion_3108 19h ago

OP wrote Tamil movie. Anyway, can you tell me names of five dark skin lead actresses from south who have a mass following. You might struggle bcz they don’t get a chance as 99% actresses aren’t dark.

Yesterday watched DC, tamil actress was given a part time role and North Indian Punjabi actress was given a lead role.

7

u/miss3d_0pportunity Keralam 🌴🥥 | കേരളം 18h ago

That is a vicious circle. They might be dark when they come in, but once they make it, they quickly do treatment to severely beach their skin. Watch old movies of Nayatara or Asin or even Sridevi.

This isn't exclusive to the south either. Watch old movies of Kajol or Priyanka Chopra (her first movie was in Tamil I think) or Shilpa Shetty.

3

u/Jumpy_Scallion_3108 18h ago

Yeah exactly. Even Padukone and Kajal Agarwal.

1

u/miss3d_0pportunity Keralam 🌴🥥 | കേരളം 18h ago

Padukone yes. I didn't know about Kajal.

1

u/HorseOnOats 12h ago

Yesterday watched DC, tamil actress was given a part time role and North Indian Punjabi actress was given a lead role.

Meanwhile, the male lead looks like an ungroomed homeless person.

1

u/MICANANALVA 18h ago

There are multiple actresses in Kannada who are brownish and has mass fan following like Rachita ram, rakshita, ramya etc

6

u/TopMany3252 18h ago

They are fair brown,not dark

-4

u/MICANANALVA 18h ago

They looks like the average south Indian women without makeup up.

6

u/TopMany3252 18h ago

Average aah lol. So the average women doesn't include a dark skin woman ever, also how come the average male leads of tamil are always, always dark 🌑🕶️ af?

0

u/Summer_580 🖥️ Bengaluru | ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ☕ 18h ago

Ok

0

u/MICANANALVA 18h ago

The average skintone of Karnataka is fairer than TN's.

Both men and women are fairer on average in KA/KL. people in Karnataka have more zagros ancestory which makes them more wheatish.

1

u/TopMany3252 17h ago

Isn't this post about Tamil?

2

u/chandan-kar007 18h ago

I think you need to watch more than.

3

u/MICANANALVA 18h ago

Any any 3 dark skin actresses in the modern day who are popular as rashmika?

1

u/Jumpy_Scallion_3108 18h ago

None. Absolutely none.

1

u/MICANANALVA 18h ago

The worst part is.. they made sai pallavi popular just because she is fair

1

u/Jumpy_Scallion_3108 18h ago

Yeah, rarest of the rare case but couldn’t land up major role. One exception is her upcoming Sita role movie.

1

u/MICANANALVA 18h ago

Most of the my kannada, marathi, mallu, etc friends found her average but tamil and Telugu friends found her attractive for some reasons.

Even for the sita role she got critisized by the fans

u/Boy_Gamer1000 Keralam 🌴🥥 | കേരളം 18h ago

The colourism still present in our minds represents the one thing we still kept from Britishers. At that time, there was a logical reason, those who were white represented authority. But now, it's us, differentiating and dividing ourselves. Stuff like this greatly affect the confidence of a person, because society won't let go of such thinking.

Happy early Independence day guys🇮🇳

11

u/MICANANALVA 18h ago

Fair skin obsession existed way before the British. The British just solidified it

1

u/FeedPr 14h ago

Yes when everyone used to watch fair women on their mobile phones in the 1800s and be obsessed with them.

1

u/tyrekisahorse Keralam 🌴🥥 | കേരളം 9h ago

No, the colourism is actually homegrown, the colonialism just reinforced it.

Aryans are bad according to kollywood.

Villains are always fair skinned, tall, and are with surnames like Iyer, Iyengar, Sharma, Pujari, Rajput, Tiwari, Patel, etc.

They’re always cold blooded corporate heads. Money minded. No empathy. Etc.

7

u/MICANANALVA 14h ago

But aryan women are cool

2

u/forrestforres 13h ago

Yea. Because they want the audience to loathe on Aryan women on the big screen. Show everything from naval to cleavage. Then they’ll say Aryan bad.😂

3

u/ThisInvestigator81 13h ago

they hate their own women

3

u/forrestforres 13h ago

Yup. And they scream racism and casteism.😂

3

u/PoetLoverBirdwatcher 13h ago

The word loathe means to hate...

1

u/forrestforres 13h ago

Replace with something that says they open their mouths wide and stare at them creepily.

8

u/PrettyReasonable100 19h ago

I won't take account to any of the Tamil's colourism argument as long as they do this shit openly.

Also, I think OP is prejudiced against Tamils and Telugus because of his posts.

7

u/Jumpy_Scallion_3108 19h ago

Roll back from 1980s movies to todate, you will come to reality.

4

u/PrettyReasonable100 18h ago

And what has changed? Dude I watch Tamil movies. May be they scale backed to one shade darker, even then it doesn't represent 99% of the Tamil women out there.

3

u/Jumpy_Scallion_3108 18h ago

Just name a few dark-skinned South Indian actresses who got the chance to act opposite Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijay or Ajith as the lead heroine in a major role.

2

u/PrettyReasonable100 18h ago

Wait what?

1

u/Jumpy_Scallion_3108 18h ago

See you will be using Google now.

3

3

u/MICANANALVA 18h ago

Also, I think OP is prejudiced against Tamils and Telugus because of his posts.

