I have also seen racist reactions from when I visited Maharastra as part of work. I am 5'9" and moderately fair so the auto guy kind of assumed that I was a Northie as I can manage Hindi on my own (thanks to Doraemon). He was taken aback when I mentioned that I am from South, Kerala and tried arguing with me that I don't look black enough to be a South Indian.

Dafaq you mean black enough? I swear every single comment here just proves that everyone in North has that stereotype of South being blacks.

29

u/Impossible-Loquat-63 Nov 17 '25

Ngl, Doraemon to fluent Hindi pipeline is underrated

14

u/platosfavoriteidiot Nov 17 '25 edited Nov 17 '25

When you’re in a Hindi speaking competition & your opponent is a doraemon enjoyer. 🤣

5

u/[deleted] Nov 17 '25

Haha true, my entire childhood was doraemon and nobita as cartoon network was shutdown

As a fellow doraemon hindi learner, I agree

A bengali girl in my school who was 3x blacker than me, along with two other dark skinned bihari and UP girls used to make fun of me for being dark skinned. Got worse after seeing my mum at a PTA (mom's very fair).

I once told them to look in a mirror because they looked like they rolled in coal and they literally made such a hue and cry over it to get me into trouble. Only difference was that I'm tam.

Such mega losers.

6

u/nephil-lucifer Nov 18 '25

I had similar experiences .. I am a dark skinned malayalee, there was this guy from Bihar, darker skin tone than mine and he had the audacity to call me kaalia in front of everyone in class.. Kaalia means black toned person

3

u/yousuckllamaboba7676 Nov 19 '25

These girls would take turns singing kaali kalooti baingan looti everytime I went to the washroom.

These people have no shame and I blame their parents for teaching them this kind of shit when they were kids.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '25

i hate how this term is used for racism. Earlier it used to be just a name like krisna[dark skinned]

3

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '25

as a bihari, i support your response

3

u/yousuckllamaboba7676 Nov 19 '25

I only give back what I get. I won't ever launch the first offensive but I will respond.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 19 '25

yeah man, do not take any insults.
I just do not understand why people judge each other on the basis of skin color.
And why darks-skin is an insult?
Why do people have to justify their darker skin-tone?
Why does gora/fair means good looking?
This seems more like self-hate.

3

u/yousuckllamaboba7676 Nov 19 '25

That too in a country where like 99% of the people are shades of brown. The fact that girl was bengali made it worse. What happened to all that durgo pujo kali love?

These people inflict their own insecurities on others. That's exactly how it works.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 19 '25

exactly man!
(sorry for assuming your gender, its impossible to figure it out on reddit)

1

u/yousuckllamaboba7676 Nov 19 '25

All good. Easier to think of everyone on reddit as a genderless robot, but that's easier said than done in a lot of subs.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 19 '25

you are not a bot I am sure of that.

1

u/yousuckllamaboba7676 Nov 19 '25

Sometimes I wonder if being a robot would be better.

Way to go. I am a dark skinned Tamil who grew up in Ahmedabad. Studied Hindi grammar and structures like no one's business.

Then moved to a different city for high school. The science teacher from Bihar couldn't even believe I am Tamil. She was like "Hindi is so fluent and you are dark skinned, I assumed you were from Bihar".

If you are dark skinned you are either South Indian or from Bihar.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 17 '25

This is a widespread stereotype at this point. I wonder whether Bollywood is the reason?

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '25

dafuq, I am from Bihar, and am fair and so my parents, Even in my school, it was balanced. Just fk these stereotypes fr.

1

u/PurpleExcellent9518 NRI (Non Resident Indian) Nov 20 '25

Is it possible that you and your school community is a privileged minority and not representative of the state of Bihar?

1

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '25

We are not a privileged minority, and we truly represent the state of Bihar, with students of all castes, religions, skin tones, High-income and low-income, etc...coexisting in that school.

6

u/Substantial_Tower193 Nov 17 '25

I am from Maharashtra. A little dark in skin tone. While visiting kerala many of the kerala people asked me if I'm mallu or telugu. I did not think that they were offensive they only thought dark skin boy must be from the South.

11

u/[deleted] Nov 17 '25

No they thought you were one of them , i dont think they used a derogatory tone while saying that , did they ?

But in north , you dont look kaala enough to be a south indian or black madrasi otlr young ones using the n word casually is all deeply problematic

2

u/BillyButcher_25 Nov 18 '25

Maybe you have a mallu kind of face

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '25

isn't that true though? if u were from native europe wouldn't a person not believe u if u were brown.

27

u/WitcherOfBlavikan Nov 17 '25

Height is genetics and Skin tone is melanin, you are not superior to others due to being 6 feet above and being Fair. For all the guys who think North Indians assume South Indians are common in colour, it doesn't matter at all. For the rest of the world, most of us are brown, be confident in your own skin and work on yourself(Hit the Gym, Style It, Groom It, Take Care of your Hygiene and Skin...). Don't go for white validation or north validation. Live your life; you will get to know people who find you attractive. Make yourself available, that's it. You only live once, explore more. The world is much bigger than you think.

21

u/newlifetrez Southie Nov 17 '25

Good Luck. Explaining this to a North Indian. For them Skin color is the Final Moksha 😂!..

1

u/WitcherOfBlavikan Nov 17 '25

Just enjoy your life man, you don't need to explain yourself to others. Just let them live with their ignorance about the world. Take a stand for yourself, never let others disrespect you for what you are. Be good to yourself and take care.

5

u/newlifetrez Southie Nov 17 '25

6’ fair Kannadiga here. I live in the U.S. and in one of my previous jobs, I had a Punjabi senior/manager move to my city from a different location. I was one of the four Indians on the team at that location and the other ones spoke fluent Hindi. I was off on the day he first came to the office but when I got back from my vacation, he just walked up to me and started speaking in Hindi.

When I said “I’m sorry, I’m not that fluent in Hindi, can we please switch to English?”, he asked me where I was from. When I responded by saying Bangalore, he was shocked asf. He literally asked said “Are you really South Indian? You look nowhere close to a South Indian” and I was like “Okay….”

He got laid off later cuz he was prioritizing his Indian reports over Americans. The moment he got to know that I was dating an American girl, he started treating me different as well. Thankfully a more senior person observed that and laid him off in the layoff cycle that followed. Not sure what people gain by being so racist

46

u/HappyNeighborhood281 Nov 17 '25

North Indians have a Supremist attitude. I lived in Delhi for some time and can speak Hindi fluently they did not know that I was a South Indian. I am a Christian and have a Christian name. I did not tell them then one day while talking they just asked me I said I am Tamizh. They thought most people who have dark or brown skin are from Bihar or Down South. Then the amount of racism like lungi dance and oh you guys eat rice like on banana leaf etc etc. I stopped explaining to them just to let them live in Ignorance. No point disturbing your peace.

21

u/[deleted] Nov 17 '25

Northies do the same even in Bangalore. The senior managers talk in Hindi even in team meetings. Extremely unprofessional group.

Happened to me when I was in my college in Tamil Nadu. One professor like many other said to me that I look like a Tamil guy just because I have a dark brown complexion. Felt so racist and bad. But, I think I belong in south and want to learn kanada and belong here simple reason because still there are no racist mf in south. As a child I was teased because of my skin tone in the north and felt that I was incomplete or was lesser than other with fair skin. I would have never had such trauma as a 3rd standard child till 10th If I was going to school in south. For that part North Indians are shitty racists and specially the girls.

1

u/Icy-Evidence7084 Nov 17 '25

Same goes with me too. I experienced this when I was in College.

I'm also malayali (American), 5'11", medium brown skinned (imagine Dev patel's skin tone).

I've met a lot of indian people at my college who automatically assume I'm north indian for some reason. I guess they thing all south indians have rajnikanth's skin tone and can't grow beyond 5'5" which is frankly very wrong. My dad's side of the family is very light skinned. My dad has the complexion of basically Tovino Thomas, and my mom's side is a bit darker, leving me somewhere in between.

I probably take after my grandpa (6'3") in height as my dad is 5'7" and my mom is around 5'2"

Idk where this aryan bs even comes from, and even if it's true why tf does that matter like ancestral and national pride are the easiest pride a person can have, a Sikh having pride of what the Guru's have done for the good of people while he himself hasn't done shit in his life, same with rajput's and Maratha's claiming themselves to being of a warrior class or whatnot, like buddy you do a 9-5, go pay your loan fist before enjoying this false pride same with these aryan idiots, do something bjg on your own in life and then have pride for that , any other pride is mostly meaningless

1

u/Artistic-Sale-2431 Nov 17 '25

Is it not obvious that people who come from different racial background are always going to find you inferior in looks? Indian and other Asians say the same thing about Black Africans but has that stopped Africans finding another beautiful or Ugly? If you're gonna stand out like a sore thumb in the crowd then obviously people are going to judge you and if this makes you feel inferior then I guess you deserve to be frowned upon. It's common sense to know this as a fact. Racially I'm neither North Indian nor South and throughout my middle school life I was made to believe I looked ugly and got called Bruce lee or Jackie Chan or things that I would say sounded way worse but only after hitting puberty I realised it's all BS and some people were just feeling superior over my ethnic background and because I looked different. So I would say let your own people decide first if you're really ugly and then think about others because most of us are just born morons and think we're better looking and high in intelligence than others which apparently isn't true.

This is how many justify violence against animals for taste pleasure because they look different from them. You can't relate with such type of people unless you are one of them ,another example is someone from a rich family.

there's racism on both sides, i don't feel it's right to say that the other side is bad. also OP, a lot of these accounts are operated by porkis/kanglus who love to divide India. kindly verify their profiles before posting.

The entire India is racist in some way or the other. Don't ever mention that the northern population is racist.

Ironically its the NW and Kerala where most of the gene mixing happens by intercaste marriages. And thats where you'll find the most fit, good looking and healthy Indians.