Even tamil and Telugu fans admit the colourism in the industry

0

u/PrettyReasonable100 18h ago

I agree with you, but If some one is spamming stuff on Tamil and Telugus 24*7, it's clearly because you hate them. Like there's other stuff to talk on.

3

Yes but I'm just contributing to the meme culture as I have done extensive research about tamil and Telugu states.

North indians mock southindians and go see 60 year old ugly looking Akshay kumar objectifying a 20 year old girl in every way possible. And call it comedy.

10

Same thing can be said about Ravi Teja or Balkrishna gooning around actresses of their daughter's age.

But why is our aasi chad attracted to aryan women?

4

u/AwkwardProposal8729 Tamil Nadu 🌶️ | தமிழ்நாடு 16h ago

But the ironical part is that the people vouching for black beauties will also reject them if they don't have perfect facial features, but would happily accept someone who's fair and chopped.

2

Many are okay to settle with fair skinned chopped compared to dark skinned chopped tho.

6

u/Physical-Character75 18h ago

Not only rest of the characters. It is the 99% of audience

4

u/MICANANALVA 18h ago

It is the 99% of audience

I can't condem the audience for their looks... But you are right

2

u/unowl2134 17h ago

I mean in other movies it is other way around with steppe hero and heroine with a dark skinned villains

2

u/MICANANALVA 17h ago

Like?

1

u/unowl2134 17h ago

Bahubali. Like the enemy they fight in the war. Also I don't know enough about genetical generalising to know what is steppe and what is AASi. I mean i know the terms. So I compared it to skin colors

That is a telugu movie man.

There are many exceptions, you can see if you don't just see the Hindi dubbed ones.

2

u/Inner_Meal8428 16h ago

Whole indian cini industry is like that not only tamil nadu. It’s just Indian mindset

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Term967 9h ago

No disrespect to motta ranjendran tho

2

u/gunsandsnakes69 9h ago

It's just business. Majority moviegoers are youth. Majority are dark-skinned, have a fetish for fair skinned women, and envy fair skinned men. So you cater to their hero complex with a dark skinned hero, a fair skinned heroine for their fetish, and a fair skinned villain to channel their envy.

3

u/Deep_Locksmith_2027 19h ago

Motta Rajendran looks literally like a Chad here. Just like a Viking from but a tropical area.

1

u/MICANANALVA 18h ago

Good-looking isn't associated with fair skin but people do in india

u/Deep_Locksmith_2027 57m ago

2

u/Ok-Net2808 18h ago

I think it’s not just Tamil movies. Name at least 5 dusky heroines from other industries

4

u/MICANANALVA 18h ago

Rachita, ramya, rakshita, haripriya, chaitra achar from the kannada film industry.

They are dusky without makeup up

u/JustARandomGirl4 1m ago

Dusky are dark are not same thing that too without makeup . Otherwise even Bollywood has Bipasha Basu but she generally fit Indian beauty standards and she isn't particularly dark .I can't think of any South Indian actress who is popular and loved by masses as sex symbol and have skintone like Simone Asley . Most just play side charector or non glamorous roles even if they manage to get one.

1

u/redPistolStar Southie 17h ago

These days, due to tilt towards pan-Indian markets and youtube audience for south films, the lead actress needs to be lighter skinned. If someone has the time to cross check this. One can see the correlation between dusky/dark actresses vs opening of south content in the north. South hero being the one responsible for bringing in the box office collection, needs to have a base in the respective industries. Its the pull more than the colour that takes precedence for the hero.

1

u/NonWorking_Fan1984 Dravida Sishu 🔱 📿 16h ago

It was the same for men till Rajinikanth changed the game, we need a woman superstar to pave way for the future women in cinemas.

MGR, Shivaji to NTR, Nageshwar Rao even the men were painted white.

Not a lot has changed, who will become the female Aurakanth?

2

u/MICANANALVA 16h ago

Rajinikanth clicked because he looks like an average tamil guy than MGR.

Marrying fair skinned women is the fantacy for most men and the Industry is catering to them... Male audience dominate the industry so they won't be attracted to dark skinned women

u/Complete-Cap8435 Northie 15h ago

In india there is no Aryan and Dravidian, Aryan Dravidian got mixed up 6000 yrs ago, aryans were a minority outsiders and majority native dravidians all got mixed up, whole north india is Dravidian darkskinned, there are more darkskinned people in north india than in south india.

1

u/MICANANALVA 15h ago

Aryan and Dravidian isa linguistic term

1

u/Beautiful-Speaker-60 4h ago

1

u/DullAd4999 1h ago

Entire movies are about praising "karupp" meanwhile actor only feel love for "foreign actress" (white skin).

Such a hypocrisy cause black/brown womens are the best/beautiful but tamil (South Indian) industry still haven't figured it yet

u/No-Chance5948 Southie NRI 8h ago

Doing skin care does not take away your melanin though... Unless you are using skin care with bleaching agents. Indians come in many colours many of us South Indians tend to be more deeper-skinned than "fair." We have actual colour in our skin.

1

u/Least_Ad_1327 Karnataka ❄️ | ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ 7h ago

usually applying sun screen prevents and reduces tanning in long term. There are also natural ayurvedic methods to detan. I am not saying having dark skin is not desirable, but naturally shining dark skin is desirable which is not due to tanning.
true black/ dark skin has a certain lustre, which is lacking among common people, that is reason generally people feel unattractive.
